The dialogues: they are something else, either too cheesy or lame or maybe even sweet:

I'm a huge fan of this author's paranormal books. Especially the ones set in the South. I love how she incorporates the history of the cities. I am not crazy about the romances mostly because they always feel very underdeveloped. However, I don't read these books for the romances, so it doesn't bother me too much. Although, I wish she would stop using the word writhing in the sex scenes. It always makes me think they are in agony not ecstasy. (lol) Overall though this was another great book by this author, and the mystery kept me guessing until the end. So kudos to the author for that!

Great ghostly mystery!
The Summoning by Heather Graham is another great addition to the Krewe adventures! In this one a gal that runs a historic home as a B&B sees a ghost for the first time on the day the Krewe member comes to stay at the house. He is there to investigate missing persons being reported around a certain haunted house section of town. The Krewe members all are gifted. Great mystery! Great ghostly tale too! Romance without slut!

The Summoning is a new addition to the Krewe Hunters series. I was drawn to this story because I love Savannah, and I do believe it's a haunted place. The story is so atmospheric of this incredible city that it's like you're there. The characters are likeable and engaging. The plot is intriguing and I enjoyed the whole thing. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is not a new series for me. I read book one, Phantom Evil, back when it came out in 2011. I haven’t kept up with the series but I have a good chunk of these the books in my collection. This series is just a sweet spot for me. I love how all the elements combine to make not only a romance but add that dash of supernatural to just provide the right punch of awesome storytelling.
The setting is nice too. I think the original series started in New Orleans but I was happy to see it had moved to Savannah for this book. Lots of interesting ghostly things there. The character of Kristi has known all along that her house was haunted but when she actually sees her descendants in the flesh, so to speak, she freaks out. Classic!
Dallas has come to solve the mysterious death of a colleague. He can see dead people too but it is just a bit more apt at it. I liked how the newbie melded with the veteran ghost seer. The ghosts were a hoot too. Loved that aspect.
They brought in Jackson and Angela for this story as well which just reminds us that we are in a Krewe Hunters series. Graham also does a good job of introducing characters for upcoming books in the storyline so when the next book in the series comes out you aren’t surprised by who is staring in it.
This was like reading a book written by an old friend. All the elements I love wrapped up in one book. Reading this makes me want to get more updated on the series. Check this one out. It is a keeper. Highly recommended.

Well, I get it now, how in eight years Heather Graham has managed to publish 27 books in this series - making quality content was not high on her priority list.
I didn't like the writing style, which is the first thing that put me off in this book, but let's look past that.
Graham can't seem to decide if she wants to write a ghost story, a triller or a romance and can't really make a dissent combination of them all. The story is neither scary, nor suspenseful, nor romantic. It goes through the expected check lists and the typical genre tropes but never makes an effort to expand on any one.
The story itself was moving at a snail's pace and even if I could just go with it, which I really can't, had too many plot holes to make it and its conclusion somewhat believable. The final reveal feels like the book's last and very forced attempt to make something of itself, with an ending that has no foreshadowing at all.
The characters were mostly one dimensional, on the verge of being just sketches or, in some cases, caricatures of actual people. Many of them had no real contribution to the story for me. Oh, they were probably meant to make searching for the killer harder when in reality just boosted the word count.
But the book's worst crime for me was that it's just plain boring.

The plot of this book starts with a very typical manner for many of Graham's books: a beautiful young woman inherits a historic Southern mansion that happens to be haunted. Enter a young, handsome law enforcement agent to investigate. Kristi and Dallas, the principals here, must work together with the police and the FBI to link a series of murders and disappearances, before the next victim is found. Amid the beautiful historic scenery and locales, the living killers will be caught, the "ghostly" issues resolved so those willing can "move on," and a new couple has begun a very tender, passionate romance.
What sets this story apart is the injection of humor throughout the book- a ghost from the Civil War era, who happens to be an ancestor of the heroine, keeps up with modern times by watching television, and is particularly fond of Twilight Zone reruns on Netflix: a career medium whose dramatic claims are disputed by the ghosts themselves, in comments to those who can actually see them.
I thought this novel was very exciting and had a hard time putting it down, right up until the end, which I thought fell a little flat. The chase was exciting, but the resolution seemed almost like an afterthought, with very little action and too much summation to keep the momentum going. This is the main reason for my rating of three stars. Still, this story was interesting and a good addition to the Krewe of Hunters series, which I would recommend to anyone interested in paranormal romance and mystery stories.

This the first Heather Graham book I’ve read and it was quite enjoyable. Her writing is quite easy and not a struggle; love how she put history of Savannah in it and I love a book with a bit of a history lesson in it. The love between Dallas and Kristi was noticeable as it grew and I love that certain scenes were not explicit. I love romance tied into books, but I don’t like it all fully detailed.
As of the culprit, I had many on my list-
Shelley was any easy guess
Mr. Knox was a possible to me because he just kept getting more agitated for no reason-and realizing that their daughter was adopted only proved my thoughts of him.
His wife was a surprise to me. Wasn’t expecting it.
All in all, a great read! I plan on following this author and reading more of what she has to give! 🐾

I love the "Krewe" series. And, Heather Graham always does a fantastic job with her historical research which adds so much flavor to each of the books. This book was no exception. Her descriptions of Savannah, the various locations used in the story line, the people and, of course, the history of the area really supported the story. Actually, I thought it became a character in the story itself. I found Kristi, the heroine, refreshing and her reactions to her newfound "abilities" comical and authentic. Dallas, our hero, was the perfect relatively new "Krewe" member. Kristi's spirit ancestors were very endearing. Always wonderful to visit with Angela and Jackson Crow again. Another fun "Krewe" read. ;)

2.5- These books are entertaining and I like that they take place in different historical cities. They always make me want to visit the setting. I picked this one because I was visiting Savannah.

I was a fan of Heather Graham many years ago, back when the Krewe series first started and I enjoy her writing style, just took a break from her because I didn't care for the quick fix romance that is the romantic suspense genre. But recently I was offered an ARC of her new book, and having read it, I decided to go back to this series again. A lot of the reviews for her books complain that they are formulaic - well, yeah. I mean, what do you expect of the romantic suspense genre and 27 books and counting in a series? But does that make her a bad author or this a bad book? No, I don't think it does. SO MANY of the hyped up best sellers are just re-tellings of previously popular books - isn't that what a long series is as well?
AS for this book, I enjoyed it. I can't promise I'll remember details a year from now, but it was an enjoyable way to pass the time and take a break. IT worked really well for me right now, even with the silly romance. (I'm just not a fan of romance themed books or movies.)
So, if you are looking for a nice story, a little mystery or suspense and just want to relax with a book, I think this is a great series for that. I can't say I ever felt like "I can't put this down!!!" but that's ok.

The Summoning was another enjoyable supernatural read. While I was surprised at first to find that the author’s books were located in the romance section at the bookstore, I can also see why. There’s plenty of that icky girl stuff there. Fortunately for me, all I had to do was skim through those mushy parts and they had absolutely nothing to do with the plot. Since it’s been a while ago that I last read one of her stories, I initially suffered through a love scene or two before I realized they were for the girls and had no relevant info toward the plot.
The writing was excellent with solid third-person limited and past-tense writing. There were a few slips with head-hopping, but overall, it wasn’t annoying.
The only other issue I had was that there were a few places where pretty much nothing happened. The story just seemed to crawl with nothing significant going on for long stretches. Then a few little things would happen, then it would bog down again. In a way, it was okay for the creep factor, but at the same time, the story just seemed to plod along before getting to the point.
All in all, I enjoyed it despite the flaws. Since the Krewe agent Dallas got together with the damsel, I guess he’s out of the picture now for future installments. Maybe not, but we’ll see.

I've been looking for some paranormal books to read lately and I have seen a number of books by this author. I realize she writes romance and I don't always enjoy traditional romance, but thought I'd give this one a go.
I got halfway in and gave up.
The two main characters are not even characters. They're caricatures - nothing but a very basic idea of what the owner of a bed and breakfast would be like and what an FBI agent would be like, sans anything resembling a personality. And of course they're both perfect at everything they do. And of course they're both perfect looking. And of course they have perfect bodies. And this should be enough to make their love affair exciting and appealing, right? Nah. Perfect people are boring and their love affair was about as exciting as eating a bread sandwich.
There are some ghosts in the book. They mostly give history lessons and talk about things they've seen on TV. Yet, somehow the female lead runs screaming from them the first time she sees them. Why? The ghosts were nearly as boring as she. She's attracted to boring men and scared of boring ghosts. I could not relate to this character.
There was something about a mystery in there, but it mostly consisted of characters wondering over and over, "How could someone die from falling off a curb?" and "Why would anyone want to kill a man who is already dying?" And then it stagnated.
I will say this. Slavery is wrong. The way the United States treated Native Americans was often wrong. Various characters in the book will repeat these things and preach about them over and over and over... and over... and over... though, none of this has any real baring on the thin plot.

I got halfway in and gave up.
The two main characters are not even characters. They're caricatures - nothing but a very basic idea of what the owner of a bed and breakfast would be like and what an FBI agent would be like, sans anything resembling a personality. And of course they're both perfect at everything they do. And of course they're both perfect looking. And of course they have perfect bodies. And this should be enough to make their love affair exciting and appealing, right? Nah. Perfect people are boring and their love affair was about as exciting as eating a bread sandwich.
There are some ghosts in the book. They mostly give history lessons and talk about things they've seen on TV. Yet, somehow the female lead runs screaming from them the first time she sees them. Why? The ghosts were nearly as boring as she. She's attracted to boring men and scared of boring ghosts. I could not relate to this character.
There was something about a mystery in there, but it mostly consisted of characters wondering over and over, "How could someone die from falling off a curb?" and "Why would anyone want to kill a man who is already dying?" And then it stagnated.
I will say this. Slavery is wrong. The way the United States treated Native Americans was often wrong. Various characters in the book will repeat these things and preach about them over and over and over... and over... and over... though, none of this has any real baring on the thin plot.

Heather Graham is one of my all time favorite romance authors to read , as soon as I read my very first book of the Krewe Of Hunters I was hooked , in fact I'm slowly getting them to add to my collection of books and as soon as I saw this on Edelweiss+ I knew I had to try and see if I could request it to read, these books are my go to romance , they always seem to bring me out of my bad day and when ever I have a bad reading day these are the books I go to. Their so easy to get lost in and the way she brings her characters to life and the places is amazing. What else could you want in a romance : ghost, romance, and mystery . And characters that become your all new favorites ones, love how Kristi and Dallas meet and how well their story flows with the rest of the story , so much so that it doesn't take any thing away from it, with that said I want to thank Edelweiss for letting me read and review it exchange for my honest opinion.

The Summoning by Heather Graham was an enjoyable quick read. Graham has a formula that works for her and this is another book. Special power agent comes in meets special civilian there is some bad guys and they come together to solve the mystery before one of them dies. I am not criticizing by any means. Sometimes you need to pick up a book by an author you like and get what you expect. That is this book. I read it and enjoyed it. I will say it took me a second to figure who the bad guy was but I got there.
3.5 stars rounded to 4 for being exactly what I needed and expected.

I had mixed feeling about this book but overall decided that I liked it, thus 3 stars.
I love how she incorporate a lot of history and setting in this book. I really felt like I was in Savvana and was immersed in the town. I thought the characters were developed alright, they were a little under-developed and one-dimensional, some were well developed though. Christy and Dallas's relationship wasn't really developed but I think that's okay, there was a lot more to the story. I love the ghost aspect and I think it is a cool way to bring in paranormal that isn't over done. I also liked the secret government knowings of these powers which was super cool and put an interesting spin on things.
So yeah, cool historical family content, cool paranormal stuff and great characters for the most part.

The Summoning by Heather Graham is the 27th book in the Krewe of Hunters series, and another great addition. I have read a few books in this series, but each book can be a stand alone. I enjoy this series about ghosts haunting, The Krewe travels to different places to investigate to either help or get rid of ghosts. I enjoy this book because you learn about new places and their history, along with spooky ghosts. I strongly recommend this book and series, for anyone who enjoys a good ghost story.

Kristi has inherited an old house in Savannah. The house is supposedly haunted. Strange things have been happening near the house, 2 people have disappeared and 2 others have died. Are they connected?
This is a book in the Krewe Of Hunters series. It does a good job of capturing the atmosphere of Savannah. There is also a good cast of likable characters, some not of this world. Thank you to net galley for an advancedreaders copy.

First time reading a book by Heather and I really enjoyed it.
The suspense and not knowing who done it til the end is what I love about about Thriller/Mystery books.

It was a good story. The writing was not so great. The author needs to seriously work on her development of relationships. It was completely and totally unbelievable. A tad on the Nancy Drew side of writing.

This is another terrific book in Heathr Graham's Krewe of Hunter series! It's suspenseful, with a few unexpected twists and turns, and some fascinatinghistory. I really liked the hero and heroine too.

Thank God it was shorter than the usual Krewe books, because I couldn't wait to see who the killer was and man I was off by a mile! The seances were just beyond eye rolling and Ms. Shelley was annoying. Loved 💕 the ending I really think it was the best part. Really enjoyed the history lesson weaved through out the story (why can't they teach it like that in school 😉)

Recommendation: Yes, pick it up for a mystery involving paranormal elements, historical flair and the romantic side of the plot.
The Summoning is the twenty seventh book in the longest series, Krewe of Hunters, by Heather Graham and published in May of 2019. The primary plot is centered around Kristi Stewart - owner of the McLane House Bed-and-Breakfast - and Dallas Wicker - one of the Krewe of Hunters, FBI, under Adam Harrison.
The plot is set in Savannah, Georgia and forms the first book in her next trilogy in the series. Starting from her 9th book, The Night is Watching, Heather has been releasing the Krewe of Hunters books in the form of trilogies with characters crossing over in those trilogies, while adding new characters to the series.
Her First trilogy is made of the ninth book The Night is Watching; the tenth book The Night is Alive; the 11th book The Night is Forever. Second trilogy is made of the 12th book The Cursed, 13th book the Hexed and 14th book The Betrayed. Third Trilogy has the 15th book The Silenced, 16th book The Forgotten and the 17th book The Hidden. Fourth Trilogy has the plots set on Celtic American Cruise-Line ships - 18th book Haunted Destiny on Destiny, 19th book Deadly Fate on Fate and 20th book Darkest Journey on Journey. The first group is led by Jackson Crow, who is also the Supervising Field Director of the Krewe, and called as the original Krewe of Hunters; the second group is led by Texas Ranger Logan Raintree and called as the Texas Krewe; the third group is Yankee Krewe, based in NYC, overseen by Jackson Crow. A possibility of a fourth group in Miami, FL is touched upon in the 17th book The Hidden.

I remember she used a similar introduction to the lead characters in another book of hers in this series. She made Maureen "Mo" Deauville and Aiden Mahoney in a similar situation in the 14th book The Betrayed (https://inspirethoughts.livejournal.c...). Heather rarely repeats her scenes., so it came as a surprise to me.
I see a pattern to Heather Graham's stories in the Harrison Investigations and Krewe of Hunters series, apart from the presence of ghosts and spirits. Usually the stories revolve around historical inferences, somehow connecting the past to the present either by way of characters or incidents and they involve hidden tunnels be it in cemetery or old houses or mortuaries or secret passages or vaults. Always has one new pair of Krewe of Hunters or Harrison Investigations investigators.
Heather Graham again has the list of cast and characters of her plot in the beginning of the book, which she has been doing from past few books. The characters are as usual fun and loving even though there is terror on every corner of the page.
I marvel at how Heather brings the history and paranormal elements together with a seamless string that makes it a phenomenal plot. She gives the readers a view into the past through artifacts, tours, researches and just plain history. This time she adds another element - seances and haunted inns.
Again it was hard to guess who the actual criminals were. But the motive I had guessed around Chapter 5. Even then connecting the dots from the motive to the criminals it was a maze that I got lost eventually until Heather revealed it for the readers. Perfectly penned except for one part that she doesn’t explain away why one character was killed, motive was shown, but not very clear.
As always other members of the Krewe and the local law enforcement aid in the case. This time Dallas and Kristi are aided by - supervising field director Jackson Crow, his wife Angela Hawkins also a Krewe agent, Joseph "Joe" Dunhill the detective with the Savannah police and Victoria "Vicki" Preston whom we had met in the 21st book Dying Breath (https://inspirethoughts.livejournal.c...). Apparently Vicki has graduated from the Academy now and full-time Krewe member although she was a historian when we met her first. Her husband Griffin Pryce and his work definitely rubbed off on her.
Readers are provided with pages at the end where it gives reader an opportunity to either join a book club and win books, or buy a book and get a few free. Again there are fewer grammatical or character or location errors in this book. However, a thorough editing is definitely needed. I am surprised that Heather's editing or proof reading group missed those details.
A very good mingle of murder and mystery; past and present; old wars and new demons; and above all romance and love. Although for most part a successful thriller in the series of books under Krewe of Hunters by Heather Graham that is an easy ready and still enjoyable.

However, until that moment Dallas never talks to Kristi about those two characters part of his investigation of Ian Murphy and Lachlan Plan, of which Kristi was aware of it as well. A mis-entry by the author? Or was a scene deleted during the proof reading and thus the disconnect?
f. Heather Graham again has a confusion with regards to position for Jackson Crow. On Pg. 30 she has him as "supervising field director" for the Krewe and On Pg. 296, she gives him the "acting field director" title. Which one is he? I thought a few books ago she had clarified it clearly but again the confusion reigns.

e. On Pg. 151, Heather suddenly pops up the details about Simon Drake and Eliza Malone, the missing people part of Dallas's investigation, during a conversation between Kristi and Dallas. However, until that moment Dallas never talks to Kristi about those two characters part of his investigation of Ian Murphy and Lachlan Plan, of which Kristi was aware of it as well. A mis-entry by the author? Or was a scene deleted during the proof reading and thus the disconnect?
f. Heather Graham again has a confusion with regards to position for Jackson Crow. On Pg. 30 she has him as "supervising field director" for the Krewe and On Pg. 296, she gives him the "acting field director" title. Which one is he? I thought a few books ago she had clarified it clearly but again the confusion reigns.
g. On Pg. 259, Line 3 from bottom, shouldn’t it be "..That's wonderful…"
h. On Pg. 309, Line 7, Janet Knox's last name is mis-quoted as "Murray".
i. On Pg. 342, Line 5, shouldn’t it be "…now that Trinity…"
