Supported by the latest neuroscience, this book gives you hands-on advice on how to enhance your own creativity. You will find it an inspiring combination of theory, techniques, anecdotes and exercises to help you access better ideas and bigger breakthroughs.
People who are good at having ideas are good at seeing connections. Could teaching people to see connections be a way to help them be more creative?
Over the years, there’s a need for a book on creativity that complements the teaching of the creative process and tools and gives you a practical approach to how to enhance your innate ability to think creatively. This book as an opportunity to dispel the myth that creative talent is something possessed by a gifted minority. This is the opportunity to pass on ‘the secret’ of highly creative people to a much wider audience. It’s a chance to give others the knowledge, techniques, and training they need to enhance their own innate creativity and lead the way to fun, fulfillment, invention, innovation, and change.
It’s a unique book that combines a very hands on and practical approach with a solid scholarly foundation.
This book gives you: • Insights into how highly creative people think • The latest findings in neuroscience on connection making • Training to help you make connections others don’t • A boot camp with 21 creativity exercises
While doing The walk exercise, suddenly, somehow I made from the Føtex supermarket a castle. In a million years I wouldn’t say that I would imagine that, even thought it was a simple connection of seeing kind of architecture of a like tower part of building and grey colour which you could see in some of the castles. This book really helps to completely open your mind in a new way and see connections everywhere. The magic formula “How might I…” is long time known “Can Do” approach or how problem solvers think. Everyone can use it in everyday life and it completely shifts how we think about things and mainly what we can do about it. I love how this books is hands on experience and walks you through creative process of many people as in the book are many examples. Main point of this book is to get you out of the book and train your ability to make connection, which is another great thing about this book. It offers quite a few tools and it has a Boot Camp for 21 days.
Handy book that focuses on helping you to improve at the skill of making connections between different things, and how the ability to make connections plays a central and trainable role in creativity. The back half of the book is a series of 21 activities for building this skill.
This book covers a clear statement, with proof and 21 exercises to improve your creativity. It's written in clear language, a quick read and gloriously structured.
Only having done half of the exercises I already feel a shift in my creative thinking.
One main takeaway point: creativity is the ability to make connections. Not much depth and mostly reiterates the same message, but the book contains a lot of 'creative' images and a fun section of exercises to train your mind to make new connections.
Of zoals Steve Jobs ooit zei “Creativity is just connecting things”.
A fascinating look at creative thinking, with practical exercises included. As someone who read and applied the ideas of Edward de Bono to my teaching, I am thrilled with this addition to the conversation on creative thinking and how to enhance it. Now I want to purchase the Creative Thinker's Exercise Book!
This is a beautifully presented book with images and examples. It is part text setting the argument that creativity is around learning to make connections and part a series of exercises to grow this skill set. I will use these exercises in the work I do so it’s a good resource book to keep on my shelf. I also totally get the connections/creativity thing.
Great but quite short summary of how to increase your creative effectiveness by making connections.
The back third of the book is creative exercises and tools to help you practice, which could also be leveraged in a teaching environment or as brainstorm warm ups.
I enjoyed this, just would have loved a bit more depth behind the topic.
This book is so good for creatives in any field, I really recommend it. I find myself using a lot of creativity exercizes from it in my brainstorming process. ❤️
The Secret Of The Highly Creative Thinker will show you just how. This is by far one of my favourite creative books of the year. It's simple. It's powerful. And, it's loaded with insights to ignite your creative thinking.
Creative thinking has become less of a luxury and more of a necessity.
Whatever the industry, innovative ideas are considered the glue that will hold the brand together and ensure that it weathers the storm against competition. Management guru Peter Drucker stated that marketing and innovation were essential to an organization's success --everything was essentially filler. In hindsight, creative thinking is the lifeblood of both marketing and innovation. Workers now need to think flexibly and deliver solutions outside of the box.
Vaatamine on passiivne, nägemine aktiivne tegevus. :)
I have never considered myself to be creative. I am an accountant, I'm not artistic, I can't draw. I even give up on my Sudoku game if the answer isn't obvious. Yet, I can train my brain to see connections-the heart of creative thinking. The Secret of the Highly Creative Thinker isn't just a "science of" book, it is a "how to" manual. It walks you through the step by step of strengthening your brain's natural creative muscle with a bootcamp of 21 different exercises and inspiration on every page. It was very entertaining to read and I can feel my brain already stretching.
This book should be in every classroom and boardroom- and it is beautiful enough to leave on your coffee table.
