The Dark Mage has every advantage… except her.Riley Trident narrowly escaped New Perth after a vicious battle with Rendal, but now she has an even bigger problem.
Rendal holds Mason captive on a ship headed for the kingdom of Sidnie. To force her allegiance, there’s nothing he won’t do to the most important person in her life.
If he can’t have her allegiance? Then he’ll punish her.
Everyone around Riley implores her to refine her magical powers. Without them, she’s no match for Rendal. Yet without her, Mason’s days are numbered and Sidnie falls.
Will Riley harness her powers in time to save them, or will her next battle with Rendal be their last?
Well, book two lived up to the promise of the first book in this series, and I couldn't stop reading it - half the time with mouth agape, and unable to believe just how much sheer nastiness one man can show!
I was very surprised at Worth's solution to Riley's power blockage, and was a little disappointed that it was so simple a solution, in some ways, but I'm also now very anxious to see whether the freeing of her powers will actually help her defeat Rendal, giving just how slippery a character he is!
All-in-all, this is quite different from the other series set in the age of magic, so I'm glad to see that, even though the tech used is very similar, that there have been new uses made of it.
So, now that I've finished book two, I checked my reading list, hoping to go on to book three of this series, but it seems I'll be going back to the Hidden Magic series, and will be reading book three: Shades of Glory!
I keep going from one series to the next, which SHOULD be confusing for me but, because of their settings, I'm finding it easy enough to hop from one to the other - but, then, when they are all co-authored by Michael Anderle, I guess that helps with continuity a lot!
You would think that after so many different authors working in the same universe that they would run over each other and the stories would be the same or close to it. Lucky for me there is just as much mundane action as magic in this series. The secondary characters are just as appealing as the protagonist. Makes for a great with and series.
Riley is chasing after the evil Mage Rendal hoping to free Mason and save New Perth. However her lack of control over her magic leaves her coming up short. I like the action, humor, and possible romance. Riley is a compelling character. Will she learn enough control of her magic to save the ones she loves? I look forward to the next book.
The characters are becoming more and more defined along with the story. I am enjoying all the new friends being added. A the author knows how and when to to end the book to make sure you want to read the next in the series. That is a talent because I have read my share of series books I gave up on. Great read and going for #3.
Holy moly! I really like this book and series. The character banter and snark is hilariously entertaining and at times inappropriate, but funny. I think Riley and Kris came from the same mold! Poor William doesn’t have a chance! The dark Mage progresses his plans to take over Riley & Sidnie while Riley is on an interesting quest to learn magic. Great story!
This universe is a lot of fun and there is always the potential to have great characters to go with the story. That is the case for this series. These characters are interesting and make you want to find out what they will get into next and how they will get out as well. I recommend this book and series.
OMG, so gotta love to hate William. He so needs a kick in the a$$, although, for all his stirring and stupid comments, he really does care for his friends. And then you have Riley, who could be the saviour that everyone needs if only she starts to believe in herself and magic. Bring on book 3!
The team has split up to use their skills where they were most needed. As the story continues in new and exciting ways the characters grow without changing their basic personality. All of this is leading to the confrontation we all want between Riley and Rendell. I'm really excited to see what happens next. Please read the author's notes and leave your own review. Enjoy!
Things take a turn in this book with Riley and William going in opposite directions.Trying to find their way and beat Rendell(what a jerk).Throw in some pirates and you have a really good story.Downloading the next one now
Well written story continues to chronicle Riley's growth, both as a person and a mage. Challenges abound, but they help her become a stronger person. I'm loving her and all of her friends.
Randell has added a collection of pirates and their ships to his magical bracelets. he is sure now that he can get Riley to come after Mason. and he will finally have her power. funny how things work out
