Excellent story! River has developed her newspaper and detective skills. Magic still abounds and the news of it is spreading. River gets romance ,Jordan starts a new life and Zack is discovered/uncovered. Many things are revealed and a friend of Jordan's is murdered. The killer is caught but the story leading up to the ending is well written!
This might not be the worst book I've ever read, but it is definitely in the running. I really hope I received it through a free promotion; I hate to think I spent actual money. The story was trite. The characters had no character (and clearly no intelligence). The ending was obvious. It wasn't a particularly good paranormal, and it wasn't a particularly good cozy mystery. Also, it was dreadfully poorly proofed, which I thoroughly despise. Is it really that difficult to go through a book and ensure that all the words are correct and in the right order?
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Jordan moved to town after buying the restaurant with a friend. River and her friends were at a party when Jordan's friend and partner dropped dead from a poisoned cookie. Rivers friend is arrested and she starts investigating with her friends. River and Jordan grow a little closer as the mystery takes surprising turns. Lots of fun with the girls and good mystery to read.
Wow! Lots of twists and turns and bad guys. Just kind of hard to determine who they all were. The good guys, well they all live in the same house and they're witches except for a few of them. Really good.
Cute little cozy mystery that might have gotten 4 stars except there were so many errors. Typos, misspellings, and even some continuity issues. Annoying. Otherwise, a cozy mystery with some light witching.
Despite the negative reviews I did enjoy this book. I had my suspicions as to who was the murderer, but was surprised by the ending. This book would have been better if a bit longer, and also had a final edit because of the typos. Enjoy that the books are easy quick reads with a fun bit of magic added. *Note: I received a free copy of this book; however, all opinions are my own.
A much better book. Better paced, great ending even if part of the solution was obvious from the beginning. The characters too have gotten into the groove and have developed into believable parts of the story. Jordan has purchased the coffee shop and together with his friend are going to open a dessert bar. The biggest surprise is that she knows the partners wife. Her own life has slipped a couple of notches with the employment of Zac she has been more or less demoted into a junior role. At home everyone is busy with their landlady's annual party. But the night of the party ends in disaster with the death of Jordan's partner. A death caused by black magic in a cookie which leads to the arrest of their favourite baker. The residents of the house refuse to believe that she is guilty and try to trace the spell to where it originated. Can they find it? Who bought it? How can they prove it? What will happen to her job at the paper now?
Cute story, but seriously needs to be edited. Lots of typos and misused words that spellcheck won't catch. Even a read through would catch many of them. Also there are details that are mixed up from one chapter to another. The author does a huge disservice to the work by not having it edited. Even a beta reader or two may help with some of the more annoying problems.
I am not really into young adult books anymore. But, because I have a fascination with witches and mystery, this book caught my attention. N.M Howell is incredibly fun and talented, I could not put the book down at any time and the mystery kept wanting me to read more! I cannot wait to finish the trilogy. Anyone looking for a fun mystery, I highly recommend this.book!!
If you like a good wholesome mystery you wil like this book. Characters are believable and interesting. It was a quick read and keep me interested. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This book, like the first, sort of rambles around until it suddenly settles on a solution--one in this case that has been painfully obvious from the beginning. There's not much mystery and little investigation. This is not a series I'm planning to follow.
Memorable characters, a lovely world and a great plot. What more could you ask for. Well, I for one want more stories in this series! Can't wait for the book.
I love the characters. The storyline is great. It could use some good editing. There were occasions where character names were mixed up which took a moment to make sense of.
