Daniel "Dan" Kennedy (Ochankugahe) was born on January 1877 in the Cypress Hills, SK. He was the Assiniboine Chief, from the Carry the Kettle Reserve, located between Sintaluta and Montmarte, SK. His name translated into English, means "Pathmaker".
Educated first at the school in the Qu'Appelle Valley, at Lebret, conducted by Father Hugonard, a famous Indian Missionary. Here he was given the name Dan Kennedy. In 1893 he completed his education at St. Boniface College in Winnipeg.
This book was written in 1972 and is an insight into how settlers and First Nations cultures experienced the colonization of western Canada. The first hand recollections of Dan Kennedy provide needed clarity into how the Assiniboine people lived prior to contact with Europeans.
