Second Heat

Rate this book
When omega wolves must prove themselves in blood.

Nico is the young, unwanted omega son of a pair of alpha wolves. Like all other omegas, he was thrown into the fighting pit to prove himself and find an alpha mate. Too bad it hasn’t worked out like that. Nico’s been in the pit for longer than he’d care to remember. Life’s nothing but a struggle for survival, until a new locker room doctor shows up.

Mick is an older alpha werewolf, talented in fixing what ails the body and the heart. On assignment from his pack alpha, Deacon, he’s been sent to spy and cause subterfuge within the omega fighting circuit. A rare wolf doctor, Mick is quickly hired by the pit with clear instructions: do only enough to keep them alive.

But when Mick’s eye is caught by a ferocious, gorgeous omega, he’ll do whatever it takes to save him. Even if it means revealing what he’s really there for. Omega Bait: Second Heat is a gay wolf shifter mpreg romance novel intended for adults only.

The little blip on the radar with this book is that it ends on a cliffhanger and that fact that it ends on a cliffhanger is not actually the problem, it is the fact that the cliffhanger seems to be a threat to the life Mick and Nico have established that really gets to me. I can't take any more hits with these two, they deserve a nice sugary-sweet life and a damn big happily ever after.

I really liked this book. So far, this series has delivered. I was a little cautious prior to starting this book because I read another book by the author and it wasn't great and I was wondering if this would be worth my time when I came across my review for the first book in the series which I ended with the feeling of not-being-able-to-wait-to-read-the-next-one and I was like I owe my enthusiastic past self to give this one a try and I'm so so glad I did because this book had everything that made the first one a hit for me despite the blip which I am going to ignore till I have the next book in my hands.

Mick and Nico are amazing together. They had such great chemistry and despite the fact that they couldn't have met under worse circumstances there was something so innocent about their relationship, something so earnest that you know they are going to make it.

I loved Nico, the fact that his spirit wasn't crushed despite the fact that he never had an easy life, is a testament to his superhuman strength. He is such an amazing character and his humour was so good that he had me chuckling along with him. Nico and Mick's banter meant the world to me though, the heat they shared beneath the sheets certainly didn't hurt.

Mick is an amazing person who is still waiting to find his mate and hasn't given up even though he is in his fifties and I loved his spirit. Also, I know I have mentioned this but their banter was so good. I am a sucker for good banter and Mick's attempts at flirting and his dad jokes made my day.

This book has quite a dreary setting but Mick & Nico's relationship burned so brightly that it made everything better for me.

This was an amazing sequel to what is already shaping up to be an amazing series.

Nico is an omega wolf who’s been fighting in the bait pits longer than he cares to remember. As the son of two alphas he was quickly discarded because he was of no use to his parents. He’s had to fight for survival all his life. He only dreamt of life outside the pits. He never thought having an mare who loves him and pups of his own were ever a possibility.

Mick is a beta wolf who’s the doctor in his pack. When his nephew and pack Alpha, Deacon, ask him to go undercover at one of the worst bait pits in existence he couldn’t refuse. As a doctor he knew he could never let cruelty like these pits continue if he could do something about it. Although Deacon joked with him saying he may have someone special, Mick had no idea how true that would be. As an older wolf he longs for a family of his own. He almost gave up hope.

Nico and Mick quickly catch the eye of one another. Nico knows that Mick is different than all the other doctors he’s seen in the pits. Mick actually takes the time to get to know his patients and genuinely cares for their well being. Nico feels safe with Mick and that’s something he’s never felt ever in his life.

This is the second book in the series and I loved it just as much as the first. These are great characters being brought to life and I enjoy getting to know them.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second book in the Omega Bait series. In this book, Mick is the uncle of the alpha Deacon and a doctor. When Deacon asks Mick to go undercover at a bait pit to gather evidence so they can shut it down, Mick agrees. The omegas are held against their will and forced to fight each other for the alpha's entertainment. Mick goes undercover as the new doctor and he meets Nico, an omega. Mick is a beta and the other alphas don't see him as a threat. When Nico comes in for an injury, Mick wants to protect him and is very attracted to the younger man. Nico sees Mick and he flirts with him and thinks they could have some fun. Mick and Nico grow closer and Mick wants to save him and take him home with him, but knows he can't tell him the real reason he is there. When Mick calls Deacon for help, they are unable to get there because they are at another bait pit closing it down, leaving Mick to figure out what to do. I loved this series. I really loved Mick. i thought he was a really good guy and he really cared about Nico. This book had a little bit of everything, there was danger and drama and a lot of heat between Mick and Nico. Another good one.

decent story, just plot inconsistencies from first book

book is good for what it is, and the continuation of the omega pits world is good to build on. haven’t seen it in other omega verse or shifter books

only real glaring issue is Mick’s secondary gender. in the first book, he is an omega. that is how he detected logan’s first pregnancy and was a whole plot point. in this book, he is described as an alpha on the book blurb, and a beta within the book itself

the only way I could see to reconcile was if the alpha mention on the cover was a mistake, and he’s taking blockers that allow him to pass for a beta as part of his cover identity. and then as an omega I guess it’s possible for omegas to impregnate other omegas in this universe. don’t know but anyways that was the most glaring inconsistency, though I’m not sure how much it ultimately matters. it doesn’t really ruin anything reading after the first book, and if you only read this one, it doesn’t diminish the plot at all

in the tradition of southern bait pits, that once upon a time pitted slaves, indentured servants, and beasts of prey against each other, these stories discuss a movement to dismantle a tradition of pitting omegas against each other.

what a world. either they die in the pits, they get auctioned to supply a pack with offspring, or some other hideous result.

Doc P - Mick - is the uncle of the current Calibury pack alpha - and he agrees to go under cover in one of the pits where they are seeking a doctor for the fighters.

Mick manages to raise some cain with the omega fighters when his alpha nephew thinks they will not arrive in time to stop the fight that is set as a death match for the omega Mick is smitten with.

a duel of wits, and a fight to change long help traditions - a different kind of civil war

Beta Mick is sent to infiltrate Grahams’ Paw N Pride Omega Baiting Pit and meets Nico.
Beta Mick Patterson is the pack doctor and when Pack Alpha Deacon asks him to infiltrate Grahams’ Paw N Pride Omega Baiting Pit with the eventual intention to close it down and rescue the omegas forced to fight there. Reluctantly agrees but not looking forward to what he will witness especially when Deacon mentions that it is much worst than the local baiting pit they had already closed down. As soon as he arrives he witnesses a fight and the winner is his first patient but when he gets close to Nico the omega who won the fight he recognizes the pull he feels towards him. The inhumane way the omegas are treated appalls Mick but he must keep his head down until the attack can be executed. A Shifter MM MPreg romance to relax and enjoy.

This is the second book of the Omega bait series.
Mick is a doctor in the Calibury pack, he is also the uncle of the Alfa pack leader.
The Calibury pack are slowly dismantling the bait pits and liberating the omegas from this cruel existence of omega baiting.
Mick is asked to infiltrate a particularly vicious pack and to gather information for the Calibury pack to attack.
Once there Mick is disgusted by the treatment towards the omegas and is spurned on to dismantle this particularly nasty pack.
Nico is newly purchased into the Graham Paw N Pride, along with several others and is resigned to his fate, never having known any different.
When Nico s injured and is sent to the doctor there is an immediate awareness between them.
Mick is more determined than ever to see, not only ‘his’ omega free but the others too.

A strange ending but I’m guessing it leads us into book three.

Mick was lonely and dreamed of finding an omega to start a family with when he accepted a mission from his nephew and alpha of his pack, Deacon. Nico and Lionel were two omegas just trying to survive in the fighting pits and hoping they wouldn't have to kill each other. Mick and Nico hit it off right away even though Mick was awkward and shy, Nico more than made up for it with his outrageous flirting. Things were going well until Xil, the alpha in charge of the fighting pits discovered Nico's pregnancy. Mick realized his time was up if he was gonna get Nico out of there alive with their pup. Deacon had impeccable timing for showing up when he did. I laughed at all the things Lionel and Nico came up with so that Nico and Mick could communicate and have alone time.

I’m a big fan of Preston Walker’s m/m shifter romance stories and this is book 2 of the Omega Bait and I absolutely loved it. Omega’s get thrown into fighting pits to fight each other to death the winner usually gets picked by an alpha but not Nico no he’s never been picked by an alpha to be his mate not until Mick the new alpha doctor who gets sent to the pits just to keep the omegas barely alive just enough for them to fight. Mick is an older alpha werewolf who has been sent to spy on the pits by his alpha, he meets and heals Nico and from there a great love story begins but there is danger ahead for both of these men. I loved this story and I can’t wait to see what Preston brings out next, a fantastic story a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Let me start by saying 'omega bait pits' It is so heartbreaking to read about what happens to omegas and what the Horrible things the Alphas do to the omegas. The Calibury pack is all about shutting the bait pits down. They believe in equality. Mick's job is to infiltrate the bait pit , he is perfect for the job. He is a beta and a doctor. Once there he meets Nico, an omega fighter who has only know this life, and he knew he would die in the pits. Not if Mick can help it. Their relationship is the bright part of this book and the ending is fantastic. A rebellion is brewing and it is all or nothing.

A story of one Beta trying to save his Omega from a fighting pit. The writer is very descriptive in his details of the surroundings, secondary characters and injuries. You can very easily immerse yourself in the story. My only small wish (would have give 4 1/2 stars but Amazon doesn't allow) is that the actual action of saving the omegas and closing the pit/taking on the alpha was done a little quicker and that time was spent on Nic (the omega) and Mick (the beta) life afterwards. Their HEA seemed a bit rushed.

This is a beautiful, emotional, angsty a/b/o story. This second book in the Omega Bait series is grittier and sadder than the first one with the Omegas in the pit treated as little more than animals. The reader can't help but feel for Nico who has lived in the pit for years with little hope of anything better. I absolutely loved Mick and how caring and dedicated he was. The connection between he and Nico was hot and sweet, and I really enjoyed seeing them reach for their HEA.

This was the second book in the series of Omega Bait Camps and this one definitely had more action in it than the first. Deacon's uncle Mick is sent to a bait camp as the doctor to do some recon so that their pack can infiltrate. While he's there he meets his mate, an omega who's scheduled to a death match.

This kept me pretty entertained. I was anxious to see how it would end, and it was worth the read. A fun, quick story that ended with a bit of a cliffhanger... we'll have to see.

Nico an omega that belongs to the pits. Where they force omega to fight for the fun of the alphas.
Mick a Dr sent in to spy on the pits so the pack can take it down. They believe the pit fighting is inhumane and needs to be stoped.
This is the story of Mick finally finding love at 52, that he has wanted his whole lie.
A sweet love story set in the middle of a living hell for the omegas.

Riveting story of MM shifter romance!

For adults only!!! This searing drama is set in an omega bait pit where wolf shifters are kept like slaves and forced to fight for their lives. It is sexually explicit and full of emotion. Great characters and well written storyline filled with suspense, heartache, pain and love. Proof that one man can make a difference.

Don’t Bother

There is nothing to recommend in this story. They setup an undercover operation, send their doctor in alone and the doc is left to his own devices with no support or backup for weeks. When the doctor does call, they’re busy someplace else. It’s just ridiculously shortsighted and stupid. Couple that with the unrelenting brutalities and I was done. I don’t care how it ends, I won’t read another of these brutal stories.

Luckily this series can be read as standalone books too. I´m not so sure about this book. I liked it well enough but the insta love aspect isn´t much to my liking. And it was mentioned several times that is is very unhealthy for an omega to get preagnant but Nico and Mick don´t even think about it and are totally surprised that Nico is preagnant after they had sex several times. That is a part I don´t get. It was a part I really didn´t like.

30% way in and Mick is so indifferent to the suffering of Nico. I thought they were going to bond in a hurt/comfort way, but Mick looked at Nico like a piece of meat just as the others did. The only difference was he didn’t force himself on Nico. Also the premise feels full of plot holes. It’s not satisfying.
