One wedding party, two jilted lovers, and three ill-behaved dogs. Can they add up to love? Numbers-guy and best man Price Robertson dances with the maid of honor, and sparks ignite. She gets him. He hasn’t ventured into a relationship since a heart-wrenching rejection years back. But, it’s pointless. He’ll never see her again. Dancing with Price is amazing, but Annika Dearborn needs this wedding to end so she can get back to studying. Being a returning student is rough. If she’d never quit school for Mr. Wrong years ago, she wouldn’t be in this mess. Too bad the Price is leaving. The brilliant best man would be the best tutor.
Then Price winds up on the FBI’s no-fly list. He can’t leave Hawaii—or Annika. Or the crazy dog-sitting and house-sitting favor she offered to do for Price’s best friend.
Will Price and Annika let go of the past and see the chance that barks right at their heels?
(Originally titled The Bookish Billionaire as part of the Getaway Bay Clean Billionaire Beach Club romance series. Also titled House-Sitting with the Best Man.)
I love a story that ends with a kiss, whether it's a book or a movie. That's the big payoff! So that's the kind of books I like to write, and I call my style "cotton candy for the soul"-- light, sweet, gone. We all need a little escape from reality for a while, and escapist fiction can be the perfect remedy.
I'm a moderately bad housekeeper, I have a black thumb, and it takes a small miracle to get my hair to curl. My handsome husband and I live in the Arizona desert where we're raising our five children, who never let us stop laughing.
Aloha, Getaway Bay! I'm b-a-a-a-ck! And it's fantastic to be back on the Big Island of Hawaii in this place that's feeling a lot like home.
You know how some people have a maid or a personal chef? Or maybe even a personal trainer? I'm wondering if there's any way I could have my own personal author to sit and write me swoony books to read, and right now, I'm looking at you, Jennifer Griffith!
I was completely stunned by this story--not because it's the most life-altering book I've ever read, but because of the author's incredible ability to completely portray her characters through simple words. Price and Annika came to life in an unbelievably realistic way.
Price is slightly nerdy (okay, being completely honest here, he's a total nerd) and his idiosyncrasies are accurately portrayed, yet they completely mesh with Annika's personality. Each character has something deep to hide, yet they can't deny the instantaneous combustion that ignites their souls. And it's a very large, very loud, and very slobbery St. Bernard that really seals the deal.
Honestly, I devoured this novel faster than my box of See's chocolates Valentine's candies and I'm hoping, praying, and crossing my fingers for more. My advice before reading this one? Clear your schedule and be prepared to swoon!
Content: mild romance (swoony, kissing)

I've had a lot of fun reading these Getaway Bay books by Jennifer Griffith. There are several others by other authors but I've only read the three she has authored for the series. It really makes me want to go visit a beautiful and very warm area with a beach and ocean to sit and relax by. Ahhhhh, doesn't that sound warm and delightful? It might just be below freezing where I'm at right now, so it sounds heavenly to me.
If you've read, The Benched Billionaire, then you get to enjoy the wedding of the main couple from that book in the beginning of this book. Did I confuse you there? Price and Annika are the main couple in this book. They were secondary characters in the previous book so it was fun to see them have their meet cute (or meet funny in this book) and get their own happy ever after story.
Jennifer Griffith is an author that I love to go to when I need some good fun humor. Not to mention some awesome throwbacks to pop culture. I was giggling over her the many references she uses and the memories of those references. Hee Hee! Love it!
Price and Annika were a fun couple to read about. Especially the dog sitting adventure that comes their way. Oh heavens. A Saint Bernard. Big doggy! My brother always wanted that breed of dog since he was a young boy. So when his third child was a baby, they got a puppy. He was massive as a puppy. Hahaha! And my little niece and this pup crawling around together was so stinking cute. She would crawl all over this little (big) pup and he would just lay still letting her do so. But the slobber...yuck. It was pretty intense too, especially when he got older. And we won't talk about what comes out after the food goes in. *giggling* Land mines people, LAND MINES! Just saying. I loved the dog care backpack kit they carried around in the story. It was awesome. And the two leashes they had to use to walk him. Hahaha! But I do have to say that my brother's dog was super sweet and loving. Even though he was a tank when he was full grown, he was well loved, fluffy, and shared his slobber and hair very liberally.
There is a smart house that cracked me up, especially the name. I was cracking up laughing whenever that name was mentioned in the story. And it wasn't just used for the house. Oh, seriously throw back to great lines and phrases from my childhood and youth. I think about all those phrases and the phrases used now, yeah I have to say I liked all of the older ones better. If you haven't read any of Jennifer Griffith's books then go grab some and enjoy and see if you can catch the fun references. Some books definitely have more than others.
The last part of the story had me frustrated with Annika. But there has to be some sort of conflict between the characters that can be resolved before they can move on and be happy together forever. You know it's all part of the formula for a Happily Ever After (HEA) story. I was tired while I was finishing the last part of the book so that could definitely have added to my frustration with Annika. But overall, I really enjoyed the whole story and all the different aspects that the author was able to add in to create a well written and fun story. If you need a good laugh, sweet love story, some mystery, then this is a book that will fit that bill. Don't forget to find those throwback references. ;-)
Content: Clean. A couple kissing scenes but nothing more than kisses.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Price Robertson is smart, very logical, and maybe a little awkward. He meets Annika at his best friend’s wedding. They hit it off, but Price needs to fly back home and get back to work. A mix-up puts him on the TSA no-fly list, and opens up the door to spending more time with Annika in Hawaii. Before he knows it, they’ve agreed to dog-sit a very loud and disobedient St. Bernard.
I loved Annika and Price together. It was one of those cases where Price might have trouble communicating with other people, but with Annika there wasn’t any difficulty at all. She understood him, and took him how he was, quirks and all. And he accepted and built her up.
I loved the dog training aspects of the story. I don’t have a dog, and now understand why! I loved the way that Price researched training techniques, and how they kept at it. The solution to the problem was one that I didn’t see coming, and really enjoyed.
Full of humor, love, bad timing, and the right timing, this book made me laugh, smile, and shake my head.
Content: clean (some kissing, no language, no violence)
I loved this storyline so much. I'm a huge fan of the nerdy/geeky guy finding the love of his life. The awkward moments that arose felt realistic and were so endearing. The humorous elements kept me laughing out loud and flipping the pages. On a steaminess level I would rate this a hot PG. A bit more passion than I am comfortable with, but nothing went too far.
The Bookish Billionaire by Jennifer Griffith (3 1/2 stars)
This is the first of Ms. Griffith’s millionaire series that I’ve read. There seemed to be a lot of references to the book right before this one and that made for a bumpy ride, so to speak. Eventually, I figured out the basic background of things that had been referred to, but I really think it would have helped to have read, “The Benched Billionaire” first.
Now that I’m done with that friendly little rant, on to the review.
I really enjoyed Price, his need for logic and how he had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. I liked how he had moments where he tuned out because he was so lost in his own thoughts (and that we, the readers, got to join him and see how his mind worked). One fun moment is how he thought Annika’s face was beautiful and finally figured out why-so cute of him to analyze it!
I think Annika is a lovely free spirit and she’s just what Price needs, but she’s also not embarrassed by him and seems to ‘get’ him. It’s a fun relationship to watch develop!
Jennifer Griffith is a favorite author of mine and “The Bookish Billionaire” doesn’t disappoint. This is clean, light and enjoyable, with unique characters.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
Another great story by Ms Griffith! I really liked the nerdy take on this story. Great characters. But now I really need to visit Hawaii!

The Bookish Billionaire is the latest book in the Beach Club Series. This book can be read as a stand-alone novel or in a series. This is the third book by Ms. Griffith in this series. This book focuses on two characters you meet in the previous books. Price Robertson is the best man for his friend McCoy in his wedding and while at the wedding dances with the maid of honor, Annika. They hit it off that night, but don’t believe they will see each other again. Then, Price finds out that he has to stay there until further notice. He helps Annika out why he waits. Together they discover that maybe they like each other more than they thought they would. This is a fun, romantic story that was interesting and upbeat! I highly recommend this book and her other books as well! ***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the author for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
I like Jennifer Griffith, but this one was a little too unbelievable
2.5 stars Normally, I am all about the unbelievable with a clean romance. I like getting lost in fiction. But, this book was just too much for me and I had a hard time with the story. I couldn't connect to a dog who was an abaolute mennace until the characters found out they were speaking the wrong language. And staying in the same house with someone you have just met to dog sit--who does that?
I did like the beginning a lot when the characters met, and I really liked the chess and pool games.
This book had likable main characters. He is a little on the nerdy side and I don't think she is so much nerdy as that she "gets him" and is attracted to him. I'm not sure if it is because of or despite his being nerdy. They are cute together.
While this is not my favorite of Ms. Griffith's books it was fun that they were not typical characters. I did have some problems with how ridiculous the ex-girlfriend's claim was and that his mother would go along with it. How would any mother think that would make her son happy? I don't know much about smarthouses but I have to ask do they not have an emergency back up to allow people out of the house in a power failure? Seems like a real fire hazard.
So I guess the key is just to enjoy the story and not to get bogged down in the silly stuff. Also, Annika is one of my most favorite names so yay for using it.
Sex: Lots of heated thoughts and looks but no sex. Language: no Violence: no
Another fabulous book from Jennifer Griffith! The author writes such sweet stories. We all know how they are going to end, but the journey is such a joy! She sure knows how to write an incredibly annoying, get-under-your-skin villainess, too. She made me want to scream! I loved this light, clean romance.
I find it refreshing to read a well written clean story I even had to look up a new word “minutiae” so it was educational 😁 I enjoyed how the relationship between Annika and Price came together....Jocko and Murgatroyd kept the reading fun. Jennifer Griffith’s tag line is “Cotton Candy for the Soul” and I think she delivered on this one.
I loved reading the story of Price and Annika. So interesting to read about characters who don’t “fit the mold”, who are a little socially inept. Jocko certainly added to the fun. I really enjoyed the characters not jumping to conclusions and being misled by the things other characters did or said. Loved this book!
This was a cute story. Annica and Price make a cute couple. They each have a secret they are hiding. Will they be understanding of what happened and make their relationship work? Dog-sitting Jocko was a fun element to the story. I enjoy the clean stories that Ms. Griffith writes.
Smart and beautiful are great combinations. Super smart, super rich and awkward is even better. Meet Annika and Price. Two people, a crazy dog and a smart house that makes a wonderful story that you just want to keep going and going.
I enjoyed reading this book. There are several laugh out loud moments. The characters are well developed. The romantic scenes, for me, feel a little awkward but that's probably because I don't read much "clean" romance. All in all this book is a fun, enjoyable read.
This is a sweet and charming romance with fun and loveable characters that will steal your heart and tickle your funny bone with endearing and adorable moments too.
I really enjoyed Price and Annika's story. They are great together. After reading this, I know for sure I do not want a Smart Home! You will have to read this book to figure out why!!
The Bookish Billionaire--PG Violence: none Language: nothing offensive Sex: a couple kisses Price is a super sexy nerd-my kind of guy! Yeah!! [This has since been reissued as *Brokered: A Beach Billionaire Romance]
I really liked the down to earth characters and felt dumb listening to them at the same time (absolutely no brain for business or economics). Clean and fun
I don’t know if it’s the setting or the low key focus on the billionaire, but I love this series. You don’t need to read the first one to enjoy this, but you should. Price is such a great character with that whole quirky thing working to his advantage. Annika really tried to get past her regrets and tries to embrace love. The ending takes the low key billionaire to swoony levels.
