Doomsday Haven

Rate this book
Dark, powerful forces, willing to stop at nothing.
A conspiracy deep-rooted throughout our institutions.
A cyber attack. An EMP. Drone warfare.
Americans caught in the crosshairs. Doomsday had begun.

Author Bobby Akart once again masterfully tells a tale of a nation on the edge of societal collapse. For decades, Americans had found themselves increasingly at odds with one another - politically, socially, and culturally.

In DOOMSDAY: APOCALYPSE, book one in the Doomsday series, it's New Year's Eve. As the ball drops in Times Square, Americans are preparing for a new year and a fresh start. Instead they find themselves fighting for their lives as a fuse has been lit that sends the country into chaos.

A targeted EMP attack on several Mid-Atlantic states. A cyber attack disrupts transportation in Washington, D.C. Drones unleash dirty bombs and chaos in New York City. Chaos ensues at a packed concert venue in Atlanta. And, a seemingly unrelated plane crash in the small southern town of Mobile, Alabama adds to the confusion.

In DOOMSDAY: HAVEN, the series continues as the gloves come off and a war erupts. The nation's political leaders fail to see the signs, and now ordinary Americans are caught in the crosshairs as a second civil war looms on the horizon.

As Americans struggle to survive, they seek a place of safety where they could ride out the coming storm. However, even if they can overcome the threats confronting them, will they bear witness to an America hell-bent on destroying itself?

This is a story of a nation divided, and what that portends for our future. Remember, all empires collapse eventually, and America will be no exception. Political suspense collides with post-apocalyptic thriller fiction as the Doomsday series continues with Haven.

ABOUT THE DOOMSDAY SERIES

With political rancor at an all-time high, the war of words escalates and a political war erupts. Americans are caught in the crosshairs of societal unrest and a mysterious society sworn to protect the constitution against those who threaten it, at all cost.

America has become embroiled in something more than a clash of ideologies. She is now facing a battle in which the blood of tyrants and patriots will be shed.
This is a story about a nation divided and what that portends for the future.

This book took me an inordinately long time to read. I had to put it down repeatedly and wished it was not an electronic copy so that I could throw it (didn't want to throw my Ipad). I use several criteria when rating/reviewing books.
1. Execution: Can the author write decently and as error-free as possible? Does the story flow and is the writing and dialogue interesting and done well? For this Bobby Akart would get high marks.
2. Story: Is the plot interesting and well-thought out? Is it original or just a retread of the same kind of story as other writers have done? Are the elements of the story believable? Are the characters engaging? For the first two parts of this, Akart would again get high marks, but not so much on the third and fourth and not because I don't think this scenario is feasible (I do).
3. Enjoyment: Did I enjoy the book? The other criteria certainly affect this, but there is also an overall and intangible quality to a book that makes me like or dislike it. This is where I struggled badly with this book. I am not all a fan of using real life, public persons as characters in a book since that automatically triggers the readers pre-conceptions about the person. More than a lot of fiction genres, post-apocalyptic/dystopian fiction has a lot of political effect, both in how it delivers the story from the attitudes of the author and how the attitudes of the reader receive it. I absolutely cannot stomach the fictionalized Trump here, portrayed in a sympathetic and as a person that is unfairly beleaguered. The fact that the story Trump could string together complete and articulate sentences was a mark of how fictionalized he was in this book. I just could not get past this. I get that part of this story has to do with the current polarization of political factions in the US today and I get that the author may have been trying to provoke the reader in this, though his marked dislike of the left is evident in this and other of his stories. However, I read books for enjoyment as well, and this left an unpleasant taste behind.

Haven bound

I enjoy reading Bobby Akart's books. Book one always introduces us to the characters. Book two. The plot, of what is to happen and how our characters handle the situation when disaster strikes. Tension mounts then escalates. We are at the seat of our favorite reading chair.....letting the adventure to begin to take us for a ride of our lives.....but not on a rollercoaster. I will never ride one again. Ever.

I want a Haven....

Fav quote to think about:
However, the last ten years really opened my eyes to how the fabric of our society is crumbling.

A storm is coming…

Merriam-Webster definition of haven:

haven noun
ha·ven | \ ˈhā-vən
\
Definition of haven

1 : harbor, port
2 : a place of safety : refuge
3 : a place offering favorable opportunities or conditions

Having almost psychic powers, the Smarts have been setting up a place of safety for themselves and like-minded people. Those who believed that one day, civilization as we know it would suffer from some sort of catastrophe. Little did they know that that day would come sooner rather than later. The Haven as they called it had everything they needed to survive as long as everyone involved pulled together and did what they were supposed to do. Not much to ask of anyone in my opinion. Everyone who applied to go to The Haven were heavily investigated and then had to go through an interview. Not everyone was accepted even though on paper they looked good. Those that did make the cut though would work together to see that the safety and survival of those there was protected. They all had passed the grade…
As the shtf, things moved quickly, and messages were sent that the time had come to gather together. Also, cryptic messages were received. Sent by…MM. The question was…who is MM and what did they mean? As in true Bobby Akart writing form, the book has set the setting for what is to come. The players, some known to us and some yet to be revealed are all in place. The world around us is falling apart…fast! Who is behind the attacks is yet to be known. We do know that there are two sides working against each other, both wanting to have the upper hand in this. But at what cost? The loss of lives? The fall of America? What is their reasoning? All of these questions I’m sure will be answered in future books in this breath holding, heart racing, engrossing series.
I applaud Mr. Akart for taking on a very tough but interesting subject for this series. What he has written so far could be taken from the news headlines today with all of the unrest in our country. His research is in depth, his knowledge and opinions are spot on. If you read one series this year, this is one you should definitely add to your library.

Haven is the second book in the Doomsday series. So far this series hasn’t disappointed. With Bobby’s epic storytelling ability, this one will keep you up reading to the last page. With scenarios that seem to be ripped straight from today’s headlines, Akart books are a “must read” for everyone that wishes to be prepared.
Haven is no exception. With so many twists and turns on every page you won’t want to put this one down!
Everyone needs their own little Haven, you know, that one place you feel safe and run to when things get bad. This series can give you ideas on how to set one up and what you will need to do when you do set yours up.

Another great story from Bobby Akart. All of them are realistic, but this time, in this political climate, the story rings true. I think all should be paying attention to what is going on. Yes, we have had disagreements before, even violence (60s), but there is something different this time. There is pure evil and hatred being displayed and promoted. I believe it may be too late to change the path because people are manipulating things and too many people are willing to believe what they're being told instead of searching out the facts. Also, too much of our citizenry are sheep and just not paying attention. By the time they do, it may be too late.

While parts of the US are still reeling and trying to recover from the terrorist attacks, the chosen people are arriving or already at The Haven. The group is now trying to adjust to the new reality of life as it is now. Will there be more attacks, will The Haven sanctuary get along with no issues or will they just have different problems to overcome. You'll have to get the next book in the series when it's released to find out. I recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys a character driven great yarn.

Brilliant

Another amazing series by Author Bobby Akart! He has an amazing ability to spin a story that pulls you in for a ride of a lifetime. His characters are like family.
As the USA fall into political craziness, a few have banded together to form a community called Haven where the characters come together to hopefully ride out TEOTWAWKI. The twists and turns not to mention the cliff hangers outstanding

"Another Captivating Novel"

In this powerful apocalyptic thriller, there's a conspiracy deeply rooted through America's institutions. Readers will be caught up in this story as the war erupts into the Second Civil War. When our nation is politically divided, will our country collapse to become a third-world weak nation? Awesome, thought provoking story only great author Bobby Akart can develop. True historical events always entwine in his stories. Highly recommended.

Yet another great adventure into the future of our nation. It's like a play by play of what is seen in the news, in print and in life today. Although this is fictional, it appears we will soon be living it in one way or another.
Bobby is a fantastic factual fiction writer. As with all of his books, you learn factual information along with the fictional (perhaps not) story line. Once you pick up one of Bobby's books, there is no turning back. If you learn anything, CHOOSE FREEDOM!

It may just be me, or that it was that well written, but this one seemed to fly by quickly. It would have been nice to get a bit more of the story in this part. That said, it's right up there with Akart's solid series'. I still don't get tired or reading his work and it's nice to know there is always more ready and waiting for me.

Seriously, though, he works his ass off puting out this many books a year. I love that he does, rather than rest on one book a year and keep everyone waiting.

Another thought provoking story

This book was eye opening giving our political issues and lack of respect we have as a society for each other in this great country. If we are not careful we will lose the very rights and liberties we all take for granted. Amazing book. It really is about people who are trying to make their way in a crazy and terrifying situation.

Haven

Another great series by Bobby Akart...Something is happening in the states and no one knows why or whose behind the chaos..... is someone trying to start another civil war or just cause chaos so that the government can turn a blind eye to what is really happening? Stay turned for Book 3

I don't know. I almost gave up on this book because of the 2 new main characters that were introduced at the beginning of the book. I'm not finding anything likable about them. I'm glad I stuck with it, though. Once the characters from the first book came back into play I was much happier. Hoping the new characters will grow on me in the next book.

History always repeats itself!

Bobby Akart is a master story teller, but he's also a person who cares! His series give us a glimpse of ways our culture could crumble. However, he also shows us ways to survive. I recommend this book. If the hate and anger in this country we patriots love so much isn't turned around, this series is prophetic.

Give me more!

Another great hit series. Can't wait to start reading Book 3. There are many more characters in this series; more than usual for this author's work. But the characters are compelling and are able to be more developed this way. This will probably be another one of those Akart novels that I am going to be depressed for a week when it ends.

Another Akart blockbuster!

This is another of Bobby Akart ‘s series of Apocalyptic excitement. I like the different disasters going on in various cities involving the families. The political parts aren’t that interesting to me, but I’ll read enough to get the just. On to the next...

Too close to reality to put down

The author carefully weaves his spellbinding tale to incorporate current factual data that makes his story so much more believable. It's as if he has time travelled forward and now come back to recount the facts. Hold on to your chairs brothers and sisters! It's going to be quite a ride!

Another great read

I have fallen in love with Bobby Akart novels. For the first time, a writer stands up to morons and people doing stupid, self-centered things. He doesn’t write wimpy characters who bow and scrape and people please. He writes characters who have the guts to stand up and say NO. I only wish life were a little more this way.

Go to Haven to survive?

In book 2, more people are introduced. Thank goodness for descriptions at the beginning to identify the returning cast of characters. Philosophies such as Destiny versus Fate are explored. As cities race to destruction, Patriots and Anarchists plan their next moves... this may seem a cryptic review, but the novel is cryptic...and hard to put down!

The perfect sequel to book 1

I'm enjoying this series immensely, love the way Akart has written this story! Can't wait to start book 3 momentarily 🙂. It's hard to believe this series was written in the past but is mirroring the events of today. Terrifying 😳. I feel like we're right on the verge of what's happening in these books.

Wearisome length

I enjoy Mr. Akart's work, he writes great books with interesting characters, informative situations, and fun to read. I'm tiring of the 200 pages released every 40 or so days. I read the "book" in about 3 hours and have to wait for the next.

Bobby, this series keeps knocking it out of the park. The characters are well fleshed out, the events are terrifyingly real. It’s just over way too fast! Can’t wait to see the next book!

Easy read

I always say it was like a short story because it's such a good read that I'm done before I know it. All Bobby's series are good, but this rates up there with Boston Broum series! Sorry about the spelling, Brawm, Broghm.

Great Read

Another great read from Bobby Akart. Fast paced, great character development set amidst a world in chaos caused by political intrigue. Akart creates a scenario that is plausible given the polarization that our nation is currently struggling with.
