Double Fudge & Danger

Rate this book
Since taking the job of an on-site apartment manager, single-mom Cambria Clyne's life has been one wild ride. Streaking residents, a corpse in the dumpster, rogue parrots—she has seen it all. Or so she thinks.

When the manager of the apartment building next door, Violet Pumpkin, goes missing, Cambria steps in to help run the property and aid in the investigation. The problem is, the more Cambria digs, the more she discovers Violet had been anything but honest in her dealings and there are more suspects than Cambria has fingers. The shady pizza delivery guy, the stressed property owners, the drunken rooftop walker, the mysterious Clint Eastwood look-alike lurking around, or one of the angry residents who received rental increases the day before Violet vanished. Of course, there's still the business of doing her own job, parenting an outspoken three-year-old, and choosing between the two men in her life. Cambria is in over her head—not that that's ever stopped her before!

Will Cambria find Violet before it's too late, or will she be the next apartment manager to go missing?

Double Fudge & Danger is a funny story with quirky and entertaining characters and a mystery to solve that keeps your attention to the end. Cambria Cylne is a property manager of a forty unit apartment complex in Los Angeles and another one in Burbank. She and her three year old daughter, Lilly, live on site in the LA complex and have an extended family of residents that is always on hand to help watch Lilly while Cambria is off solving mysteries or management problems. Her friend Amy is in New York City competing in a dance competition. If she makes it to the end, Cambria and a guest will get to go see the finale. In the midst of watching the competition, Cambria has an emergency call that takes her to the neighboring complex to check out an emergency water leak because the property manager, Violet, in MIA. She also has a call at her complex that someone is trying to break in a unit. Never a dull moment. Cambria feels that it is important to solve Violet's disappearance and she throws herself into the investigation. Her police detective boyfriend Chase is out of town on business but his partner, Hampton, is on the case. Cambria is so helpful giving Hampton clues that she discovers in between dealing with her own "circus" and Violet's "circus." Lilly's father or as Cambria calls him her baby daddy, Tom, was a one night stand but loves his daughter and helps out with Lilly, both monetarily and physically.
This book is my first of the series but I didn't have a problem following along with the story and the author does a good job at background information. The characters are so hilarious and eccentric but expect some danger before it is all over and mysteries are solved. Cambria is a funny but confused person. She knows how to pick boyfriends. Both Tom and Chase are "tens." She wanted Tom to love her and marry her for so long that she gave up. Now Chase is in the picture and things are so much better when he is around. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book because I think she will have some decisions to make.
I received a complimentary ARC from the publisher. All opinions are mine only.

The laugh out loud adventures of a property manager. Cambria is surrounded by ridiculous tenants, special friends, a charming ex and a murderer. Cambria gets caught up in a fast-paced series of events and carries the readers along with laughter and suspense. This is the third book in the series and the first for me. It didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the first two books. The relationships were easy to understand and any references to the past were brief.

Overall this was a good read. I do enjoy reading these books. Cambria always seems to find herself in a mess and never a small one. I love her 2 year old daughter Lilly. She is so adorable. My only real complaint is I don't like how this is starting to turn into a love triangle thing. I wish the author had just let her love life stay the way it was. I was happy with the way things were. Hopefully as the series goes on it won't be a huge problem.

What an enjoyable read. The author definitely made these characters believable and I found myself at times giggling and exclaiming “no, no, NO”. And although I did not start with the first book in this series Erin Huss explained everything in such a way that I did not feel like I had to stop mid point and start with the first book. I look forward to reading more from this author and reading more about Cambria. P.S. I have the Pink Panther ditty stuck in my head ☺️ I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

I love this cozy mystery series. Cambria Clyne is a neurotic, germaphobe, over thinking apartment manager with a small daughter, baby daddy, and detective boyfriend who also has a tendency of finding dead bodies. The characters who live in the apartment complex are crazy enough to drive her to stress eat ice cream and occasionally question her sanity.

The story was funny, snarky, suspenseful and complex. The primary and secondary characters were well developed and addictive. Highly recommend the book and series.

“Double Fudge & Danger” is book three in the series of the Cambria Clyne Mysteries of which I look forward to reading more. It is a delicious mixture of mystery, romance, family, and friends and a fun, fast and interesting read. I haven’t read the other books in this series yet, however, I don’t think that this spoilt my enjoyment of this novel. That said, there is nothing more exciting than picking up a book that is the first in a new series.

Since taking the job of an on-site apartment manager, single-mum Cambria Clyne's life has been one wild ride.

When the manager of the apartment building next door, Violet Pumpkin, goes missing, Cambria steps in to help run the property development and can’t resist helping with the police investigation. However, the more Cambria digs, the more she discovers Violet had been anything but honest in her dealings and more suspects than Cambria could imagine start to surface - the stressed property owners, a dodgy pizza delivery guy, the drunken rooftop walker, the mysterious Clint Eastwood look-alike lurking around, or one of the angry residents who received rental increases the day before Violet vanished. Then there's still the business of doing her own job, parenting a lively three-year-old and choosing between the two men in her life. Cambria has a lot to deal with - not that that's ever stopped her before!

Who is telling lies? Can anyone be trusted? Will Cambria find Violet before it's too late, or will she be the next apartment manager to go missing?

Erin Huss’ delightful writing style is well-paced and complemented by clever, witty opening phrases introducing each chapter. She has created an eclectic and quirky group of residents in this apartment complex some of whom were annoying but helped to make the story as good as it was. However, it was great that they all pulled together and relied on each other as good friends do. Cambria’s two handsome love interests add some romantic and spicy entanglement. Written in the first-person narrative and sharing Cambria’s innermost thoughts, Erin Huss includes some wonderful witty banter and vivid descriptions. Although being disorganised and a bit of a worrier, the extremely likeable Cambria demonstrates admirable inner strength and her desire for eating copious amounts of double fudge or any other flavour of ice-cream was astounding, as were her attempts at mothering her feisty and outspoken daughter.

The book had a natural, steady pace and I was kept guessing right until the surprising reveal. Delightful and entertaining, “Double Fudge & Danger” is a quick, light, highly recommended read for all cozy mystery fans.

“Double Fudge & Danger” earns 5/5 Tango Twists…Clever and Entertaining!

There is so much to love about this series, and starting with the third book was fine for this newbie. Cambria Clyne and several residents are enjoying their friend Amy’s participation in Celebrity Tango, but emergencies have ruined the evening. A major water link should put Cambria on high alert, but the caller on the emergency line is not a resident. She lives in up-scale complex next door, but their manager Violet Pumpkin is not answering her phone! But Cambria gets a call from one of her own residents, scared about a burglar on her patio…now on the roof! There's a 9-1-1 call, first responders, and an odd misunderstanding. Ms. Water Leak calls again. The ceiling is…crash! Violet is still MIA, and when Cambria learns Violet turns out to be living in the upstairs apartment, Cambria goes to check it out. Door unlocked. Purse and phone on counter. Tub overflowing. Blood on the window sill. Violet is missing! But, Cambria discovers to others her friend may not have been so friendly.

Erin Huss has a delightful writing style, well-paced, and accented by clever, snarky, or “just a nice giggle” little phrases introducing each chapter. She created quite the eclectic group of residents in this complex that would try anyone’s patience, but they rely on each other like family. There are two handsome men with their eye on her adding some romantic entanglement. With a delightful first-person narrative sharing Cambria’s inner thought, Erin includes a witty banter and vivid descriptions. Despite some flaws and worries, Cambria has an admirable inner strength, clever repartee, and great mothering instincts she applies to more than her three-year-old daughter. Fun. I high recommend this series, and starting with Double Fudge & Danger is a great place to start.

i love this series
shes a apt manager in la with a young 3 yr old daughter

the neighboring apts had a manager she would talk to , but one of their tenants called her about a leak and she finally went over there after not getting a hold of the manager. she found the managers apt had been broken into, the water running and that was what was causing the damage downstairs

she called the police and her cop boyfriend.

she also got additional duties of another apt building to take care of, she had a little closet as a office and she had to give rent increases and tell the other tenants what they were doing wrong. she left them all letters

she tried to go to the hospital to visit her tenant who fell off the roof but the hospital wont let her see him or tell her why not (he was suing her)

she found the managers dead body in the apt of a girl who had a cat that wasnt allowed , but she was out of the country. when she got back she was more mad about the cat

she found the assistant manager of the bldg next door with the man she thought killed the lady, but it turned out it was the girl. the man tried to kill her, but her soon to be fbi cop boyfriend killed him. when the girl tried to kill him , she pushed him out of the way, getting a concussion and shot in the butt.

she went to vacation to ny to see her friend perform on tv show, with the cop
she was offered to interview for job as manager next door in the bigger more expensive apts, but she didnt know if she wanted to keep doing that

the father of her daughter now wants to get back with her, but she likes her cop friend and doesnt trust the daughters father

This is my first Erin Huss book. It is a cozy mystery that was fun to read. The writing style is fun and it is entertaining to get Cambria's inner commentary on what is going on. I enjoy cozy mystery, amateur sleuth books. It wasn't a complete mystery to me through the book as I figured out a bunch of it much earlier than Cambria did but there were twists and turns that I didn't anticipate so some of the resolve was a surprise to me.

I'm wondering if the name Silvia Kravitz is a shout out to the neighborhood busy body from Bewitched, Gladys Kravitz. If not it is something of a coincidence that lines up with my childhood memories of a favorite TV show. It made me smile.

Cambria seems to have a habit of walking in on people having sex. It is not detailed but it is blunt. Is this a normal thing for people? I've never in my life walked in on someone in the act and she does three times in a very short time period. Just wondering.

There is a romance element to the book but it isn't the main focus of the story and isn't resolved by the end. I guess we have to read further into the series to learn how that ends up.

Over all it is a fun read.

Sex: Cambria walks in on others having sex three times. What? Innuendo. Sexual references.
Language: yes, some.
Violence: yes, not overly graphic.

I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I highly recommend this book! This was both a new author & series to me & I am so happy I got to read this.I try to do my reviews by listing Pros, then cons, then a bottom line. Truthfully, I have no cons with this book!. I loved the little sayings at the start of each chapter. I loved Cambria's little "note to self" comments.
The characters were great. Cambria & Kevin have a great friendship. Very real. Their banter rings so true. I know Kevins! Mr. & Mrs. Nguyen are good characters too. Cambria has a good support system between the Nguyens & Kevin. And everybody talks like real people. The secondary characters, like David, were well fleshed out too. I also love that she eats junk & isn't a gourmet chef.
This was a unique setting, & Cambria has a unique job for a cozy. But, it's very real. I live in a MH Park ( I've lived in several) & they are very much like the apt. complex Cambria manages. The author knows her subject.
Bottom line= This was a book that when I wasn't reading it I was looking forward to when I could get back to it. I've already put the 1st book on my wish list for next month. I would recommend this book to any cozy fan, or anybody who wants a fun, enjoyable read.

This series is so good.
Again, I was completely clueless about who the murderer was and all the things that happened... I love that so much. The author really knows how to write a good mystery 👍
She also knows how to put funny things in her books. I already spoke about some things in my previous reviews, but here is another thing (that started in book 1). It's Cambria's hair. She gave her hair a name. Like people do with their wigs or toupees 😎 I just love it so much 🤣

As a mainly romance reader, I at least get a tiny bit of romance here. I mean, Cambria is a young woman, and she is good-looking, too. So, it would be another crime if she didn't have someone interested in her, wouldn't it? 😉 But it's as complicated as all the crimes in the books are. Because there isn't just one man in her life 🙈 And I'm so looking forward to the last book in this series and hoping this will be solved, too 🤞
Honestly, I'm not sure who I would choose either 🙈

If you know my romance reviews, you know I love to use anecdotes from my life in my reviews. Here is one...
In one scene there is an old Cindy Crawford poster on the wall. What's so special about it? Well, when I met my husband MANY years ago, he had one on his wall too 😎 OK, it was the back side of his door not the wall, but tomato tomato 😁

Double Fudge & Danger is the third book in Cambria Clyne Mystery series and another great read.

What I particularly like about this series is its light and easy style, steady pace and many funny moments. I like that main character is hilarious without being stupid and careless. She is also a mother to which I can relate as well.
Another thing that I like is even though she ends up in this ridiculous situations it's not over the top and too exaggerated.
Her friends are always there to help out and investigate with her and they are such a hilarious motley bunch.

When she gets a call about dripping ceiling, Cambria can't resist but help out a tenant even though it's not her monkey. However when she turns up at the apartment tenants claims that she doesn't need help anymore. When Cambria goes to the apartment above and realizes that it belongs to the fellow manager. Apartment has obviously been tossed and the manager is missing. Obviously she can't help herself since something is not right and starts another investigation.

One more absorbing story is this series sure to appeal to cozy readers.

This light-hearted mystery was super-fun to read. Cambria is a heroine I can really get behind. She’s witty, self-deprecating, and kind of a mess, but she’s also good-hearted and smart. The plot clipped along at a good pace. The characters were vibrant and real. I especially liked the tone of the book. I was very much reminded of the TV show “Psych” as I was reading; it had that clever-but-not-serious vibe to it that I really love (the 3 year old's temper tantrum in Vietnamese about killed me). This is the first of the series that I have read, but the author smartly does not make arcane references; she mentioned just enough that made me want to go back and buy the previous two (which I did). Also, having worked at an 840-unit apartment complex, I can verify that everything Cambria says about property management and tenants is absolutely true! A delightful series that I am glad to have found. I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cambria Clyne, an apartment manager in L.A, was a low-income, single mother of a 3-year old daughter. She also had a bad habit of eating her feeling. Well, I guess you would too if you had her job with the late-night “emergency” calls and frustrated tenants.

Naturally, Cambria talks about the eclectic variety of characters that take up residence in her complex. Cambria is definitely as quirky as her tenants though, especially with her tendency to overthink and ramble on in her brain. She makes a lot of notes to herself.

When another on-site manager goes missing, Cambria was tossed into the mix. After all, there was a lunatic kidnapping apartment managers!

Although this sounded like a decent cozy mystery, I have to say that the mystery was rather slow and daunting. It felt like I was getting more of the neighbors (their leaks and problems) rather than any details to the case. The story really didn’t hold my interest.

What a fun cozy mystery! A new author for me, and a new series. It worked fine as a stand-alone, but I do want to go back for more Cambria Clyne! The apartment manager job, and skilled writing, provide for many laugh out loud moments. Cambria juggles crazy tenants, an adorable young daughter, and a penchant for trouble. She is kind hearted and maybe interferes too much where she shouldn't, but the adventures are so entertaining! She has a boyfriend in the delightful LAPD detective Chase and her daughter's baby daddy is interested in getting back together. What to do?!

As for the mystery, it is well developed and kept me guessing. Cambria put the pieces together throughout the story and the details were well woven together and revealed at a nice pace. There are plenty of associated parts of the story, lots of characters, and a satisfying resolution. This is a winner, I'm glad I picked this one up!

Single mom and apartment manager Cambria can’t seem to keep her nose out of danger. When she gets a call from a resident at the complex next to hers asking for help, she finds herself unable to say no. What she soon discovers in a missing apartment manager (Violet) and lots of strange going on. Did Violet find herself in the middle of a robbery gone bad? Is she in hiding because of something she did or saw? Cambria decides she not only must help to run the property next door with a ditzy assistant manager, but she must also aid in the investigation that Hamilton has been left in charge of.

This is a laugh out loud madcap adventure that only Cambria can find herself in. If you love funny mysteries with quirky characters and lots of adventure, then this book must definitely be added to your to be read pile.

Crazy, Funny Cozy Mystery
When the manager of the apartment building next door, Violet Pumpkin, goes missing, Cambria steps in to help run the property and aid in the investigation. The problem is, the more Cambria digs, the more she discovers Violet had been anything but honest in her dealings and there are more suspects than Cambria has fingers. The shady pizza delivery guy, the stressed property owners, the drunken rooftop walker, the mysterious Clint Eastwood look-alike lurking around, or one of the angry residents who received rental increases.
This is a good mystery. Cambria has a problem. The manager of the apartment complex next door has disappeared. She keeps running into problems. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.

This fourth book in the Cambria Clyne Mystery series by Erin Huss was one of the most entertaining cozy mystery stories I have read in a long time. Cambria, the main character, is one of the least likely sleuths ever. And, those notes to herself, just about make the book all by themselves, except when combined with the actions taken, really make the book come alive and entertain the reader. Not having read any of the prior books in the series did not create any drawbacks for reading this book, as there were only a few mentions of prior issues. However, I will certainly be adding them to my TBR file. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.

This was my first read by this Author.
I have to say this was a cute, funny read. I had a few laugh out loud moments. I wasn't expecting those. Cambria Clyne is in over her head and we get to see the hilarity and mystery that ensues when the manager of the apartment building next door, Violet Pumpkin, goes missing. Cambria is a single mom and I quickly learned adept at aiding in missing persons and murder investigations. As we watch her juggle all the chaos around her, we are introduced to some quirky characters as well. I have to say I didn't expect this to be as well-written and engaging as it was. I will be going back to read books 1 & 2 and the rest of the series.

This is a Mystery and was good. I have not red book 1 or 2 and was able to follow along well. It can be read as a stand alone. This Book had me laughing very hard.

Cambria is a single mom that is an apartment manager. She really gets her self into trouble. but some how manages to get out. they are a quirky bunch of character and really have fun with things.

She always seems to have a knack for walking in on people having sex. The way she handles her crazy tenants, her child's Dad and her boyfriend is quite crazy. .

The writing style is fun and it is entertaining to get Cambria's inner commentary on what is going on.

I really enjoy this series by Erin Huss featuring apartment manager Cambria Clyne and her three-year-old daughter Lilly. I found this book so delightful and funny! I can't tell you the number of times I laughed out loud at something that happened in the story. Cambria always finds herself in some kind of disaster and I like how she manages to work her way out of it. There's even romance involved...looks like it's turning into a love triangle which I'm not too fond of but I'm definitely impatiently waiting for the next book to see if that gets resolved. Overall, excellent read!

setting is good, premise of apt manager too- But!

This monologue of paranoid “Chlamydia” is unpleasant, exhausting, and confusing. The protagonist’s name is dreadful.
While the premise of an apartment manager works well, and the characters could be interesting, the manager must
shut up and develop a few of the characters.
The characters are very good. If we could be out of her head and out in the world with them, this series would be much better.
I’ll still finish the series, because I like Kevin and I really like Chase. (This woman is too stupid to choose him.)
There’s always hope!

This book is one fun read! Cambria has so much going on, I honestly don't know how she functions (she does seem awfully stressed and forgetful at times). There's the crazy and nosy tenants of the apartments she manages, prospective tenants who are a bit shady, people creeping around on the balconies, and then a missing apartment manager! Things just don't add up, which sends Cambria in circles trying to figure it all out. She's also got her baby-daddy saying things he shouldn't, and her boyfriend who has no idea how close the ex is. Such drama! It was great fun to read about though!

This book is hilarious and I loved reading it. I honestly couldn't put it down and stayed up way too late reading it because I just had to know what kind of craziness would happen next. The life of a Cambria Clyne is certainly a roller coaster. I've read all 3 books in this series and it is amazing how these characters have developed. They are a quirky bunch, but you can tell they truly care about each other. I care about them too as silly as that sounds. I want the best for Cambria and the gang. You will too after reading this fun book. Grab a bowl of your favorite ice cream and Enjoy!

Cambria and her special brand of crazy stumbled into another murder that nearly got her killed...again. This time she was trying to balance managing two properties, two men, her daughter, investigating another murder and all the crazy characters at the properties while trying to stay sane and uninjured. Chase's future looks bright with a possible career change and Tom still seems to want Cambria when it's convenient for him. It was nice seeing Silvia mellow a bit after finding a man who seemed to get along with Harold.

Absolutely love this series. I want Cambria to be my best friend. There is always something going on in the apartment complex she manages. But now the next-door apartment is in need of a manager has disappeared. Cambria steps in to try to help the assistant manager but finds herself stuck in a mystery of where is the manager and why are the reports so different.
This is such a laugh out loud book and worthy of reading it twice because it it so much fun!!

I was worried I would have a hard time getting into this story since its number three. But I did not. I loved this fun mystery. It reminds me of the fun Hallmark mysteries I love to watch. Cambria and the other characters are relatable and likable. I could see myself being friends with them. I was kept guessing the whole story as to who did it. I also laughed. I am definitely going to read the other books in the series. I was given a free ARC for an honest review.

Double Fudge & Danger

This series has me totally sucked in and I'm loving every minute of it. Erin Huss has a way of telling a story like no other. At the end I was hoping Cambria didn't take Tom up on his offer & I hope she sticks with Chase, he's a keeper. Kenny going to New York with them? That will make an interesting trip, he tends to months wrong thing at the wrong time.
