Unlike other "small-home living" books I've read this one provides sound reasoning and practical suggestions in equal measure. It's not a bunch of random tips with no logic and it's not a bunch of theory with no application. It's awesome! Yes, I can tell it's from the '80s by the decor of the rooms pictured but many of the interiors in this book would still be popular today. There's restraint here without being minimalist - a happy balance for people who want to live well in an uncluttered small space but don't like the spare look that comes from strict adherence to the rules of a look. I especially liked the section on studio living - way more depth on the subject than I usually see. I also liked the tone throughout - not too chummy and also not overbearing. I get the feeling that the ideas presented will hold water.
I have owned this book for several year, and have read it more than once. Used some of the ideas therein each time. Clearing out my bookshelves, I decided it's time to log this one and pass it on. Some really pretty rooms, but they seem to be either English or at least not in the US. Nevertheless, it's a pretty thing with some good ideas. I would recommend it.
