JUST 99 CENTS or FREE WITH KINDLE UNLIMITED! Nora Newberry is back again in Reminiscing With The Dead, the 3rd installment of her comeback series, "Return To Milburn"! When Lori Birdwhistle disappeared from Milburn twenty years ago, no one was sure whether she had been murdered or had simply skipped town. But those who knew her best were confident she’d never voluntarily leave her beloved son and simply take off. But, without a body and no real clues to go on, the case quickly went cold and, before long, life simply moved on. Now, thanks to a new visitor in town, the case is, once again, being investigated. But not by the official police - this time Nora is taking charge! But not everyone is so keen on the past being dug up. For some, there are secrets to be protected. And they are more than willing to kill if that’s what it takes to keep the past in the past… Join Nora in Reminiscing With The Dead as she investigates a mystery that spans the past & the present and involves some of the most prominent residents in Milburn, including one of her closest friends!
I'm a mother, wife, homemaker, pet lover, teacher, student, reader, writer, drinker of tea & wine (depending on the time of day) and sleep-deprived dreamer. I live in Syracuse, NY, with my husband, Doug (also a writer with books available on Amazon), our three children and too many furred & feathered friends to list!
Nora and her husband, Harvey, spotted a stranger walking down the road. It was winter in Wyoming and a blizzard had hit the area. Being from California, he had no idea how to survive in the severe weather. The young man was Austin Birdwhistle and he is searching for information on his mother, Lori, who disappeared 18 years earlier. Nora and Harvey offer to help Austin find answers.
There appears to be several people in Milburn who were connected with Lori, and who may have information regarding her disappearance. After talking with Mason Teaks about Lori several times, she suddenly finds him dead inside his home. This convinces Nora that she is on the right track for finding out what really happened to Lori. When Nora suddenly becomes a target of the murderer, she knows that she has to be careful, but still work quickly enough to solve the mystery!
Why was Mason Teaks, a cheerful man who never hurt anybody, killed? Will there be more deaths? Will there be additional attempts on Nora’s life? Will Nora’s family become the next target? What will become of Austin Birdwhistle?
Nancy McGovern has another winner to add to her credit. Her stories are down-to-earth. Her characters have complex personalities and you can relate to the situations described in her books. With so many different twists and turns in the story, it will be a challenge to put the book down before you reach the end. We are definitely looking forward to Return to Milburn #4!
Lori Birdwhistle vanished from Milburn twenty years ago. Those that knew her say she would never leave her son behind willingly. But there is no body, and no clues, so things preceded back to normal. Now a stranger is in town and Nora is looking into this disappearance. There are those that do not want this to happen and are willing to make sure the past stays in the past....even if they have to kill to do it. This is a great story. Has a new character that could have a great role in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a free ARC of this book.
This had a slow start, harping on how Californian’s can’t handle snowy winters (of course, it’s true!) Why would you pick up a stranger on the road?
Too many characters mixed with a boring plot. Not what you’d expect after enjoying so many other books in the Milburn Mystery series. This one just fell flat for me. But the next 3 books after this are way better. So, if you’re going to begin with the Return to Milburn series, I’d say skip the first 3 books and go on to the last 3 instead, which are Reading with the Dead, Knitting with the Dead, and Retiring with the Dead.
Love this series. The introduction of Austin into the town of Milburn has caused quite a lot of trouble for Nora and the citizens of the town. A twenty-year-old murder is about as cold as a cold case can get. However, Austin is determined to find his mother’s killer. All of the books I have read by Ms. McGovern have been great but this one is my new favorite. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series to see how the story evolves.
I just love this series! They can be stand alone but it's much more fun to read the entire series from the beginning! The characters are introduced easily and interactions between them are entertaining and interactive in a perfect flow. This one has me biting nails to the end! Great read and a real cozy murder mystery!
I have to confess that I have read stories by the author before, but I can't remember which ones! The story I have just read, well I have to say that I enjoyed it a great deal, I'll have to admit, I didn't finger out who done-it till Ms Nora said it. Darn!!
Enjoyed this book. Very interesting and keeps you wondering who did it. Just when you think you have it solved something changes and back to square one.
Reminiscing With The Dead by Nancy McGovern If everyone always told the truth all the time, it might get a little boring. On the other hand, maybe so many people wouldn’t get killed? I enjoyed this story and highly recommend the book.
This is the second book I've read with these people. I'm glad it doesn't really matter what order you read them in. Nancy really keeps you guessing as to who did it. Well worth the read
Really am enjoying this series of books. Highly recommend them. Good mysteries. Cozy reading. Great rainy day reads with mystery and just a smudge of homey.
A young man comes to town to find out who killed his mother 20 years ago. In the search another murder occurs and lots of twists and turns to the plot.
