There are certain things my mom should have told me:
~ I'm only half human.
~ In fact, gargoyles, vampires, and demons are real.
~ There's a secret society that kills people like me.

The Mythic Blood are half-human, half-supernatural. They've roamed the earth for centuries fighting against a powerful secret society who wants them all dead. One girl holds the key to change everything.

Within a few days, Lilianna Ross is orphaned, sprouting wings, and pursued by a madman. She also discovers a terrifying ability to inflict pain on anyone within ten feet of her.

As Lilianna struggles to come to terms with these changes, she must fight to stay alive. Even though she was warned to stay away from the dhampirs, they may be her only hope for survival. Especially their overbearing leader who says he's only trying to protect her.

*Previously titled FORLORN*. MYTHIC BLOOD is the first installment of this young adult angel and demon series. If you like Vampire Academy, Born at Midnight, and the TV series Grimm, then you'll love this new Dark Urban Fantasy.

A fresh and fascinating look at the world of the paranormal. More of a Dark Urban Fantasy than a paranormal romance, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and Lilianna's journey to a whole new world. The twists and turns keep coming, right up to the very end.

If you enjoyed CC Hunter's Midnight series, you will love this, too.

Forlorn is very engaging from the first page to the last! This book is loaded with unexpected turns and moves along at a very good pace... There are no slow, boring sections. Like going to a movie, and not wanting to go get popcorn, because you don't want to miss a single scene, Forlorn keeps the story moving and wanting to know what will happen next. As other reviewers have mentioned, I could easily have read it cover to cover, non-stop, if I had the time!

JJK does a great job of story telling and creating scenes that you can easily get immersed in. Her characters have enough realistic substance to really care about them, right from their first introductions. This connection with them makes for some strong emotional responses to some of the shocking things that befall them! (Treading carefully to avoid spoilers!)

I am a pretty picky reader an don't find new favorite authors easily, but if JJK keeps this sort of quality in the rest of the series, then she'll be on my list of "I'll read everything they write" authors!

A quick and easy read that fulfills the litmus test for a good read--it leaves you wanting and waiting for the next. Young protagonist with a newly revealed mysterious past? Check. Developing superpowers? Check. Wise mentors? Check. Potential multiple hot love interests? Check. Peer trouble in a school for future bad-asses? Check. Family trouble? Check. An evil organization with unlimited funds out to get you? Check. "Forlorn" may traverse familiar ground, but it's very comfortable ground--like an old friend--who does not disappoint. In a genre full of vampires and werewolves, anytime a new twist in YA supernatural characters comes along it is a time to celebrate.

I got an early copy of the e-book, and loved the fast-paced read. Like other reviewers, I found it difficult to put the book down to accomplish mundane tasks in my life (sleep, work, you know the like). I admit, some nights, I was up late to fit in one or two more chapters. I absorbed the pages quickly, and can't stop thinking about some of the complex layers of plot and potential paths for the series. This was an exciting and fulfilling read that left me wanting more. Plus, I loved the references to my old hometown. I'd recommend this to any of my fellow YA fantasy lovers. <3

Its difficult to find interesting, fast-paced, hard-to-put-down fiction. "Forlorn" met and exceeded each one of those challenges. From the first paragraph to the final chapter there were intriguing characters and plot twists that made it one of the most entertaining tales I've had the pleasure to read. Of course, I'm following the author and looking forward to the rest of the series.

I just finished Forlorn. I would have devoured it in one sitting but I had to do silly things like work and sleep. Can’t wait for the next book!
