What’s worse than a city under siege? An irritating father on a power trip.
It’s like the punchline to the worst childhood ever.
I may have spent my entire life wishing I could have my father back, but now that he’s here he can just head right back to where he came from.
He just won’t shut up about broken sights and Drak traditions and things that I can’t possibly understand. Mostly because he refused to tell me about them.
Thank god, Ilyan thinks he’s as much of a quack as I do. Well maybe not a quack, but he isn’t the leader of the Sain fan club. That role belongs to Ryland.
Ugh.
Let’s just hope too many more people don’t fall for his lies or I am going to pop him just like this zit that Edmund has trapped us in. And yes, it’s going to be just as gross.
Fall in love with Joclyn and Ilyan in this novella. Added to the series with the 2018 expansion, you wanted more kissing, more action, and betrayal? You got it!

Rebecca Ethington has been telling stories since she was small. First, with writing crude scripts, and then on stage with years of theatrical performances. The Imdalind Series is her first stint into the world of literary writing. Rebecca is a mother to two, and wife to her best friend of 14 years. She was born and raised in the mountains of Salt Lake City, and hasn’t found the desire to leave yet. Her days are spent writing, running, and enjoying life with her amazing family.
This series obviously took a lot of thought for the the authoress and it shows in many different ways. There's just some nagging concerns in my mind concerning Sain. He feels something like Gollum from Lord of the Rings. I'm really not too sure how much more of him I can take.
This was a great and interesting read. Rebecca did a fantastic job making me hate and distrust Sain more than i already did THEN question if he deserved the hate towards the end of the book (i still think yes, btw) I believe that this book adds some additional information not previously received and fills the gap nicely between the proceeding and following books. In this book Jos struggles with the possibility that her sights are no longer accurate and that she isn't living up the the potential of a Drak - not because she isn't powerful enough but because she is being hindered by the one that should be teaching her the ways of the Drak.
The book touches on Ryland who, unfortunately, still has the internal battle between him and his father going on. Although, he seems to be more himself (most of the time) It still breaks my heart to see him suffer like he does.
Overall i am really happy with this book and how it fits in with the rest of the series!!
This book is much shorter than the others thus far. I feel like there isn’t any suspense anymore because I read from Sain and Ovailia’s perspectives. I am in the loop too much it seems.
Sain being a villain is something I wasn’t expecting until the end of the last book. I feel like both Sain ad Ovailia are very one-note so far. I am hoping there is more to them later on.
Ryland falling in love with Risha is interesting but feels oddly too quick and too slow. The moments he does have with her seem a little forced to me but that could also be because he is still so broken inside. I hope that I get to learn more about Risha.
You can never have too much of Imdalind - either in full length book form or as a novella. This is a very welcomed new addition to Rebecca's excellent series! Love Ilyan, Ros, Wyn & Ry as we see a bit more detail of their lives under the evil thumb (& dome) of Edmund, the Vily, Sain & Olivalia - who are all mad, blood-thirsty psychopaths; but they don't half make brilliant villians to hate & wish to see our heroes get the better of them! Highly recommended, together with the rest of this wonderful & magical series - still need more yet please!
If hate could shred someone into pieces then Sain would be dead for me from long time. Jocelyn is doing great, however doubting herself a lot. There is lots going on in this story. Anger, hate even, worries, doubts, but also love and friendship. Lots of new secrets, new and old fights. It’s just great.
This book is a wonderful addition to the series! It fills in some questions, it gives more insight to some characters. I absolutely love this series and now can't wait to start the series over to get the full effect of adding this book in!!! Rebecca is a great author and makes it impossible to put her books down!!!
Im really loving seeing more of the vile Sain and the relationship he has with Ryland. It really shows how complicated family relationships are. Of course Illyan is amazing in this, and my mind travels to his painful future from time to time. Watching Jocelyn grow in her gifts and being in her head, clearly shows character growth that other stories ive read lack. Rebeeca spolis us with her writing lol. That much is evident as i continue to read her books and he read other authors in between her releases. Eagerly awaiting more of Rebeeca`s wriing!
DNF - I really enjoyed the first books in the series but I’m bored now! Nothing seems to be happening and I’m getting fed up with the jumping from different characters POV! Come on this is book 6! I know it’s a recently added novella but I’ve had enough I really can’t be bothered to read the last 2 now I’m done!
After years of a hiatus from Imdalind I decided to re-read thanks to the Ruby editions. I hadn’t read Brand of Betrayal before — I stopped after Burnt Devotion (though I had forgotten a lot of it). So this was new information in the flow of the other 5 books and man, do I want Sain to go down. LOL. Love the in-depth, behind the scenes information this book adds to the saga.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sarcasm meets strategy in this novella-style interlude that spotlights family dysfunction, hidden agendas, and growing distrust. Sain’s return and Ryland’s loyalty stoke the fire as Joclyn and Ilyan try to hold everything—and everyone—together. It’s short, sharp, and sets the stage for chaos.
This book adds a nice bit of filler to the whole series. There are different points of view addressed and answers a few questions that were left open in previous books.
Rebecca Ethington has done a very good job with this book and with the series as a whole.
This was a book that have a piece of what was missing in the series. There is still a little that needs resolved in the finishing acts. But the series as a whole is of the keeper variety.
I love the story but I don't like the main character is being written. I mean the readers are supposed to be on the main characters side & I find myself wanting her to lose because to me she's not a hero. She's an asshole.
Get a freaking EDITOR!!! As I said in my review of the previous book, this book is also full of errors. I like this story but it would be so much easier to read if I didn't have to report content errors every few pages.
Sain meets with Ovailia as she tries to get their location from him. He tries to undermine Jocelyn and make her doubt herself Dylan's gets better control over himself, but noticed Rain is controlled by his Dad.
What will the sight bring is it broken , will she learn to see , will ryland get sorted . I like the fact that you heard from ovi . But it's so confusing whipping off who but it's great because you wanna find out in the next book
The first three books were great, but then they started to overlap and from there on it became more and more confusing now I just want to get to the end sad.
