Do you believe in magic? Maia and her friends do! And when they meet the Star Animals, a whole world of magical adventure unfolds.
The Star Friends still don’t know who is using the woodland plants to create dark magic potions. Could it be the grumpy new school secretary? Meanwhile, Lottie’s friend Essie is being mean at school, and none of the adults want to go to work! The girls must combine their powers to unmask the potion-maker – and defeat them once and for all.

This magical series for young readers continues to grow on me as the characters are developed more fully. In this, the sixth title in the series, the four Star Friends--Mia, Lexi, Violet and Sita--continue to combat evil with help from their Star Animals. Readers will enjoy trying to figure out who is responsible for the Dark Magic that seems to be causing the youngsters' parents to behave in such odd ways. Although I suspected the evildoer from the start, her reasons for behaving as she does may surprise the book's readers. The illustrations for this book are just as charming as those in the previous books, and allow readers to imagine living in such a magical world with ease.
So much ew. 10 year olds wearing make up and being mean girls. My daughter's we not entertained my this and I really wanted to just throw it out. But it's a library book. So much better literature for young girls to be reading. Very disappointed.
I liked the book On all of the previous series' books I've put five stars Here I put four and here's why I loved the book as much as the others Although here the stories and plots and everything started getting a bit too repetitive and each book started being more alike to the previous ones I think the series should have ended with this book because no more plot and info about each thing needs to be analyzed over again and again so I believe the books from here to book 12 are only for marketing reasons and have no reason to exist I would have put five if I had read a nice ending here as a kid!
Another brilliant little instalment in the Star Friends series. My seven year old daughter is loving reading these, and trying to work out who is doing the dark magic every time. This one had some lovely little unexpected surprises, even if the main plot was pretty obvious. A great little series.
Such a fun book. Loved seeing how the girls figure out the mystery and deal with the villain. Didn't really see the backstory going the way it did. Was pleasantly surprised.
My kids are obsessed with these books. Obsessed. After finishing Night Shade, we jumped straight into this one. This book picks up where the previous one left off, the girls are still trying to figure out who is making potions with dark magic. The villain here was kind of a surprise, and her motives were a little odd, but we it was extremely fun to read this one with them. Again, these books really are very fun and absolutely have my kids totally engaged and constantly trying to figure out the twists and postulating the best ideas about what is going on.
