If I could give a book 10 stars, this would be a 10-star book. It is likely that this worked so well for me bc I am in the trenches of building a dynamic culture. I turned down pages, highlighted so many lines, extracted quotes for my post it wall . . . Just ate this one up. Like other books by Matthew Kelly, this will become a reference and shared text.
This book definitely has some great points and really highlights what it takes to my a dynamic culture. The reason for 3 stars is due to the repetitiveness and the length. In my opinion, the book could have been drastically reduced and given more examples of how to put the ideas into motion for a company/leader.
The book makes some good points, but it could have been a short blog post instead. I would have liked more examples of the process to get organizations from where they are to where they could be, and fewer advertisements for the author's consulting services.
Mark Kelly has written the quintessential organizational culture manual for organizations seeking to turn themselves around. This empowerment is broken down to a disciplined and focused approach to leaderhsip and amangement. He sets forth six immutable principles: prioritizing culture; missions is king; over-communicate the plan; hire with rigorous discipline; let people know what is expected' and, grow your people by creating a coaching culture. He also stresses company awareness, humility, coaching, proactively, accountability, and objective evaluation. Finally, the author speaks of the successes and rebirths of organizations that have embraced a new culture.
His writing style incorporates a smooth and flowing narrative and emphasizes the importance of a positive company culture and how it compliments an efficient strategy. I highly recommend this management book.
Though I am not always one to gravitate toward this genre of book, I appreciated it as a summer professional development text. Every suggestion Kelly makes about how to create a dynamic, healthy culture that makes workers want to be the best version of themselves is practical, applicable, and realistic to implement.
A great book for anyone who wants to revive/renew/or create from scratch a healthy culture in their organization. I gave it three stars just because the book could have been shorter, some of the things were repeated too often and it can be tiring. Otherwise, the content is a 5 *****
Great book! Very practical strategies for creating a dynamic culture, regardless of the role you have in any organization. It validated many of my beliefs and experiences yet broaden my perspective as well. Highly recommend, especially to new leaders!
Just an overall good book to remind people how important it is to continuously work on being a better version of yourself and how important culture is.
Excellent book for leaders and regular people. Discusses the necessity for a dynamic culture as well as practical steps to work towards a dynamic culture.
Good recommendation from a leader at work! It was a bit long but definitely had some practical takeaways for cultivating a healthy culture and understanding what culture is and isn’t
DNF. There were some good tidbits but the way the author was talking to the reader annoyed me too much to finish. I also thought it was way too drawn out. Not worth my time finishing.
In The Culture Solution author Matthew Kelly describes the characteristics of a dynamic culture and six principles to gain and maintain said culture. Kelly is a very accessible writer, and is almost conversational in his approach. He also restates his themes multiple times, which reminds me more of hearing a conference presenter than reading a book, but it is effective for the topic. He also makes it a priority not just to address managers but the entire workplace staff. I found this most helpful, as in my non-leadership work role I could still apply the principles to moving toward a dynamic culture. Kelly practices tough love in his consulting work, and the way he talks about hiring and firing is sobering to say the least. However, overall the book was easy to read and easy to start applying.
Already being part of a company with a vibrant Culture, I found great alignment in The Culture Solution to our principles and practices. If you are looking to bring more culture in/boost morale to your team/company/department - the book will struck a chord. It's very on point for managing people/organizations in todays environment - challenges of millennials, and other workplace issues. If you struggle with hiring - specifics on good hiring practices and putting a program in place (aka Career Visioning/KW). Highly recommend.
I was very impressed with this book. It has so many good ideas for how to run business business well. If I ever had a business with employees I would make sure to re-read this first and incorporate as many principles as I could. Business owners do your company a favor and follow the advice in this book!
Lays out the framework for creating cultures that are capable of accomplishing challenging and transformative missions, and there is no mission greater than saving souls and making saints!
Matthew does a great job of simply laying out the way to dramatically improve your culture. The practical steps in this book will have a huge impact that will not only improve the culture, but will increase the success of the business.
