It turns out I have residents in the castle dungeons. They’re pretty helpful and we get along famously. I think I’m going to like having them around.
I’m still trapped inside my own body with these idiot monsters, but there’s good news. Dr. Fleming Heilsong heard about my search for a cure through a colleague and contacted me to offer his help. I can’t lie, this whole thing makes me nervous. I don’t want to die but the werepireism grows stronger every day. I’m fighting for my life – my very soul. Some days I think I’ll lose it altogether and so does Teddy.
How much longer can I hold on? Or will the monsters take control?
Amanda Byrd is obsessed with fictional serial killers. From Patrick Bateman to Dr. Hannibal Lecter to Dexter Morgan and every butcher in between, Amanda loves figuring out what drives fiction’s deadliest monsters. When she’s not busy writing, Amanda can be found reading, playing video games, or watching shows and movies like Mindhunter, Hannibal, and Dexter. She lives in Florida with her bloodthirsty, flesh-eating cat.
I think I will forever be calling coffee "bean juice" after reading the series... Miranda the werepire is back in the second installment to the Dr. van Wolfe series. With the addition of some new characters She searches for a cure for her werepirism before the human side of her disappears forever. Once again I I'm going to say that the dialogue between the three main characters inside Miranda's head is very disorienting and extremely hard to follow as it is all written in italics. I don't really know how the author would get around this but I would definitely suggest a revision to make this a little easier on the reader to understand what is being said and by whom. Byrd really kicks it up a notch with this second installment to the series. I was delighted to find a lot more goings-on and a lot more action in this book then in the first. Again the book seamlessly runs into the next book without any bumps along the way. I am looking forward to seeing what Byrd has in-store for Miranda in the third and final installment. I would recommend this book as a part of a series but not as a standalone.
The Dr. van Wolf saga is a blood-drenched excursion into a horrorscape that resembles our own reality (on the surface, anyway). It is over-the-top escapism, populated by mystical creatures pulled from all manner of lore, and is made very relatable by a realistically flawed antihero who could be your bestie, if your bestie was a raging werepire.
Dr. Miranda van Wolfe, a psychologist with her own practice in Florida, loves bean juice, cats, and her car. And violence, and torture, and ripping the still beating hearts out of her victims...
You get the point. This book is definitely worth the guilty pleasure of indulging, especially if you have little free time (both installments thus far are pretty short), and love fantasy and horror. I've read both Moratorium and Trapped, and I can't wait to see how Miranda's predicament develops in the next book!
The story of Miranda just keeps getting better and better. I really enjoyed this book and the author’s writing style, plus the addition of new fun characters. You will laugh and you will cringe but you won’t be able to put it down wondering what’s going to happen next.
I like the idea behind this book but I feel this to be a little confusing and slapdash. Half the time I wasn't sure who was talking in the dialogues. Could maybe do with some revision at some point.
