Lily soon finds out that going on a school camping trip comes with more than a few challenges. Bunking with an eclectic bunch of girls, hiking chop-busting trails, figuring out her crush’s mixed signals... Even the toughest Girl Guide might wish she’d stayed home, doing her toenails and eating cupcakes. To make matters worse, just when Lily thought she’d seen through all its lies once and for all, her tormentor is back with a vengeance. Surely, she thinks, it’s time to find a way to get rid of this bully for good.More about the 'Beautiful Series'.Teenager Lily gets a lot of messages about what it means to be a successful and desirable woman in today's world. But her biggest problem is the voice in her own head. How does she beat that one?A graphic novel for ages 8 and up. A humorous series that’s great for young girls, as well as women, educators and therapists. Deals with self-esteem, identity issues and spirituality.
MARIE D'ABREO is a graphic novelist. She is author and illustrator of:
Beautiful Book One: A Girl's Trip Through the Looking Glass Beautiful Book Two: Living with the Frenemy Beautiful Book Three: Game of Crones Lost in Guyville Sky Orb
Marie grew up in Worthing, a seaside town in England. She has a B.F.A. from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and now resides in San Francisco, California.
This one worked much better than the first. The frenemy is still there but not as all consuming and the story focuses on how to talk about anxiety and the benefits of sharing. Jake was still there but being liked by a boy wasn't as important as friendship and solidarity. By talking about her fears she learned that she's not alone and that some of her assumptions about others are wrong ....
Having given a full review for the first book of this series, I’m going to make it brief, or try to, unsuccessfully, lol, It’s Lily again and this time we get to see her at School, which serves as a indication of her age, which I wasn’t completely sure of in book one. There certainly is much more to read in this one, which doesn’t bother me.
As with the first, we have interesting dialogues running throughout this one, I enjoyed this book more than book 1, I can most certainly see a successful cartoon made out of book 2.
I’m nearly halfway through and now see this can be enjoyable to both sexes while the first book, to a few... Lily is stronger, more self assured and positive in this one, which I guess is better for younger readers... Lily’s Introspective personality is totally necessary and adorable, with the quotations that come in between the pages blending nicely with it... This book is faultless, the writer has dramatically improved and developed, I can see she took the criticism she got from reviewers of the preceding book onboard and humbly made the changes necessary to make this just right... The book ends blissfully and on a positive note, as someone who can relate to this character, I must say the conclusion for the solution to treating demons is the best option in my experience, this book can heal a lot of people, I really mean that... Thank You (to the author)... The answer to true beauty can easily be traced if you read between the clear lines here...WARNING:Spoiler!!! look away here... review done...
##################### It’s Total Self acceptance... ##################### I’m curious as to where the writer will take it with the next book, this seems like the perfect conclusion to me...
Lily was going on a camping trip with her friends hoping to impress her crush. As always, Lily worries about her outer beauty and tries to focus on the inner beauty. She constantly compares herself to the other girls.
Nice illustrations, although there was too much text describing all the other campmates. Best to show, not tell.
Easy and fun. A good read about learning to accept what is and let it be.
This felt a little unsubtle at first, but as the story went on, I really appreciated the depiction of the character’s anxiety and the gentle realisations she made.
