Do you want to learn a language but literally have no idea where to start with that?? THIS IS THAT BOOK THAT CAN HELP.

I've watched Ikenna Obi on YouTube, which is where I originally found this ebook suggested to me. And I gotta say, after a few years of just plain ol' procrastinating, his fresh and humorous take on language-learning actually kindled my interest to try again...for real this time.

Here is a link to his YouTube channel, if you're interested!

(it's very good, full of hilarity, and really amazing tips--seriously, even if you don't want to learn another language, he's also an entertaining guy who knows how to make good YouTube videos too)

I don't know why, but it was so encouraging to read this book. It's kind of reassuring to hear from another American's perspective of growing up in a mostly "monolingual" home (English) about him, one day deciding to try to learn another language, and being honest about how hard that was for him at first before he found a method to break through that tough wall a bit.

I'm currently learning Español (more so Latin American than Castilian, since I'm Floridian) and it's been a lot more fun and rewarding to learn it the way this book suggests. Already, I understand more in my first couple of weeks than I did a whole year in school! That's saying something!

I did Duolingo for a very long time learning Italian a little while back (since my family immigrated from Sicily a while ago, and I couldn't find "Sicilian" in Duolingo, so Italian was the closest thing) and I learned a lot of vocab and (while I didn't mean to) started to understand the basic grammatical sentence structuring just by looking at it all day. It was helpful, but it was only a mini launch pad that wasn't taking me much further than that. To this day, I can understand a little bit but struggle actually formulating what I mean.

So, this book had a new suggestion that I honestly hadn't heard of trying before. Woe to me, I actually thought the only way I could learn a language was by years of in-school training. Turns out! you can learn it through watching TV and flashcards and other way more fun stuff. You know what I mean?

Basically, reading this book, it sounded very much like Ikenna cared to help people learn languages, so it contains lots of good tips, honest feedback, discounts for programs that only he can provide, and a neat system for learning that's simple and not overly-complicated. It's not a book for money's sake, which is really nice.

And I, being from the States, where arguably I should have many resources all around me that I can listen to and learn from...and people from all over the world being my literal neighbors (like Russia, Mexico, etc.), I really should've learned something but didn't. I don't know; I don't want to be another dumb American cliché. I would love to be bilingual! It isn't that I don't have the capacity or understanding to learn, I just have to step outside of my English-speaking comfort zone.

So, anyway. Keeping myself accountable, here am I trying to learn Spanish in 2019! 🤞

THE MOST HONEST OPINION.
Really is a 2-3 stars book. But I have been seen that some people is creating accounts just to rate with 5 stars this books, it's so obvious because they just rate this book, also it's funny.

I love Ikenna videos and I like him a lot like a Youtuber but I will be honest with my review.

I'm learning English, that's only why I finished this book. The first 20% of the book he talks about how he learned his 6 lenguages, the last 25% is just to make longer the book, and the rest say this:
Buy Pimsleur, after that Assimmil, then go to Glossika oh and after you go to the country where people talk your target lenguage or pay in Italki for teachers.

I'm not happy with this, because he is selling the book 'Fluency Made Easy (Fun, Fast and Easy)' like a "method" but it's selling nothing, or at least I knew almost everything in this book.

I only will recommend you to read this book if you are in one of these two situations:
1) You know nothing about learning lenguages and you don't like to see videos about that, because all of this book is in YouTube videos (not only in his chanel).
2) You want to read an easy and short book in english.

Of course this is my personal opinion, I don't think that will be worth it to read or buy this book if you're not in one of those situations, peace. (:

I cannot believe this e-book is almost 40 euros at full price. It's poorly written and it's basically stating the obvious: hey, if you aim at becoming conversational in a language use language programs such as Primsleur or Assimil and try to expose yourself to all sorts of media in your target language as much as possible, such as movies, books, and music (duh). That's basically it. Don't expect any kind of big revelation from this book...it's just presenting a language learning method you are probably already using. I'm so disappointed.

Well my experience with this book didn't end yet because it will only end once I finish testing the method which I am doing.

But, I will tell my review of the book itself now, the book is short which is good because as It teaches a method It has to be concise and It is, I can't tell about the content because it is pretty much the method.

The downside is the unnecessary marketing in the book that made me lose part of the reliance I had on the method because It made me think whether it was a real book I had to pay for or a blog free e-book, it also made me think if the method is real or a way for the author to get my money out of a "solution" just like coaches do.

Hence, a book meant to be 4 rated became 3 because of the lack of confidence on the method it created.

I will not be rating this for the moment. I would like to put in practice what it says and see how useful it might be.

I came across Ikenna's YouTube channel not long ago, just a couple of weeks actually. I saw he wrote a book about his language learning method and was curious, so I read it. It's not bad, but it has several issues and several good points as well. He basically explains everything he says in this super short book, more like essay, in this video, although there some more details in the ebook.

First of all, it's insanely expensive. It costs 40 US dollars, when many more extensive books cost less than half of that. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it now that I know the content, because it certainly is not worth that much, considering most of it is available for free on that YouTube video I mentioned. Besides, I found it very amateur-ish; it is obvious Ikenna sat down to write this on his notebook, pouring the method he uses on these pages and then designed a decent cover, put a little format to the text, titles and such, and put it online for 40 bucks. There are grammatical and punctuation mistakes, some of them repeated several times, the ideas are expressed in a very basic language level, and sometimes I got the feeling he was trying to use big words on purpose to sound more professional or something. There's no revision, proper edition or things like that because as you can see, this is a homemade ebook. He did write a short book after all and that's a great accomplishment, so I don't intend to discourage people from reading it, and I'm sure it will help many people to find some order in their language learning journeys, but I'm just pointing these things out so that you are aware of what to expect. Ikenna is an enthusiast language learner who shared his piece of advice and that's admirable, however sloppy were the results.

Now, about the content. I must say it intrigued me and I really want to test his method to see how much it works for me. One thing that I really liked about the things he says is the specificity of it. He doesn't throw many different options of language programs, textbooks, etc. and let you choose, which more often than not is very overwhelming, but instead he recommends specific programs in a specific order. He says do this, then this, and this, just like I tell you.

He proposes 3 phases for any language: Input, Output and Refinement. For the Input phase, he recommends using Pimsleur (first 60 lessons), then Assimil, and finally Glossika to reach a ~B1 level by absorbing lots of content, specially audio, in your target language. That regarding actually sitting down to study and revise. At the same time, watch lots of fun content like YouTube videos, TV series, films using subtitles in your native language.

One thing that I didn't really like about this part is how much he emphasizes that he only studies for 30-60 minutes a day, when that doesn't seem right. He uses that time to listen to the audio lessons I mentioned above, but besides that, he has to spend time writing down vocabulary he gets from watching TV shows (and that's without counting the watching time itself), making flashcards, practicing the language out loud (he recommends talking to yourself to practice, which I think is great) and even if those seem like small tasks, they do take time and effort and add up.

Output: Basically get a language tutor (he recommends the website https://www.italki.com/ for that) and start speaking your language with native speakers. Besides speaking, which is the main focus, you should also write and text in that language if that's what works for you.

Now, the Refinement phase was the one that most interested me, because I'm a B2 Italian speaker and I have been wanting to perfect my Italian for a long while but I never seem to get to it, and it was a very big disappointment. He just says that you should continue learning the language with more textbooks heavy in grammar, vocabulary, get a professional teacher, the obvious stuff. All the specificity that I loved about Input and Output was gone by the Refinement phase. He justifies this saying that every language will require different resources in order to reach an advanced level, which of course it's a very sensible point, but I got used to the specific recommendations and I guess my expectations were higher for this part.

Anyway, it motivated me enough to finally continue studying Italian once and for all, even if I will not be using his method, but I will certainly save it for later when I decide to learn some other language.

I've gone through MANY language methods that left me bored over time. This book is different because Ikenna gives you a DETAILED TIMELINE on where you should be once you finish certain courses. This is huge because it sets a realistic bar and expectation for you to reach each stage of learning. Let's be honest, we all have this fantasy that we're going to study one method and we'll be fluent. In many cases, it doesn't happen for the average person. Ikenna categorizes our learning stages to make us understand where you stand and where you should be striving for in the future. To me, that is the difference in this book as opposed to others.

I feel like I've found my break-thru moment in my target language when reading this book. Need I say more? Get this book!!

I enjoyed reading this. I’ve watched a few of his videos and it inspired and motivated me to read his book. I’ve always wanted to learn Italian and Spanish. But Italian was never offered at my high school and I wasn’t interested in Spanish at the time. I just got a new job which has a high Spanish speaking population. And this summer I am receiving my Italian Dual Citizenship. So I definitely have a reason and drive to want to learn both. Even though he suggests not to learn both at the same time. I’m gonna try anyways focusing more on Spanish at least for the first 6 months of learning. I def want to try and look forward into using his recommended resources.

Sure, this book had some information on which sites were best for language learning, but that’s it for me. I feel I have already heard most these tips on TedTalks. I’m so very happy I didn’t pay for this ( would never anyways), this book was 40 bucks. As much as I liked the author, this was just not it.

Puntos a recordar:

First of all, I loved Ikenna Obi's book "Fluency Made Easy"!

I've always loved French (and I took it during schooling for years, but... you all who went through the same thing for years in school only to get out but not really know how to converse know the story).

So trying to pick it up again has been a bit of a struggle as Ikenna mentions in the book: not knowing where/how to do it effectively and efficiently, and keep it going (and also life getting in the way, procrastination, asking myself what good will it really do learning the languages, except for for fun, talking myself out of it, etc.).

Finding "Fluency Made Easy" REINSPIRED and REINVIGORATED me to want to learn to be conversationally fluent in French and I'm challenging myself to do it in 6 months time (by 30-Jan-2021; I'm currently 2 weeks in). And then from there keep going with the others (not sure which language next, though).

I really appreciate the way Ikenna has laid out step-by-step his method in a simple to follow format and I'm excited to keep going on this journey of fun language learning for years to come.

So thanks so much for the book and the system you laid out, Ikenna.

Hands down the best book for anyone new to language learning!

I've recommended it to all my language partners, and bought a copy for my brother. It maps out everything in explicit detail to get you from absolute beginner to about B1/B2 level in any language, AND it tells you exactly how long to expect to reach fluency for each language (usually around 3-6 months per language, depending).
I've adjusted a couple of his methods/recommendations to fit my schedule/learning style, but other than that I follow his advice almost to the T. Over the last 12 months I've got my Spanish back up to speed, finally reached upper B level in German, and I'm approaching B level in both Italian & Hebrew. I figure I've saved easily 1-2 years of trial & error by reading this.

I 100% recommend giving this book a read if you're still on your 1st or 2nd foreign language.

I have read the entire book. It was very inspirational. I have already started my input stage and have never felt this confident about learning a language before. It’s even more fun as well. I get excited to learn something new each day and I don’t feel burned out. I am currently learning French. At first I was intimidated by the accent and if I would actually retain anything, but using the tips from the book and even some from his YouTube videos, I am able to stay focused and stay optimistic. Honestly can’t wait to see where I am in a month!

Those that are skeptics or rated the book low seem to also expect that the book is going to download your target language into your head overnight. It’s a great method that is actually working for me when others failed.

Super easy read and really digestable!

I think Ikenna does a good job of breaking down what we [should] already know and explain it in a way that none of us can (hence why we are reading the book). If you're looking for something totally new and profound, you won't find it here, BUT if you go into this book eager and excited about the prospect of learning a language, I believe you will find this book very helpful and practical. The book is now about $20USD which I think is good compared to what else you find out there.
I really enjoy this method and am on my way to language fluency thanks to it! Would recommend.

This book is an absolute must for anyone who is brand new to language learning or even those who are looking to pick up additional languages! It is an easy read, well-written, interesting and motivating. Ikenna does a great job in connecting with his audience though effectively telling his own story and sharing his own struggles in a way that anyone new to language learning can relate to. I’m only a month into my first target language but this book has served and will continue to serve as my guide and motivation when I need it!

This book is amazing, very helpful in setting goals to learn a new language in a realistic time frame. Ikenna gives information on websites that are not the everyday sites that pop-up in your search for Spanish lessons. I enjoyed the website Assimil. I am going to purchase the Pimsleur program because the lessons are great and the activities are exciting while reinforcing the lesson. I am about to start my 6 months Spanish speaking journey following the methods in Fluency Made Easy. Ikenna thank you for writing the book.

I thought it was an amazing read. You pretty much hit the nail on the head in regards to how many people approach learning a new language and the same was for me. I have been studying Korean on and off for about 6 years now and I have learned more with Pimsleur in the last 6 lessons than I have trying to teach myself. I recommended your book to all of my friends who are trying to learn another language. I saw that it is what the Marine Corps uses to teach Marines a new language and that was surprising to me because I'm in the Marine Corps.

I would highly recommend to anyone who is just starting a language learning journey, or to someone who is discouraged by their lack of progress. I was the latter when I found FME. It really encouraged me to not give up on the goals I had set, and provided me with valuable information that’s hard to come by if you aren’t looking in the right places. I’ll have to come back and edit this after trying the FME method, but so far I am extremely satisfied.

I have read FME all the way through and have this to say about it. I've been wanting to learn a new language for a while now. I'm still not totally sure why, so I'm just going to say I wanted to see if I could do it. But I had a lot of questions and uncertainties. I can say without a doubt that FME answered all of them and gave me the confidence to take the first step and I am currently a few days into Pimsleur.

In this book Ikenna teaches its language learning method: the FME method.

The book is short and simple, straight to the point. It basically explains how the method works (Input, Output and Refinement phases) and which kind of books, courses and media should you use during your language learning process.

I would recommend it for anyone that's looking for a short guide on how to learn a languague, especially if you like learning through organic methods such as youtube, series and podcasts.

Excellent, educational and entertaining read. I liked that being about to have it in an e-book version meant that I could read it straight away.

The information that is held within this book is an example of how powerful a persons subconscious is regardless of how powerful someone's brain power is.

Meaning that you recall the information that you are trying to learn instead of so called memorising it.

Let's see, I like Ikenna's videos, and I'm even waiting for his new app, but the book could have been summarized in fewer pages; yes, there are interesting suggestions and recommendations for particular products or apps that can help you achieve language learning more straightforwardly. However, this worked for him; you should consider that the book is based on his experience.

Do you think it will work for you or me? We'll have to find out.

Also I’ve made some serious progress with my language so I’m really happy!

A really helpful and motivating book! Ikenna gives you a strong foundation on what to look for when pursuing a new language, with room for you to adapt it to the specific language you're learning. For me, that's Japanese. I know I'll take Ikenna's advice and lessons into my language learning journey, while also utilising other Japanese-specific resources to bolster my learning. Arigato~ <3
