When fake romance meets real chemistry, there's nothing to do but fall in love
Ainsley-With-The-Attitude has learned how to take care of himself the tough way. The former high school fat-shamed kid has developed into a beautiful swan...one who struts the runway as both male and female. For the first time in almost four years, Ainsley is on his way back home to spend Christmas with his family, but everything starts going downhill when he gets dumped just before Christmas.
When Ainsley eavesdrops on the conversation of a plain-looking man at the airport and learns he is in the same predicament, he decides they can scratch each other's backs. Until he realizes there’s a lot more he wants to be scratched...
Will’s too old for all this technology. He should have known he would be catfished the one attempt he makes to date online. Lucky for him, he doesn’t have to feel embarrassed when the boyfriend he bragged about doesn't show up for Christmas. Because he’s got a hotter, more beautiful pretend boyfriend that suits his needs just fine to get his family off his back. But Ainsley’s too cute, too sassy, and with ASSets Will can’t keep his hands off.
As the two meet each other's families under the pretext of a fake relationship, will Ainsley allow Will to unwrap the layers covering his heart? Or will his disagreement with his family drive him to protect his heart from Will's love?
Unwrapping Ainsley is a 50k+ novel featuring age-gap. It is the first book in the new Project Runway series.

This is a rather ridiculous story and not because of insta-love, I was expecting that and it comes across as believable. But the plot is very strange to me and just doesn't feel good. There are beautiful and also tragically beautiful aspects here and it would have been nice if these had been given a bit more depth. The characters would have deserved it. I think Ainsley and Willy deserved more. So the idea and concept of the book are wonderful, it's just the execution that didn't work well for me. The second half of the book is definitely better than the first. However, it still lacks the right depth. Ainsley's parents are real jerks
“It’s plain to see who’s the woman in this relationship,” his dad had quipped. “If he wants to dress like a girl then he should play the part. Cooking is a woman’s job.” 😡😡😡
and their behavior is somehow what ended up sticking for me, even though it should have been the love story between the MCs ending up lingering in my head. But at least Willy saved the day in the end.
“Your battles are mine to fight,” I told him. “I’m not going to let people treat you like crap and look the other way. Not on my watch. You just needed to say the word tonight, and I would have whisked you away.” “Like a fairy godmother?” “No, like your fucking Prince Charming.” 💗💗💗
Re-read November 2020 It's (almost) that time of year again.

Now this was cute!
Ainsley was bullied quite a lot as a teen. Not only because he was gay, but because he was a bit overweight and because he was kind of a doormat too.
He hasn’t been home in 4 years, but he promised his family he’d be home for Christmas this year. He’s really bummed that he’s not bringing his fiancé since they broke up, but he can’t really conjure up a man out of thin air, so he will just have to go alone.
When he overhears a man at the airport who seems to be having the exact same problem, he approaches the man.
Will was supposed to bring home a man he met online, but apparently he’s been stood up. He could have guessed since he’d never even met the man, but he was sure they had a connection.
When he gets approached by a young man in high heels, he is sure the man is insane. He is suggesting they be each other’s boyfriend this Christmas since they don’t want to go home alone.
Will finally agrees because he’s kind of intrigued by the much younger man, and Will doesn’t want his mother to invite a bunch of gay men to meet him like she did last year.
What neither man expected though was how well they would fit together. What started out as a fake relationship soon becomes very real…
This was really cute!
I always love an age-gap story, and I was glad it didn’t seem to be a big issue here. Ainsley was a cute long-haired androgynous model, who thought Will was a bit plain at first sight. And Will was sure Ainsley was a drama queen. But what I really liked was how these guys had incredible chemistry from the start. They just seem to belong together, even though they weren’t even each other’s type at first.
I loved how neither man treated the other one as hookup. The transition from fake to real boyfriends went quite smoothly.
And I’m also a real sucker for a warm loving family taking in the new boyfriend and making him feel at home. Will’s parents were just great and they accepted Ainsley without question.
This had insta-love and the fake boyfriend trope going on. I thought, YES! two things I enjoy in my books. What could go wrong? So much, apparently. It should be stated that I like those two things when they are done right. Unfortunately, it was not the case for this one.
The positive was Will's family was nice and the 2nd half of this book is slightly better than the first. I will leave it at that...on to the next.
I enjoyed this even if it was very improbable that Ainsley and Will would have ever gotten together. Ainsley is this androgynous model who picks up Will in an airport. Will is a stodgy vet who has hardly dated since his husband died 5 years earlier. But somehow it worked. The story was fun and the sex hot.
3.5 stars This was a sweet and not too angsty, opposite-attracts romance. The insta-love was fairly believable and the characters together were fun. This didn’t reinvent the wheel in terms of the “meet the folks” drama but was enjoyable for a between-books read.
What a fantastic romance! A fake relationship with a may/december theme and two men who seem complete opposites but are perfect for each other. As soon as I started reading, I was drawn into Ainsley and Will's relationship woes and how each could offer something up to the other. Ainsley is full of sass and snark but it covers a beautiful heart that has been hurt a lot in the past. Will is a solid and dependable guy with the best parents, they bring a proper family Christmas feel to the story and their home. Ainsley's character is an androgynous model, modelling both male and female roles. He's such a well written character. There's amazing support for him from several of the characters in the story and one of two trying to bring him down about it. I highly recommend this read! Especially love Cotton, he sounds so cute! :-)
3.5 Stars I am a super fan of pretending dating plots and here I get an opposites attract at Christmas time. Woo hoo!
I love Ainsley and Will together. We get lots of holiday fun. I like how they talk about their feelings and what they are doing in terms of their relationship. I also thought the discussion of the complications of preferences during sex was well done.
There is a little extra over the top angst here and there but not enough to district for the very good love story.
Holiday M/M romance, older/younger, opposites attract, distance issues. Each man is in the same predicament, their fake boyfriends didn't show up for Christmas with their parents, so, they make a deal. Ainsley will go to Willy's folks, and Willy is going to accompany Ainsley to his parents. Not everything is perfect though. * Ainsley, mid 20s, a model, long hair, lanky, tattooed and pierced. pushy and proud, lively and uninhibited. * Will/Willy, 39, dark hair, scruff, strong solid, a Veterinarian who lost his husband 4 years ago. He'd never had a chance to be truly sexual and free before, but now, it's this man who makes him feel lusty and excited.
These two have a deep attraction, neither has ever been interested in that type before, but it's frank talk, bold, open, and the personalities are the pull. We learn about pasts and get to know them.
Ainsley may be leaving sooner than expected, because his agent got him a Paris runway job and more. Ainsley find that he'd rather stay with Willy. Meanwhile they enjoy every minute together, and their sexy times are hot.
Yes, there were grammar and word mistakes, but I liked the fantasy tale for the holidays.
"Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light." ~Albert Schweitzer
It’s Christmas time and Will, of ‘Unwrapping Ainsley’ by Gianni Holmes, is waiting at the airport for a date for the holidays who never shows up. Will met the guy online and they’ve been talking for months. Unfortunately, even after sending him a plane ticket, he stands Will up. Understandably, Will is distraught and hurt. He calls his sister to explain what happened and asks that she not tell their parents. Last year, his mother tried to fix him up with every single gay man in town; he was hoping to avoid that this year.
Ainsley’s plane just arrived and he is waiting in the airport as well, wishing he had not worn high heels while traveling. Ainsley happens to be sitting next to Will and overhears his conversation with his sister. Will is not Ainsley’s type, but he feels sorry for him. He starts a conversation that begins with having to admit that he was eavesdropping. Ainsley suggests that he pose as Will’s boyfriend and in turn, Will do the same when they go see Ainsley’s parents. Will thinks he’s crazy at first. From the way Ainsley is dressed and his attitude, there’s no way that his parents are going to believe that Ainsley is his boyfriend – but he is desperate, so he agrees to the scheme. Ainsley dreads seeing his parents. He is gay and is an androgynist model, neither of which his parents approve of. He hopes that having a super macho acting guy like Will with him will help ease some of the animosity he receives when he visits them.
Will’s family is just the opposite of Ainsley’s. They are warm, loving, and open. Will has been a widower or four years and his parents have been worried about him being lonely. His mom is so happy to see Will with someone that, in spite of Ainsley’s obvious eccentricities, she welcomes him with open arms and insists that they stay there with them. Pretending to be together for a few hours at a time wouldn’t be difficult, but being with Will’s family all the time is a different matter. Ainsley is overwhelmed by all the love and attention that he experiences with Will’s family. He doesn’t know quite how to act; being in a place where he feels respected and safe causes the mask that he usually wears to slip; his true feelings that he has been hiding for so long surfaces. Even more unexpected is that Ainsley and Will begin to realize that their fake relationship is growing to be more real than they anticipated. As they get to know and appreciate each other’s differences, they begin to realize that they have a lot more in common than they first thought, particularly their need for love and acceptance.
This story involves insta-love, but when it’s right, it’s right. Ainsley and Will are an interesting couple: Ainsley is as outrageous as Will is “normal”, but in their heart of hearts, there is a longing that neither can deny. Getting to know each other involves a lot of physical interaction and they are hot, hot, together! Thanks, Gianni, for the steamy Christmas tale.

Do you like craziness and fast paced romance under your Christmas tree? Then Unwrap Ainsley and all his goofiness as he sets Will's heart afire and they both learn to true meaning of the unexpected love.
This was Mills and Boon in an epic proportion. And yes, I have pretty much dated myself, but who cares when this lovely gift is handed to you on a silver platter. I am so glad the author did not change his name, because Ainsley was like said name; unique, sweet, funny and just someone deserving of all the cuddles. Meeting Will when they both needed help over the holidays was like kismet. Had it not been for a dying phone, eavesdropping on a private conversation and taking a chance on a stranger, both men would have missed the opportunity and gone through life aimlessly looking for that special something.
I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for an Ainsley and Will update. These two were sweet on each other from jump and proved that no matter how short the time, you can fall for another person within a blink of an eye. "It only takes a spark,' a childhood song states. I am sure I will be pulling this little gem out again to rediscover the utter joy and delight that is Will and Ainsley.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure what to think. The more I read, I was pulled in by the ups and downs of the story, and before I knew it, it was over. I don’t really read holiday romances but this one was beautifully done.
In the beginning of the book, I felt bad for Ainsley because it was clear that his life hadn’t been an easy one. He had been used, neglected, and all he wanted was to find love. He went through a huge character growth going from that type of character to someone strong and in control of his life.
When Will eavesdrops on Ainsley’s conversation home, there is so much chemistry between the two characters, and I love how the author only managed to make this more so throughout the book.
Dnf 7% like I said in my update, the prologue and the first 2 pages put me off the story. I tried to keep reading but I couldn't get past through it. How come no one mentioned the prologue to warn readers? Ainsly is so fucking stupid to leave!!!! 5 years ago when he was in school he let some closeted asshole jock using him to do his homework, for blow jobs, to fuck him in the Janitor's closet and even let him took his virginity !!! That Joey guy even told him he was always the one on the receiving end of the blow jobs and topping. He lied to his bff about what he was doing with that asshole because he wouldn't listen to her when she'd warn him. 5 years later he still stupid as fuck .He also let his ex using him and let him fucking other guys cause all men fuck around all the time.It put me off the story. what the actual fuck? How someone can be so naive and blind?? it's beyond me. Him and Joey they were never friends, they never hang out together, heck he has always ignored him in public. They weren't even fuck buddies, Joey has never reciprocate, Ainsley was just holes (mouth and ass hole) to fuck, hard and so brutal. He didn't care that Ainsley was suffering and he dared thinking that bastard would end up loving him? Just No I can kind of understand why he let him using and abusing him but I can't condone this kind of behavior specially when Ainsley is still the same stupid doormat 5 years later after he's became a beautiful model and supposed to be more confident and strong.
This was one of those books that when RL interferes with your reading you get on with what has to be done, but with a large amount of mumbling under your breath... grrr! ;p
I loved everything about these MCs and felt for both of them for different reasons. And, of course, we must not forget about Cotton! *grin*
The story was well-written and I don't recall a single time I had to stop and go back to figure out a missing word or other types of grammatical errors!
Looking forward to seeing what happens with Sheldon/Brody in the free read coming on Christmas day and I hope to read more by this author in the coming year!
All the feels Ainsley is such a lovable bundle of energy. He has so much love to give but life seems to have robbed him of the chance to share it at every turn Will has chosen comfortable and it has always worked for him. Life has been good, nothing spectacular but reliable, familiar - like your favorite plaid shirt So what happens when a flannel-wearing good old boy meets a vibrant heel wearing city boy? Lot's of humor And all the feels!
I smiled and awwww'd and even shed a couple of tears with this couple. Just so many emotions. A wonderful fireside read Looking forward to the next in series
I liked the premise of the story and I love sweet holiday romances, age gap stories, fake relationship, and men comfortable enough in their skin to wear whatever they want so this should’ve been a no brainer for me. The thing was sometimes the writing was very good but other times is felt very juvenile. And there were some discrepancies, the biggest one to me was at the end when Will says ‘I’ve never heard you call me Will before.’ And literally when they went to meet Ainsley’s parents Will hated how subdued Ainsley was, commented that he was even only calling him Will instead of Willy.
So instead of killing it like I’d hoped, this one was just okay to me.
Great entertainment for me during my downtime on my trip. And coincidentally these guys meet at an airport.
Both Ainsley and Will were sweet characters and they become involved in a fake boyfriend trope. Both need a fake boyfriend to take home for the holidays. Ainsley's dumped him just before he flew home and Will was stood up at the airport by a guy he met over a dating app. Ainsley is bold enough to suggest they give each other a try when he overhears Will's conversation with his sister.
It is a warm, light-hearted, MM romance with a few good twists and turns and a lovely happy ending.
A sweet fake-boyfriends home-for-Christmas book with all the warm, fluffy feelings a holiday romance needs. I loved how different Ainsley and Will were, and I loved how different their families were as well. It was a great portrayal of two very different people and two very different types of families. I wanted to go home for Christmas with Will’s family, and I was really hoping someone would tell off Ainsley’s family. Even that was very low-angst, though, and the reader was left with a blossoming romance that puts a smile on your face.
Loved Will and his family but disliked Ainsley personality. I think he was kinda shallow, attentions seeker, sometime over the top and I hate his past not him as a fat-shamed kid but as Ainsley who lived an adventurous life with several ex boyfriends on his heels. His BJ's scene with Joey, his high school secret boyfriend was a major turn off and when he retold about his ex especially his porn star ex, he should knew better because from the start Cam wasn't good for him but he still together until Cam the one who broke up with him not the other way around.

This was absolutely fantastic and holiday perfect. I loved Ainsley and Will. They were such lovable characters, funny and multi-facited. I loved Ainsley's snarkiness and Will's steadfastness, their meeting was so meant to be. It's a great start to what looks to be another great series from Gianni Holmes, I can't wait to read the next one.
What a delightful fun sexy read. I really enjoyed this quick read. Loved Will and his amazing family. Ainsley was great and it was great fun watching them fall for each other.
Unwrapping Ainsley, The Runway Project book one by Gianni Homes. I absolutely loved Will & Ainsley. I want to read much more about them please! All the characters in this story are wonderful. I believe an entire series could be written about these two and the people around them.
What a happy and sexy Christmas romance. Ainsley and Will were so unexpected yet perfect for each other. This was a feel good meet cute happily ever after story, well done!
A favourite trope - fake boyfriends, side helping of insta-love, age gap, opposites attract, seasonal romance. Low angst, a little family drama, but Ainsley's zest and Will's calmness played off each other well and left me with a contented sigh - lots of fluff and sweet nonsense.
Unfortunately this didn’t work for me - whilst I’m not a massive fan of instalove there’s sweet and then there’s saccharine-sweet full of sex. I’m not sure all the characters actions were fully believable, but if you’re a fan of sugary-instant-action you’ll probably love it.
It was an ok story. Was a little confusing in the beginning for me as to who was who. Not on my top list of good reads but that’s just my opinion. The storyline with all the graphic details was not what I personally enjoy.
