Fiona Faris is an American author of authentic historical Medieval & Scottish romance books. She started writing historical highlander romance after she visited the Scottish Highlands years ago with her husband.
Her books have received startling reviews about the humor, the darkness and the romance they have.
She lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband and their two sons. Before she started writing romance, she experienced the various occupations: translator, dog-training, and a substitute English teacher for the most part of her life... However, nothing could ever compare to writing stories depicting the majestic and mysterious Scottish Highlands!
This one had me hooked from the very first few pages, as the female lead is finding out right away that her father is losing her while gambling (probably purposefully) to a hateful commander to get her married off. I found myself appalled and immediately sympathetic toward her and was at the edge of my seat waiting to see how she could escape this terrible situation. Meanwhile, our male lead watches a beloved family member get killed in battle, sustains a major injury himself, and ends up in hiding as he recovers, vowing vengeance on the killer. The two eventually have a run-in, find a mutual common factor they’re both dealing with, and find sparks flying right away, yet there are some issues that get in their way of a relationship. I ended up speed reading this book as soon as I started it because it just hooks you in and won’t let go with the constant action. The author does a great job with the world and character building. I felt like I was right there in the Scottish Highlands with the imagery. Lots of romance, some humor, and even makes a good thriller as the two face danger through a good bit of the book. Loved it and glad I stumbled onto this author’s work.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Healing the hearts of an English maiden and a Scottish Highlander
Ella finds that she is just a pawn to her father and facing marriage to a wicked and cruel military commander, vows to her sister Amelia that she will escape and not marry the man. Due to fate, Ella escapes from her father's trusted servant and the coachman and breaks free of her imprisonment in the disabled coach while the two of them look for help to repair the coach. After setting up the scene to look like she had been made off with into the opposite direction than she eventually left, she walked quite some distance before meeting an elderly farmer. The Scotsman noticing her condition and assuming a good meal wouldn't go amiss invited her to accompany him to his home to partake of the meal his wife was preparing for them. They invite her to stay the night, but apologize for not having anywhere in the house for her to sleep, make a pallet in the shed near the house and tell her to stay out of the barn. Awakened in the night by sounds of a human in pain, she discovers the wounded warrior in the barn. She searches for items to treat his wounds and fever using knowledge she remembers learning from her late mother who had been a healer. The Scotsman had been wounded in the battle that cost him the loss of his father's life and he vowed he'd kill the man that had struck his father down. He finds out from Ella that their nemesis is the same man and he decides the best protection for her, is to take her with him when they have to leave the farmstead in order to prevent harm to the elderly couple from the soldiers searching for Ella and any Scottish warriors. I recommend that you read the book and find out what happens to Ella, her Scottish Highlander and Commander Evans. This is quite the adventure for Ella and shows her that she 's stronger than her frail looking body made her believe that she could be. Two people that met in their dreams before ever laying eyes on the other - fated love 💘in all its glory.
ONE INCREDIBLE READ!!! Oh, man! Talk about a hard road to follow. This is one exciting, action packed, fast paced, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning wonder that's as riveting as it is captivating. In a whirlwind of emotions and events that transpire really pulls those heartstrings to the max. All the drama, frustration, heartache, uncertainty, nailbiting and a little suspense increases steadily while tension spirials as the plot thickens. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises that make for one incredible experience. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this little jewel together beautifully. Fiona did an amazing job bringing this read to life. Fantastic job Fiona, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Exciting & hot: a bold Scot plucks an English🌹 rose from a forced engagement with a real heel! December 26, 2018 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase 🏰 💕 A good, exciting plot with lots of action and 🔥passion set in a heroic and violent period of Scottish history. I also liked all of the characters (except, of course, for the obvious villains of the piece), which included a bevy of strong, opinionated women, but I wish the story had provided some detail on what ultimately happened with farmer Fergus and his wife.
The Scottish brogue takes some getting used to but eventually became easier. Grammar, typo and spelling errors ran throughout the story and dampened my enjoyment of the tale somewhat.
I received a review copy of this book from the author. I have read many of this author’s books and liked them all, but I have to say this book is my favourite to date. I absolutely loved it! The story swept me up in the very first chapter and kept me enthralled right until the very end. The story flows at a swift pace, pulling the hero and heroine from one adventure to another. The writing was spot-on, from the fierce, bloody battles to the tender, intimate moments and everything in between. The Scottish brogue added to the realistic feel of the story and wasn’t too much to hinder reading. The characters were all engaging and charming, and each one added depth to the plot and fit into the story nicely. The chemistry between the hero and the heroine was intense and heartfelt and I couldn’t help but cheer them on. Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting this book down - I was mesmerized! A fantastic story - I highly recommend it!
The tempo of the pace is moderate. It is easy to read and fun. There is excitement, action and adventure. The emotions of the characters are very realistic and true. The characters are well written with unforgettable personalities and traits. Our English Lady who is our heroine, is running from an unwanted marriage. Her father lost her in a bet to a cruel English commander. She escapes and runs away. She is taken in by a kindly elderly couple. She finds they are hiding a wounded highland warrior. Due to her kind nature she nurses him back to health. They get word that the commander is out hunting for her and will not stop hunting till he finds her. Our hero takes our heroine back to his keep. That's when more danger surrounds our heroine. An exciting tale of the English rose and the Highland Laird. I loved reading this book and I highly recommend it.
Fiona Faris has done it again.Again with a fantastic scottich romance...she is the reason i start to see scottich men in another eyes. Those red hair, green eyes and don't make me start with how they treat their women.Omg!I loved the love story of Ella and Lucas. It has it's funny time, sexy time, sad time.It was so good written and putten together that in 3 days i finnish it.I can't wait to see what else she can give and i wish the next book is with Milly. And i have to say:at first the scottich dialect i couldn't understand it but after i while i start to understand it and like it!I can't wait for the next project the author would have!
Kinda reminds me of outlanders! Highland had red hair and gorgeous. She was English but at least they were from the same time. But I enjoyed the story ever much. She was trying escape her father and her fiancé. She starting dreaming of a man(a gorgeous red headed, green eye man) then one night finds her man. A lot of excited but all works out at the end. Only part that to me you didn’t make sense. Was he left her to go pray! Go to this cave and falls asleep !! Then wake up and ride back to the castle! No one is look for laird! He missing !! just wasn’t necessary other than that I love it
Delightful Highland tale. This well-devised storyline is full of surprises, intrigue, betrayal, danger, love and romance. The main characters are from opposite worlds, but hopefully, the attraction between them, can bridge that gap. Enchanting characters, both main and secondary, with a truly evil villain, make this a book not to be missed. I really enjoyed this story and whole-heartedly recommend it to Highland lovers everywhere.
4.5 stars This was quite an adventure story with plenty of passion. Ella Pearson was a determined young lady. She had been wagered to a despicable man by her father and she used her intelligence to plan her escape. Ella comes across Lucas, a highlander who was seriously injured in battle. They both need to escape from the English and travel to Lucas’ castle in the Highlands. There are dangers to face on their way and greater dangers at the castle. There is also the growing relationship between Ella and Lucas. This was a very entertaining read with an abundance of action.
A tale about a wounded warrior and a lady who was betrothed to a cruel insane man. How they escaped and made it to safety and how the insane man found them. The story drew me in and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Her best book yet-
Great story but R rated. This is Fiona Faris’s best book to date! Lots of action, lots of romance, excellent dialogue, an insane bad guy, and a heroic highlander.
Once again Fiona Faris has provided a beautifully written book! I loved the Scottish brogue but, that what makes a Scottish Romance. The story kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. I read this as an ARC book and I am very glad I did. Hope the is a book about Millie!
I really enjoyed Lucas and Ella's story. The book held my attention from the beginning. I always enjoy Fiona Faris's books and look forward to reading more.
The female was kind of stupid and I just could not get past her stupidity. She hands over her v card to a strange guy that she has been raised to fear & despise without a second thought. He didn't have to do much. He offers her his protection through marriage and she rejects him because she's too proud to marry someone that doesn't really want her? Keeping in mind that the alternative is rape, torture, & eventual death I would think she would logically choose marriage to the first guy who got her off. And of course trying to befriend the bitch that already tried to kill her by drowning her for no other reason than her just trying to be nice. Brilliant. She is lucky that she hooked up with Lucas because she would have been toast otherwise.
I really enjoyed this book, until the end. This story brings a Scottish warrior, Lucus, together with an English lass, Ella. Lucus is in a bad way after being injured at war and the Ella helps him recover. While she believes him to still be unconscious from a fever and his injuries, she tells him of an evil man who wants to claim her as his own and that she is running from him. As he recovers, they grow to have feelings for each other. When the soldiers employed by the evil man come looking for the lass, Lucas helps her get away with the determination he is going to protect her.
While I really liked the story and would have given it 4 stars, the book is not toted as being a cliff hanger, however, it leaves several character's fates as a mystery and the extended epilogue is definitely a cliff hanger leaving the story wide open for potentially multiple followup books. The comments on the author page below the extended epilogue states she will be writing a second book to continue this story, however, the book published after this one, Taming the Highlander, doesn't appear to relate to this book. Even though, at the time I read it, this story had a purchase price on Amazon of only 99 cents for 375 pages, I would have gladly paid a higher price to have had the entire story contained here or at least be able to purchase the second part of the story in the next publication release. Hopefully the author will soon publish the second part of this story. This is the first book I have read from this author. I plan to back up and read the first one in her highlander group of books listed on Amazon, The Highlander's Virtuous Lady. Hopefully this book will truthfully have "no cliffhangers".
Another rip roaring bodice ripping tale set in Scotland Fiona's books are always a great fun read and this one is no exception
Emma is in a dire situation her father has huge gambling debts to the vile Commander Evans and she will be the payment for those debts but she has no intention of marrying such an evil man and she plots her escape the first plan may not have worked but when the carriage losses a wheel she sees her opportunity she throws herself on the mercy of a Scottish couple who are willing to help her nut the one ule is she must not enter the barn. (talk about red rag to a bull). Lucas MacGill is the new leader of the Clan McGill and he needs to get back to them but first he has to recover from wounds that he got a ta the battle of Dunedin fighting the British and the worst thing is he knows his wounds are infected. This is where Emma's skills come in her mother was a healer and taught her everything she knew but they know they cannot stay with the farmers they are putting them in danger so they flee to the Clan McGill castle. There not only will love bloom but they will find they have a common enemy Commander Evans is the man that killed Lucas;s father. Will they get their revenge and a HEA You will need to read to see
SETTING: Interesting plot, with a lot of sexual tension between the H and h. Ella’s father “loses” her in gambling to a vicious English Commander. When he realizes Ella contemplates running away, the heartless father says he will just give the Commander Amelia her baby sister if Ella runs away. What a dilemma! You can’t wait to read if Ella will escape Commandeer Evan’s evil clutches without endangering her sister? If she runs away, will she bring disaster down on those giving her refuge as well as her sister? Even the servant sent with her to take her to Commander Evans is heartless in his dealings with Ella, intent on fulfilling his master’s wishes to prevent any escape en route. Ella can just not draw a lucky break! Who can she turn to for aid in escaping her fate with Commander Evans? CRITIQUE: This is a highland romance with more steam than most-let the reader be aware. The story does capture interest, and I found it hard to put down after chapter 1. The ending is a twist on what I had expected, after a rather predictable journey. I enjoyed the extended epilogue, and can’t wait to read the next story in the series. 3.5 Stars.
This is a review given by my free will. I love all things about Scotland and Highlanders. This is a wonderful story of love, passion, envy, jealousy, honor and pride. It takes place during the fighting between the Jacobites and the English. Fiona's books are so full of history and emotions and you feel like you are there in the middle of it all. Ella is an English Lady whose father Gamble's excessively and ends up gambling away her future to a sadistic and evil Commander Evans. She escapes and hides away at a small Scottish farm. She hears a noise coming from the barn and thinks it an animal or maybe a ghost! When the noise continues, she investigates and finds a badly wounded Highland warrior. What becomes of her? Is she captured again for the evil Commander? What happens to the Highland warrior? I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romance and the Scottish Highlands.
Ella Pearsons hand is won in a bet, only it is to an evil English officer, Commander Anton Evans. While she is being transported to him their carriage breaks down and she is able to escape. She finds herself at the cottage of Fergus Cameron and his wife Sarah. They take Ella in and warn her against going into the barn. At night she hears moaning coming from the barn and finds a red haired man with green eyes, the same man she’d dreamed of. She helps nurse Lucas back to health not realizing he is the new Laird of Clan MacGille. As she helps Lucas they realize the commander is still looking for Ella and they escape back to his clan. With her life still in danger they marry so the commander will back off. Can they be happy or will the commander find a way to steal his bride back? A wonderful story full of surprises.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Ever heard the saying " straw that broke the camel's back"? That was when Ella found out her dad bet and lost her in a game of poker to Commander Evans. Vowing not to go through with the wedding she escapes from the wagon taking her to his castle. Lucas is the Scottish highlander that was wounded by Evans after Evans killed his father. While healing in a barn he dreams of a English-lass. While sleeping after escaping the wagon Ella dreams of a man with hair if fire and emerald green eyes. Neither expects to find the other while hiding out. Lucas takes Ella back home to the only place he can protect her. Will everything go as he wants or will Evans find her and take her back?
I received this book as an ARC copy from the author. I thought this was a wonderful story. A little bit steamy in a few places, but not too much. A well-written story line and engaging characters. I loved how Ella is so brave, and the way that the Laird's clansmen and women accepted her so readily. I thought this book was a very enjoyable and heart-warming read. There are numerous grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book that should be fixed. Also the epilogue ended abruptly and I think it's really annoying to have to go online to read the extended epilogue. Either write the extended epilogue at the end of the book, or skip it altogether. I don't understand the purpose of having to go online to read it.
Lucas witnessed his father killed in battle and was wounded himself. His father’s death makes him the new laird, but his wounds make it impossible for him to return home now. His cousin drops him off with an elderly couple to heal. Ella is an English beauty who is betrothed to a man she despises and fears. She escapes on the way to her betrothed and ends up at the same elderly couple where Lucas is. She uses her healer skills to help him recover. That begins their journey. They must avoid the Attention of the English soldiers as they travel on foot to his home,a jealous maid, healing wounds and threats from the former betrothed. This story has a lot of action, great characters, and a sweet love story.
I found this book to very enjoyable to read and didn’t want to put down. The only criticism I have is the the ending felt too rushed w too many loose ends that we’d still like to know about. Not that the ending didn’t completely cover things for the hero and heroine but that some other characters we were introduced to were left hanging and making us wonder what happened to them. Also, what she posted has an extended epilogue was actually an intro to another if her books. It sounds promising but instead of saying it was an extended epilogue, state it as what it is: an introduction to s future book
This is a fascinating book to read. For it shows us how shallow a parent can be. I really liked the character Ella for Fiona gave her such a depth to her personality. We learned alot about Ella as a healer as she traveled with Lucas. With Lucas we learned how protective a person can be. She used a excellent backdrop for the story. It made it possible for the story to grow as it developed. What happened to Ella was a common problem for women then. I found the love between Lucas and Ella special. I also like how Fiona brought out the sense of family in the MacGille home. It's a well written story with the right blend of romance and mystery. I found it interesting that they could both sleep in the hollow of a tree. That was neat. I look forward to her next book. J
Action packed from the first page, the story of Ella is of a brave woman who knows the consequences of being caught escaping from a cruel fate. Lucas is accidentally healed by Ella, yet I wondered at him being left at the farm to recover .... or not. Surely once his men reached home, some attempt would have been made to find him and discover his fate. Together, their story is one of survival and danger from the beginning, but his clan almo0st abandon him to death. In the face of such danger, taking all one's clothes off to have sex doesn't seem the most practical nor sensible course of action, especially in a tree. The story has some depth and enough action to hold one's attention.
Good plot with twist and turns along their adventure to stay alive until they could reach the keep for safety, from the murdering commander. Great world building and characters you can relate with and just want to be a part of. The only thing that kept me from 5 stars was the main character Elle excessively cried throughout the book and too many repetitive thoughts, unnecessarily detracted from the great story! I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story with ample steamy love scenes!
First by this author, loved it. A father use his daughter as a wager in a card game and lose her to a brutal soldier. In a battle England against a Scottish clan, the Laird of the clan is killed by the English Commander, one son is missing, another is brutally injured. This story has so many layers, how could a father be so cruel, who will become the new Laird, how will the heroine get away from her betrothed. If you want to know those answers just click the button and download.
I loved this story, though not from the start. The violence shown to women in nearly all of Fiona Faris' book may be historically correct, especially knowing that they were viewed more as property in the age this takes place...still, it's difficult to read. However, once our heroine, Ella, makes her escape and finds Lucas, nursing him back to health, the story's tone changes and it becomes difficult to put the book down! Can't wait to start the next book in the series!!!!!
