Heroes sacrifice themselves. Villains sacrifice others. Can one man live to be both?
Daeson awakens in a mangled car wreck with a dying woman. Forced to deal with the consequences of Synjan’s actions, Daeson’s resentment grows and their relationship fractures.
No longer supported by her companion and friend, Synjan invites a dangerous foe to join them—the Hunter himself.
When Hawke catches up, he struggles with risking everything to do what’s right or continuing to do what’s right for him.
As allies and enemies conspire on different worlds, Synjan, Daeson and Hawke head into a desolate landscape of sand, violence and treachery.
‘Husk’ is the fifth book in Linda Conlon and Delia Strange’s Wanderer of Worlds, a gritty contemporary fantasy. The series contains multiple perspectives, proactive characters, conspiracies, and shifting motives set against a backdrop of different worlds with their own languages and cultures. This ongoing tale combines the best traits of urban fantasy, action and light science fiction in a richly written, emotionally captivating adventure.

After a dramatic exit from the last world, Synjan and Daeson come to on a desert planet, with an unintended passenger onboard. While not as dark as the last book, this felt more brutal with ultimatums and shifting loyalties. Damn those conflicts; I have no idea how this interplay will evolve next.
Maybe Bear Grylls has just prepped me for the worst, but I never really felt like these guys were truly suffering as they trekked through the desert. They complain, and the schedule revolves around the sun, but I don’t think this is the Sahara by any stretch. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely desert, but Daeson’s healing makes things a lot breezier than it could have been. This planet is pretty forgiving, it’s the people that cause the problems.
There’s a lot of character movement (I’m begrudged to call it growth in this instance; they know what they did) and I am bummed I don’t have the next book ready to go. But I do have first dibs on a library copy, so fingers crossed they won’t make me wait too long.

The action in this book is terrific - you see sides to characters you never expected, and the writing is so skillful you can love and hate characters at the same time.
