In the non fiction novel Bruchko, Bruce Olson brings his audience through his inspiring and eye opening stories when evangelizing in a South American jungle. Bruce Olson is a Minnesota born missionary, best known for this book and for bringing Christianity to the Motilone Indians. Olson shares his experiences to show the readers that with faith, anything in life is possible, even when it seems unreachable. In this book, Olson takes the reader on his adventure when traveling, spreading the word of Christianity and finally coming home. Olson uses very intriguing stories and life experiences to gain the attention of his readers. Olson’s use of cause and effect statements, personal experiences and a hopeful tone implicate that his story is truly astonishing and life changing. Going against many of the motilone Indian customs and cultures, Olson risked his life when spreading the word of God throughout these places. With many near death experiences, Olson goes through tasks one can't even imagine. Reading this book gives readers insight about what specifically missionaries do and their main goal. The book Bruchko written by Bruce Olson, has helped his readers understand that even when things in life get tough, having faith in God can help one push through those obstacles. Though this book has some parts that seem slow, it is a truly beautifully written book about his personal journey that ends up bringing many to believe and follow Christianity. Overall, this book captures the picture of an astonishing story about a 19 year old boy following what God has asked him to do. Though Olson experienced many near death experiences, with faith and God's help, Bruce Olson shed a light to many in the darkness.
This book is an eye-opening insight to the life and ways of Columbia’s Molitone tribe, where missionary Bruce Olson takes a more gentle approach to telling them about Jesus in a way they would understand, instead of forcing fire and brimstone down their throats. This book was wonderfully written and a majestic display of God’s power and mercy, as well as a rollercoaster of feelings, ranging from joy to sadness and then to anger and acceptance. I highly recommend this book to any one and all. Be warned, however, that there are some more gruesome scenes that may be too much for a younger reader, but that’s up to the parent.
