I received an advance copy from the publisher for review. My review may be slightly biased, as the author is a friend and mentor. However, I'm not in the habit of telling tall tales, and will attempt to keep it honest.

Despite my 25 years of playing with plants and studying herbs, I learned something new and significant from this book, and teaching an old dog a new trick deserves 5 stars. Beginners and seasoned herbalists alike will find useful information in this book. Tina's mission has always been to demystify herbs, and present them as easily accessible and useful to every day people, in their daily lives. She accomplishes that mission in this book, presenting the information in clear, easy to understand terms. I'll be keeping a copy of this book on my stillroom shelf, along with my other favorite herbal reference books.

The book for review is ”The Healing Power of Herbs: Medicinal Herbs for Common Ailments” by Tina Sams. It falls in the genre of health/fitness and herbal medications.

People are familiar with herbs and how the various ones can help you with health issues you may be having. But how much do you know about them? For years people have used herbs to help our body and our mind. They are easy to buy, easy to find and grow and it some circles all people are talking about.

This book gives you inside into 30 herbs that are easy to grow for oneself. The book is divided three sections. The first is an introduction to healing herbs. The next how one goes about using medicinal herbs and the last section how to select the best one for you with profiles of herbs listed.

The introduction to herbs is a quick read to get you started. From there you learn about how to go about using them through teas, syrups, oils tinctures and so on. You learn the differences between them all. This is also a small section in comparison to the last chapter where you read on how to select the ones that suit you.

I loved this book. I been talking about herbs for a while now in the sense how I need to learn more and grow some for my family. This book gave me that opportunity to do so.

I received this book for free from the publishers so long I give an honest review.

"The Healing Power of Herbs" provides profiles for 30 healing herbs plus instructions on how to make herbs into teas, syrups, etc. The author started with tips on how to safely forge wild herbs, grow herbs, or buy organic herbs. She described how to make herbs into teas, syrups, oils, salves, pills, poultices, compresses, and use them in baths. She described the process for each in enough detail that a beginner can successfully make them for themselves. She talked about how to select the best herbs for the imbalances you are experiencing. She also talked about storing the herbs, safety issues, and dosages.

She did profiles on 30 common herbs. She provided the herb's name, other common names, description of the herb, safety considerations when using it, which parts are used, the properties and uses for it, suggested preparations and dosage, growing or harvesting tips, and ways to use it at home (including two recipes per herb for things like salves or teas). Overall, I'd recommend this book to those beginning to use herbs in healing and those who wish to make their own preparations.

I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

I was delighted to read an advance review copy of this excellent title. Tina’s persona as Editor of “The Essential Herbal” and Administrator of the Yahoo subscriber group comes through clearly in “The Healing Power of Herbs.” Tina approaches herbalism in a sensible, realistic way, and offers her knowledge much like a friendly chat. She presents information in a way that will appeal as an introduction to a novice, as well as a unique refresher to more seasoned students of plant medicine. One won’t be overwhelmed by heaps of scientific text, but instead gently illuminated by first-hand, personal experience. The layout of the book is also very friendly with a 2 column text format and clear photo illustrations. Tina shares 30 plants, setting out historic uses and folklore, contemporary use, scientific study, DIY recipes and grow-your-own advice. There is a nice mix of recipes for both meals and bath/beauty with clear instructions. I enjoyed this book very much!

I got this book because I love learning about herbs and holistic things.

I was blown away with all the uses and creative recipes using the top 30 easy to find, easy to grow herbs. Like using rose petals in jam, pine needle tea, licorice throat spray, and golden milk tea.

Each herb has its own info page and lists parts used (like the root), properties, uses, preparations, dosages, growing tips, home treatments using the herb, and 2 recipes using the herb.

Very informative book about herbs!!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.

I have read several of Tina Sams' earlier books and have enjoyed her magazine The Essential Herbal for years, but in this book she surpasses herself. Tina goes into detail on 30 herbs and their medicinal uses, including two recipes for each herb. The writing is concise and detailed, but there are also personal observations that bring the book to life. I recommend reading one or two sections at a time to allow all the information to sink in. I'll be keeping this for a reference book.

Good beginner book on herbs

If you are just getting started with herbs this is a good beginner book. It breaks down some common herbs with their uses and even some quick recipes. It also describes the various ways herbs are incorporated in our lives (tinctures, salves, poultices, etc.). Informative and short. A good read overall.

Lovely beginners book

I loved this book and highly recommend it for beginners to start learning about herbs. My only problem is that I wish there had been some more pictures of the herbs recommended.

I grow herbs and always love learning more ways to use them. I found so many good uses for the herbs I already grow and found reason to get a few more that grow really good in my region. This is a great book and must have.

For anyone who like me grew up with herbal teas and herbal remedies in general for anything from upset stomach to cold and sore throat, this book is a great addition to the household. I grow many herbs in my garden and have used most of them dried as teas or in cooking as well as in ointments. This book not only describes the 30 most common herbs, providing interesting and important background, but it also provides a nice a variety of additional uses of these herbs besides just tea. I found this book to be both interesting and useful. I plan on using some of the new instructions in how to put herbs like lavender to use in the future.
