I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.

I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.

I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.

Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.

I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.

Hmmmm....

I feel like a mean, fussy and bitchy reader for giving this novel 3 stars.

Why ?

1. Well, there's nothing offensive about it, the MC's are nice, the H is just mildly assholish and they spend a lot of time communicating with each other and sharing their inner feelings.

2. There's no cheating, the heroine's a virgin, there's no big long separation etc.

3. A "safe" reader will probably love this book because Gabriel is a H who won't really push anybody's buttons.

But I found it a little boring at times - especially the first 7 seven chapters. That's half of the story. The heroine also went from being standoffish and snotty to begging him for sex.

There was too much navel gazing ( introspection ) via internal monologues that were sometimes uninteresting and a couple of times repetitive.

The gist of the storyline:

Gabriel, the H, is the son of a big time drug dealer/criminal. He's distanced himself from his father and his criminal brothers but his business associates still distrust him.

He thinks that a marriage of convenience to the aristocratic heroine, Francesca, will ameliorate his tarnished image. Francesca agrees to the marriage because she owes millions of euros to people who'd loaned money to her late father.

They both have personal issues based on their childhood experiences. He's a commitment phobe and she blames herself for her mother's and twin baby brother's deaths.

The author spent a lot of time on the MC's childhood issues but the storytelling was a little dry and the plot just plodded along as the chapters unfolded.

There wasn't much exciting angst or OTT drama and I didn't exactly feel that these two had scorching sexual chemistry. They're obviously attracted to each other but it just didn't translate into an awesome romance.

Maybe I'm the one who couldn't appreciate this book because it was too tame and mild. Perhaps the author's trying so hard to appeal to readers who want the 100% safety, that she's lost sight of an important point: A novel can be safe and interesting simultaneously.

That's actually a huge problem I've been having with quite a few novels lately. This didn't reek of grand sigh worthy romance to me. Gabriel was also a little boring and too much of a total beta H, for my personal preference.

This is the 3rd of Melanie Milburne's recent novels, that has been less than impressive. The plot development was generally flat and it was only from around chapter 10 onwards, that the angst level was amped up.

I also felt that the resolution and the ending was rushed. Gabriel went from being anti- love and anti-fatherhood, to suddenly 100% gaga over the heroine.

All it took were 2 paragraphs of conversation between him and his sister and suddenly he's seen the error of his ways. It felt too contrived and I couldn't forge any emotional connection to the MC's.

My close Goodreads friends know that if a novel fails to affect me on an emotional level, then it's not getting anything above 3 stars.

There's also no epilogue and this specific novel desperately needed a romantic epilogue, because the reconciliation was executed in a hurried and very convenient fashion.

Safety: No cheating, no OM and no OW.

He was disappointed in her decision, of course he was, but that didn’t mean he was devastated or heartbroken. He didn’t feel that depth of emotion for anyone. He didn’t allow himself to.
Because he was a robot!

‘I’m angry at myself. I can’t tell you how angry. I hurt you.’
I've missed politically incorrect asshat heroes. He should be angry at her!

Better than average story of a marriage of convenience. Francesca and Gabriel really listen to each other and have genuine issues to overcome. I smiled at the way her tortured secret was the fact that she had a twin brother who died with her at birth. This one's for you, Jesse Garon Presley!

PENNILESS VIRGIN TO SICILIAN’S BRIDE by author Melanie Milburne is a Harlequin Presents series release for May 2019.

Francesca Mancini had nothing other than her aristocratic name and Gabriel Salvetti wanted it. He offered her marriage in exchange for settling her dead father’s debt. But would it be in name only?
Because the chemistry between them were off the charts. And when he discovers that his convenient wife is a virgin, he wants her for himself. For ever.

PENNILESS VIRGIN TO SICILIAN’S BRIDE is a sensational romance. Author Melanie Milburne’s story telling brought the characters and the setting alive and drew me into the story as if I was really there. I caught myself smiling and tearing up! This story was full of funny dialogue and witty comebacks among all the emotional intensity and sizzling scenes.

Highly recommended for all readers of romance.

This book was a disappointment. It was just soooo boring.

The H was nice enough, but he has so many hangups about his drug dealing, mobster father. (They weren’t your crimes big guy, move on.) He has a 25 yr old sister who he continues to coddle and treat like a child. He’s locked his emotions away and buried them in his equivalent of the Mariana Trench. It’s almost like he enjoys wearing a hair shirt to prove to himself that he’s not his daddy.

The h was also nice enough but with so many insecurities that she would be an excellent subject for many psychologists. She blames herself for the death of her mom and twin during childbirth. Her birthday is their death day. Guuurl, that is traumatic, but a good therapist can help you with all that self inflicted guilt. She’s also isolated herself cause she doesn’t know if the people she meets likes her for herself or for her wealth. This is because of how she was treated in school. Can I suggest therapy once again. Really. It will help.

I spite of these two being a tragedy waiting to happen, the author still paired them up. And it was awkward. I never felt a real connection between them.

I usually enjoy Ms. Milburne’s books, but wish I’d given this one a pass. It wasn’t a bad book. I’ve just read better from this author and expected more.

I like MoC stories but this trope has been done so much better by other authors, and I’m afraid this one bored me; I ended up skimming over pages.

I totally disliked Francesca. She was prepared to marry Gabriel to save her sorry ass but treated him with contempt and disdain. Why on earth Gabriel would want her was a total mystery,

I found both the H/h backstory insufficient to explain their angst and so consequently found it impossible to feel much sympathy with either one of them. Gabriel’s sister was TSTL and a total bitch into the bargain.

Frankie lasts about 2 minutes before begging for sex. Gabriel discovers she’s a virgin and decided he can’t proceed and their marriage should remain platoni! WTA? This was laughable.

and at the end, a few sentences from his sister are enough for Gabriel to change a lifetime’s certainty and decide he really loves her and wants babies? It just seemed to plod along. Disappointing because I’ve read good stuff from this author.

Gabriel turns up 6 pages from the end of the book and admits he loves her and wants them to stay married and have a family.

What an utter disappointment this denouement was. Brief, fast and so unsatisfactory
!!

Such a fast ending would only be acceptable if there was a fabulous epilogue! There wasn’t.

Billionaire Gabriel Salvetti is trying to project a clean image which is difficult since he comes from a notorious family. He has stood alone many years after the death of his mother when he was young . He helped raise his siblings and still worries about his sister Carli. His brothers no pun intended have gone to the dark side. Carli has a hard time with life and Gabriel tries so hard to keep her safe. Being such a caring person he approaches Francesca Mancini with a deal. Her father who helped him in the past, has died after a short illness, but managed to put everything he owned in bankruptcy, and left her penniless and owing more than she could possibly find to pay back. Gabriel offers to pay all debt and give her the house if she weds him for one year more than one year is not negotiable . What could he possibly gain from this? Not going to spoil this wonderful book all I will say is savor this story. Ms. Milburne always writes such fantastic stories and didn't think it possible but she even did more with this one. I fell in love with Gabriel and Francesca , You will too while they fall in love. Not to mention his sister Carli who I would love to meet again. Don't miss this story it is such a treat and truly a love story.

I enjoyed reading "Penniless Virgin to Sicilians Bride" by Melanie Milburne so much that I couldn't put it down. It it part of Harlequin's 'Conveniently Wed' series and that is what billionaire Gabriel Salvetti wants from Francesca Mancini. He offers to save her family home and not let the world know how much debt her father left her in after his death if she marries him and they stay married for one year. His family is into organized crime and he's trying to make a good name for himself by marrying someone because of their family connections. They don't count on actually falling for each other.

2.5 *

Book itself wasn't that bad, but I could not get over the fact she was supposed to be 4 foot 6 and he was 6 foot 4. Made every scene a bit funny in my head.

There were also a 'few' problems with the bits in Italian that really irked me (as a non-Italian speaker even), like the H calling his sister 'mio piccolo'... yeah.

Good story, let down with a rushed ending and no epilogue . Not one of Melanie Milburns best. So disappointed ! As a teacher would say, "could do better!"

I really enjoy a marriage of convenience story and this one ticked all of the boxes for one that I could barely put down, MS Milburne knows how to bring her characters to life on the pages and ensure that the reader is engaged in the story, I really loved the hero Gabriel and the heroine Francesca is just beautiful, I do highly recommend this one.

Gabriel Savetti has had a really tough life growing up but has worked hard to get to where he is today a property billionaire, he has a heart of gold and will do anything for his sister and his brothers if they would let him. Now he needs his reputation to be squeaky clean for a business venture and decides to offer a friend of his Francesca Mancini some help in exchange for a marriage of convenience and that is all it must be.

Frankie is devastated when her father passes away and leaves her desperately in debt, after living a rich but maybe lonely life as an only child she is struggling with what she should do when Gabriel steps in and makes her an offer too good to refuse, but there are rules that come with his offer and Frankie is not really sure she can adhere to them you see she has always had this attraction to Gabriel but is innocent to the world of love, can she keep her heart.

This really is a great story, well written and a page turner, Gabriel is such a caring hero but struggles to open up his feelings after all he has been through and Frankie is open and caring and turns out she is just the heroine Gabriel needs to move forward to such a beautiful HEA, thank you MS Milburne I loved this one sensual and moving.

‘A hundred hearts would be not enough to contain all my love for you.’

That is the last line of the book and I totally loved it. It brought t a three star read up to 4. Didn't really like the hero. He was so cold and stubborn. Frankie wasn't my favorite heroine but she grew on me. I just kept thinking that she was only 4'6" tall and he was 6'4" tall. That kind of weirded me out! I don't think I ever have read about a shorter heroine like that. I couldn't picture it. But i.liked the book. Parts of it maybe not so.much but I did enjoy it. He was crazy in.love with her but fought it hard. He was not celibate after he met her, but she turned down his request for dinner when she was 18. He said he has wanted het forever but he still had lovers. She of course was a virgin. I don't mind that but I would like it at least once that a hero could keep his dick.in his pants if he supposedly.wanted the heroine. But alas HP and my.own.life Experience has shown me different. I honestly wish.I hadn't started reading these when I was young. But I can't stop.

A marriage of convenience turns into more than they can handle! Fast paced and with a beguiling plot, Melanie Milburne's latest release is sure to delight. The characters share a witty banter as passion begins to unravel their best intentions. Enjoyed their connection!

Francesca Mancini is broken hearted. She just lost her father, and now she's having to say goodbye to the home that's been in her family for centuries. She's shocked when the man she has pretended not to be affected by in the past brings her an offer she can't refuse.

Billionaire Gabriel Salvetti washed his hands of his family of criminals years ago, but the name he carries brings a stigma to every moment of his life. No matter the success he's made of himself, he still is looked down upon and found less than. Marrying Frankie will give him the prestige of her family name behind him, and it will allow him to help the daughter of the man that mentored him for years.

Will they be able to go their separate ways at the end of the agreement. A great read.

“Marry me this weekend.” Marriage by convenience has to be one of my favorite type of romance novels, but I wasn’t too much of a fan of this one. Loved the beginning; it completely drew me in. I was really interested in the story up until the halfway mark. The whole reason Gabriel and Frankie got married was so he could impress his board members, yet not once did Frankie meet them nor was there ever any mention of anyone other than a few paparazzi or his sister even knowing about their marriage. I know you can only do so much with 200 pages, but it all just seemed to rushed. 3 stars

I didn't like it, hero was very attracted to heroine but only asked her out once and then never tried again until he bribed her into marriage. In the meantime he slept with tons of other women even one just weeks or possibly days before start of book. I didn't really like heroine all that much, she was so cold and way too insecure. Hero's turnaround about fatherhood and marriage at the end was way too sudden that it didn't feel believable. Np.

The characters in Penniless Virgin to Sicilian’s Bride by Melanie Milburne leapt off the page from page one. I was consumed by the fierce Francesca and the devilish Gabriel. The romance is torrid, passionate and fiery while the writing is beautiful and lyrical. Enjoyable until the last page!
