“Gidget” meets S.E. Hinton’s 1967 cult classic “The Outsiders” and “Westside Story.” A saga that begins in today’s Malibu, California (population 12,879) as the kids get out of school for Spring Break and race for the beaches to catch the early south swells. The youth of this beloved little oceanside hamlet split into two the spoiled trust fund babies living in their mansions and the surfer dudes living at the beach, sleeping in their cars or holed up in low-rent apartments, recalling the Socs and Greasers in Hinton’s novel. As these two worlds collide amidst the rollercoaster rides of their teenage lives, a harrowing drama unfolds against the backdrop of an infamous 30-year old Hollywood TV series scandal, an iconic love triangle, jail time, teenage suicide, city hall corruption and a series of baffling murders as the Pacific surf crashes onto the golden sands of the Bu.
