Clash of the Cuisines and only one can win!

One of the major issues I have had with this series is that it basically just feels like a pat on the back of the creator of this fantasy world thinly disguised as a venture to create a guidebook of Tempest and how Rimuru seems to have trusted this big project to relative newcomer Framea the rabbitfolk seemingly because she has a unique skill that lets her judge the quality of things. However Framea is not a normal monster for she had a name before she came to Tempest and at the beginning of this story we see the poor girl mesmerized in a dream sequence with the person I can only assume gave her a name and power. More interestingly is the person in her dreams could potentially be in Tempest even now and very much aware of Rimuru as much as he is aware of her presence. Whether this becomes a matter of conflict later or not we will have to see but Framea is definitely meant for something in Tempest even if she is unaware of what that something is yet.

With the 1st part of the Tempest Guidebook completed Rimuru decides to host a contest in the coliseum so he can get the book into circulation. However unlike a normal event normally found in such a grand arena today's contest is a pretty sweet deal as Framea hosts a contest of delectable treats as the finalist create one last treat to tempt the four judges. However in such a grand venue pride is at stake and Framea will do what she does best to keep the competition fair for all involved. However with one judge in particular getting hungry for dessert will the event become a fight after all?

Now with successfully having passed out copies of the new guide at the contest Framea finds herself helping a felow monster who has discovered a new passion for cooking after witnessing the event and wants Framea to introduce him to the winner so he can apprentice under him. What happens leads Framea and her new friend on a little quest so he may find a path to his dreams and Framea can experience the sensation which is the school of Tempest opening up all new experiences for her.

Now on this note after finishing the 3rd volume in the series I have realized something interesting about this particular series which is basically what if the creator of this series gave permission to change what type of series this is without actually changing the characters? So far we have seen this series do numerous spa scenes, had multiple food gimmicks, an actual moment of how to RPG, and each shop brings its own flavor to the series making it a mishmash of who knows ow many themes. Is it gimmicky? Sure it is but so long as you look past the basic plot and focus on the characters within the story you might find yourself opening your heart up to this series a little more. Oh, also by time you reach the end of this volume we are also treated to the beginning of a mystery and the great and powerful Ramiris is on the job in one heck of a cute Sherlock Holmes like outfit. We will have to wait for the next volume to see how the "master detective" applies her trade. I know I am looking forward to it as I finally begin to warm up to this part of the series at last. :)

There isn't much to say other than it's fun to read, it adds some information to characters that don't get much time in the main series while also having the core group still somewhat centre stage!
There isn't much plot which is to be expected in the type of series it is, although there are moments that make me wonder if there is something underlying potentially coming up!
One big plus is the preview of the guidebook on the last few pages!

Is this series too light hearted? Maybe. But this volume ups the suspense as strange dreams haunt Framea.

No time to dwell on that, though, as Framea is asked to be the emcee of Rimuru's first Sweets Coliseum match (Poor Benimaru). Yes, it's a dessert contest, but the flow of this great, going from a grand competition into a sampling of Tempest Technical Development Academy (school).

And for anyone wondering about the Tempest guide book, Part 1 is included at the end of the volume (kind of a nice recap of the past 3 books). 3-stars!

This series was cancelled at 8 volumes.
