Walking Shadows #0.5

Deceiving a Devil

Rate this book
Jude needed to make the most of this tonight because he might lose her in the morning…

Lilah could not believe it when she saw Jude sitting at the bar. Not him. Her was her first love and her first heartbreak. She felt like she could conquer the world, but she wasn't ready to face the Jude. Although, if she played her cards right, she might get a fun night and little revenge too.

Jude has been waiting years to see Lilah again and here was his chance to beg for her forgiveness. There was just one thing standing in his way. He needed to come clean about their breakup, but that might mean he would have to say goodbye to Lilah forever.

Lilah can't take her eyes off of this new, dark Jude. Her college sweetheart had grown into a man and she wanted him. Jude’s secret didn't matter to her, but he didn't know that.

You will love this quick, steamy read with an alpha male, outspoken heroine, a little pain and a lot of lip.

Like all of my books, this story is safe and has no cheating.

This book is a stand-alone prequel to the Walking Shadows series coming Summer 2019.

The only reason why I didn't dnf this book was because it was very short. I thought I could at least make it to the end and see what it's all about. Well, there's not much to say. There was no real introduction to the characters or the world they lived in. The woman felt like a teenager to me, though I have no idea how old she was supposed to be. Anyway, she dressed herself up just to break up with her boyfriend Brett. The break up was very strange for me because she mentioned that she tried to break up with him a couple of times before but he always sweet talked her out of it. Coincidentally, her ex-boyfriend, whom she hasn’t seen in years, was there as well and they suddenly seemed to bond again.

She was mad at him because he’d broken her heart and disappeared on her years before but all of a sudden she was fine and flirted with him and even ended up in his bed. This all happened seemingly within minutes!!

When you think there couldn’t be anything out of order happening you’re wrong. Because bam! During their sex he told her a life changing secret. Come again?! What in the hell? It came out of nowhere and just made no sense. The reader didn’t even get a heads up that this played in a paranormal world until then.

There was no world building whatsoever. It was as if moments from full length scenes were taken and put together without connecting them. Sorry but I couldn't deal with this.

Her reasons why she wanted to break up with Brett and her characteristics just didn’t add up. And then how she acted with her newly found love and how she told him that she needed more foreplay but actually just wanted him to fuck her. Woman! Make up your mind! And after he told her his secret, although she knew it already before, she didn’t even react on it!! She was fine as if you would have told her the sun was shining. Now they live happily ever after or what?! Oh my.. this was just so ridiculous.

Short, sharp and to the point! This short and steamy read will keep you captivated and is a great starter book for this series. As well as being steamy it is a great little second chance romance between first loves torn apart by circumstances. I hope to get more of their story when the series is released later this year.

Fun little novella prequel. I hope there's more info about how he became a vampire in the next book.

Then there was like a weird bloop, like, out of sequence, timeline jump thingy. Which I believe the author e-mailed a correction for but which I may not have downloaded the new book. So, that one's on me, bruh.
So, back to the story...
