The Good Life #3

Good Things Come

Rate this book
If there's one thing Hollywood does right, it's the happy ending - a kiss, some catchy music, and another cute couple lives happily ever after. At least, we think they do. We hope they do. But do they? Jake and I had our happy ending in 2013. But what does ‘happily ever after’ mean? And how do we know when we get there? I don’t recall watching any romantic movies about lawn care, property taxes, or fossilized french fries crammed between the seats of a Chevy Equinox. I didn’t expect our happy ever after to be a cluttered kitchen table, a refrigerator filled with fertility meds, and a 4-year-old who just told a stranger to eff off in the parking lot of Whole Foods. I dreamt our life together would be a feeling of peace, of knowing I had everything I needed. Instead, there’s a nagging, unhealthy feeling that has me wondering - Is this it? Jake has been so patient with me. While I’ve been desperately fighting for the life I thought we should have, he has been in my corner supporting me. Like the Pacey to my Joey, he’s always had my back. But his patience is wearing thin. And I’m exhausted. Will I learn to love the life I have before I lose it? If I stop trying to change our course, will I realize we’ve been on the right path the whole time? And what happens if I don’t?

I'm a wife, mom, waitress, book nerd, Chapstick addict, and a really bad driver who still believes in happy endings and can't walk in high heels. Writing is what I do when I'm avoiding other things...like cleaning.

I once had big dreams of being a Hollywood screenwriter.

But then I met a boy and got distracted.

Three years later we met another boy, this one even cuter.

The three of us are now living happily ever after in the Detroit area. The Good Life is my first novel. And our house is kind of a mess :)

The "happily ever after" wrap up to the Jake and Roxie story with a "choose your own ending" option! I mean this is Roxie - of course there are options! -- Neurotic, frantic, frenetic Roxie is back and calm, solid, but sometimes dense, Jake is here to support the woman he loves. In true romance fashion we are led through the trials and tribulations of life with a 4 year old while trying to get pregnant with a sibling for him. Jake and Roxie do find time for each other, at least to start with, but then things don't go as Roxie has planned and the challenges begin. Will they find their way back to a place of equilibrium? I just had to keep reminding myself that the title should lead me to the correct conclusion. Glad I hung in there! (and I did read both endings!)

Loved this book. I felt like I was experiencing everything with Jake and Roxie. I didn't want to put it down once I started reading it (but had to since I started it on a train ride from Chicago to Royal Oak, MI to move my mom).I would highly recommend all of the Good Life books.

I loved the evolution of jake and Roxie. I loved
How I could relate to her crazy self talk, and how Jake just “got” her. I love it all, and both endings! 💗
