Wyrd Love #5

Starting Fires

Rate this book
The greatest bounty hunter in the Wyrd has met his match. Now, he wants to claim her not for the money, but as his mate. Bill the Skinner is only one bounty away from his freedom. He just has to catch Kindle -a fiery phoenix- to escape the slaver's whip. But Kindle's blazing confidence and sensual air ignites an inferno inside him, leaving Bill not only chasing her but desiring her as well. Now, the troll wants to claim her as his own. If only it wasn't at the cost of his life. For thirty years, Kindle has run from the werewolf who put a price on her head. Now, the best bounty hunter in the Wyrd has come for her and it will take more than a seductive smile and flirty wiggle to elude him. Bill's tenacity is unrelenting and his heated kisses are even more powerful. But if she gives in to him, an eternity of pain from the hands of her worst nightmare awaits her.CONTENT Violence, depictions and discussion of abuse, implied attempted sexual assault (but none on page).

Another wonderful read

This is Bill the Skinner and Kindle’s the Phoenix story and was a great change of pace. Only took me a day to finish this book. I was hooked once I got started. It was nice to see some old faces pop up, and some get some backstory to characters who have been lingering in the background for the last few books. However, loved Bill’s companion, who knew a Mercury (car) could be so great? Was wondering what the story was about Bill's car and Bill himself. Cynthia's books just keep getting better and better.I can’t wait for the next book!

What I love about Diamond's Wyrd Love series is the way she writes Urban Fantasy + Paranormal Romance with a twist. The main characters in this book (her 5th in the Wyrd Love series) are a Phoenix who used to be a 40s pin-up girl and a troll who is also a bounty hunter. Who else comes up with combinations like that? Diamond's writing is quirky and humerous and I always find myself smiling or laughing at the characters, their situations, or the pop culture references Diamond utilizes. Many of the characters we met in the previous 4 books appear in this one as secondary characters, which I always appreciate as it means I can continue to follow characters I got to know previously, but this can be read as a standalone novel as well.

This was another fun read. Bill and Kindle's love story is a great addition to the Wyrd universe. There's a lot of cat and mouse gaming for much of the book, but it works to build up their feelings for one another.
