This is an excellent book to whet your apetite to explore the many California Nature Conservancy Preserves. Some of my favorites: Ring Mountain (Tiburon Mariposa Lily), Cosumnes River (River Otters), Kern River (Yellow-billed Cuckoo's), Carrizo Plain ("California's Serengeti," Chumash Indian art), and Big Morongo (birds, more birds!).
