About The No Brides Club Series:
Six no marriage vows. Six Mr. Rights. Will a group of strong, independent women break their pledge to one another and choose love over a career? Each book stands completely on its own, but you'll have more fun if you read them all together!
This is the fifth book in the No Brides Club series. Kate Lewis is done with country life. She's lived her life on her family's dairy farm and now it's time to see how life at NYU treats her. Loving New York City she vows to stay there and never return to farm life again. The ladies of the No Brides Club value work above all and that includes romantic relationships. They don't have time for it in their quest for the climb to the top in the financial world and Kate is no different . A senior analyst for a mutual fund she's been passed up for a promotion twice for portfolio manager. She vows it absolutely will not happen again and by putting in long hours she is sure of it. John, eh, no big deal she has known him since childhood when he was just a chubby nuisance but wait, he's become a competitive swimmer and has really toned up. Forced to work together the high school sweethearts feel the flare up of romance again but when he may be offered the promotion over her will their love fizzle out with her jealousy? Loved this series. It was a lot of fun. Published February 1st 2019 by Sweet Promise Press I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!
I've never heard of this author before now, so I was a bit unsure if I would enjoy it or not. I have to admit, I was rather pleasantly surprised by this story!
For it being novella length, it flowed smoothly and felt like a full and complete story. I liked how the author incorporated Kate's feelings of loss now that most of the No Brides Club had started romantic relationships, as I thought that was a very realistic touch!
I have to say, I liked both Kate and Jon, both as people and as a couple. They had a lot in common, and their differences balanced each other out. They were clearly a loving couple and felt very realistic to me. I'd have to say that they're my favorite out of all of the No Brides couples so far.
My one complaint was the lack of resolution with the situation that forced Kate out of her position. It was a little vague, and didn't feel fully explored to me. Other than that, this was an enjoyable and engaging read! I look forward to the final book in the series!
The meetings of the No Brides Club have become very scarce. Apart from Julie (who meets her happily ever after in part 6), Kate hardly sees any of them. They are too busy being in love. Kate is busy trying to get a promotion. Since Jon and Kate are coworkers, a big part of this book is about work. Although towards the end, other things become more important. I love Jon's grandfather. He is a really nice character. And even the cats help to bring Jon and Kate together. At first I was leaning towards giving it 4 stars, but I enjoyed the book more as I read along. So 5 stars it is. I received a copy and chose to review it.
No Time for Apologies by Jean C. Gordon is the fifth book in the No Brides Club series. Women with careers first have joined together to further their careers before marriage. It does not always work out that way. Love is a powerful force especially when the right one comes along. Kate Lewis always had a head for figures. She was a Mathlete along with Jon Smith. They were not great friends in high school, but ten years later, when they meet again in a supervisor-employee relationship, sparks begin to fly. Will Kate keep her promise to herself and choose her career over Jon?
This is wonderfully written story with great characters. I really liked Jon's grandfather in addition to Jon and Kate! I highly recommend this book. it is full of emotions and is also a sweet story.
NO TIME FOR APOLOGIES is a modern day sweet romance (not Christian). Kate is a very cut-throat business management type person that I so could not relate to. Even when I worked in the business world women like Kate had me scurrying in the opposite direction.
Jon was nice, sweet, a bit nerdy, but relatable. He might be a numbers geek but as a farmer and a professor he, well, he was just sweet. I was rooting for him. For his grandpa. For grandpa's neighbor. His career. Everything. Jon won my heart. And he worked well with Kate - a plus.
Not being a Christian romance there is no faith message, and for the more conservative readers there is a lot of drinking.
If you are looking for a sweet romance then NO TIME FOR APOLOGIES is one to consider. I did NOT read any of the other books in this series, but this stood alone.
A sweet story about old friends reconnecting and becoming more than friends. Jon and Kate knew each other in high school. He was really geeky and she was popular. They were sort of friends back then but now Kate can't believe how much Jon has changed. Kate has focused her life on her career and her new assistant is none other than Jon. She has a plan and it doesn't include any time for falling in love. Sometimes plans change.
No Time Apologies is the first book I have read by Jean C Gordon. I found fifth installment from the No Brides Club series to be fun and entertaining. I enjoyed Jon and Kate’s chemistry. Although the story predictable, it is still most definitely worth a read. I give No Time Apologies four stars. Looking forward to the conclusion of the No Brides Club series. I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
This is a fab second chance story set in the big city! High school friends who end up working together in the big city! It’s a great story of growth, life struggles and romance and I read in one sitting!
No Time for Apologies: No Brides Club Book 5 is by Jean C. Gordon. This fifth book in the series is one of the best written of the books. The pretext of the book is the same; but somehow Jean C. Gordon takes it way above the others. Her writing itself is exceptional and her choice of words makes the story so very clear and vibrant. It is a wonderful book and deserves to be read by many. Kate Lewis is an analysis for DeBakkers-Geld Fund firm. She has worked there for several years and is very good at her job; but has been overlooked for promotion during that time. Now a manager position is coming open and she is in the running for it. If all goes well, she will have a promotion and a new apartment. It is what she has been working for. Should it fall through, she intends to look at other firms with a better record for promoting women. Meanwhile, she has to focus and do her best work. Jon Smith has come to DeBakkers to work for the summer as a junior analysist to get more information for the class he teaches at a local college. He is upfront with HR and with the interviewer that it is only a temporary position until school begins again. Meanwhile, he will put the wages towards paying off a loan his Grandfather took out against the farm. Jon has gone into business with his Grandpa on the farm. Instead of a dairy farm like it has been, he is turning it into a beef farm. He is looking forward to working the farm with his Grandpa and teaching at the college. What he hasn’t planned for is to have Kate Lewis as his boss at the firm. He and Kate went to high school together and vied for the highest scores in math at the school. They went to the Mathletes competition together with her Father driving them. Jon had a crush on her then; but was such a geek that he didn’t attempt to date her. Now she is his boss. What will happen between the two of them as the powers that be at the firm think Jon is in contention for the manager promotion even though he tells them no? Can Kate believe he doesn’t want the position? The book is very good and so much fun to read.
I found myself identifying with Kate. . . on more than one level. First, I couldn’t wait to leave the ‘country’ and be a part of the big city. After a few years, I found myself wishing I were back in the country — and was happy to make the move when I got the chance.
And, unfortunately, I’ve been passed over many times for promotions at work for the same reason Kate was struggling with. I think more men are promoted because in general men don’t want a female boss. But whatever the reason, too often women I’ve known were passed over for promotions — even when they were more qualified — because they were women.
Finally, I loved how Kate learned to handle her work. . . and her personal life.
If you enjoy clean, sweet romance, you’re gonna love No Time For Apologies! I haven’t read any of the other stories in this series, but now I’m looking forward to them.

This novel includes a slice of New York life involving unsafe low rent housing,Julie's former paralegal cousin, college student and Beckley's Cafe waitress Samantha "Sam" Dennis and widowed attorney Matthew R. Sentori.
This is the fifth book in the No Brides Club. Of course, 4 of the 6 friends have found their HEA leaving just 2 who insist they are concentrating on their careers and have no time to find a man and get married. I this book, Kate and Jon were friends and competed together and against each other on their high school math team. Kate was always a beautiful girl, and she was popular in school, whereas Jon was overweight and a typical nerd. He had a crush on Kate, but she never had time for that with him. Fast forward to present day, and Kate is an analyst at an investment company looking to become a fund manager (unusual as the industry is typically male). Jon comes to Kate as her new assistant where he can save some money before becoming a math teacher. He is no longer overweight, and actually has grown up as man-candy! Unknown to both Jon and Kate, he’s who the management team have determined should become their newest fund manager!
Kate and Jon were fabulous together! I was truly frustrated with the misogynistic treatment Kate faced regularly in the company. This was a sweet romance that left you feeling good about their relationship, but unsettled about the misogynistic treatment that doesn’t seem to end.
I received an ARC copy of this book courtesy of Sweet Promise Press and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.
Kate Lewis and Jon Smith went to high school together, but despite a common love of math she was the popular girl and he was the chubby nerd. I loved his transformation to sexy swim athlete. It would be fun to by a fly on the wall at their high school reunion. Jon lived the world of successful stock fund manager and he’d rather work his grandfather’s beef cattle farm and teach college. While all Kate dreams of is moving to the next level from senior analyst to fund manager. But the company she works for, DeBakker Mutual Funds is sexist and would rather promote men than women. I guess no woman would sue over this for fear they would be blackballed from other firms. Jon takes on a short-term assignment as Kate’s assistant and all senior partners at DeBakker-Gelm can think is that he would be perfect for the next fund manager opening even though he doesn’t want it and Kate has clearly shown that she does. Kate put her career first, but it really didn’t make her very happy and DeBakker-Gelm really didn’t care about her. I’m happy she chooses to put her heart first in the end.
Ah, Kate and Jon....the "old high school friends that reconnect after years of no connection"!!! They weren't sweethearts, more like Kate sort of bullied Jon and feels bad about that but they did have a connection because they were in Mathletes together in a country high school. However, Kate couldn't wait to get out of the country and Jon didn't mind it so much. Kate had a great family and Jon....did not. Kate lives for work and Jon....does not. I liked all these opposites between the two of them after they surprisingly reconnect at the same financial firm when Kate becomes Jon's boss for the summer. Jon was just my kind of person. I would have liked to be around him! Kate was very "into her work" though and lived for it. That's why she's in the No Brides Club! However, love can somehow make you rethink those priorities!!!!! Jon's grandfather was fantastic! I loved his character! Another awesome book in the series!
I don’t quite know what to say about this book. There’s lots of angsty family drama and a horrifyingly toxic workplace. And in the middle of all that are Kate and Jon, two former high school acquaintances/nemeses who are suddenly thrust back into close contact with one another. I enjoyed this story. It’s well-written, with complex characters, and plenty of little plot bunnies to chase down. (Or would “plot kittens” be more accurate…?) I’m going to blame it on my mood when I read this, because I didn’t completely connect with the story; I didn’t get sucked into the book. I think there were some wonderful possibilities that had been set up in the family drama that didn’t get taken advantage of. Though, the ending is completely charming, and the feline sisters stole the show. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher as part of a box set.
No Time For Apologies the 5th book in the series of the No Brides Club by Jean C. Gordon begins to answer the question is the love of your life work or a life and love. Kate Lewis has been married to her job and hoping for a promotion that she rightly deserves with her company in NYC. Jon Smith grew up with Kate in rural NY and takes a job as her assistant well below his abilities but he wants to earn money to help his grandfather cattle ranch get out of debt. Love how the relationship between Kate and Jon grew and how Kate struggles with her job and a relationship with Jon. I highly recommend reading the book No Time For Apologies and all the books in the No Brides Club Series. I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review of it.
In No Time for Apologies, Kate is a super intelligent financial analyst trying to break the glass ceiling. She has been passed over for promotion to fund manager several times. Suddenly, the company has hired her an assistant, Jon Smith, whom they are obviously grooming for Kate's promotion.Jon has left the financial game behind for teaching. Jon wants to help his grandfather keep his farm so he takes this position for the summer. Kate and Jon were high school classmates. Kate and Jon were great together. The plot is interesting and reminds the reader to focus on what is truly important. It is so irritating when companies treat their female employees the way Kate is treated. This is a great book that you should not miss.
I found it very difficult to get into this story. It had potential, but it was just two characters who had known each other from High School, and then meet unexpectedly in a business environment, and sparks fly, and this is all told to us in the blurb.
The story had great potential to show the unfair treatment of women in an office situation, and the overlooking of capable women for promotions, but instead it allowed Kate and Jon to be caught in a romantic situation and had them then both quit their jobs.
I thought the two felines at the end of the story was rather cheesy, but for those who love their furry pets, it adds a cute element and a happy ever after ending, which is no surprise. A clean romance. Well-developed characters.
Well, the No Brides club members are falling like flies - a fact that's not going unnoticed by the two remaining non brides! This book brings together two people who had known each other at school but one was cool and the other not - and this has changed now. I found one of the greatest strengths in Jon's interactions with his grandfather; they made him more human than he would otherwise have been. The book also incorporates workplace sexism and frankly rank discrimination - and it does this well, but the resolution to that storyline is ultimately unsatisfactory. It mars an otherwise entertaining story.
Another story in the No Brides Club series. I enjoyed the main characters in this story and the storyline. Kate Lewis is a very smart character trying to prove herself in a man's world. All she wants is to be promoted to fund manager In dong so her life revolves around work and more work until she becomes reacquainted with Jon Smith. Jon had a crush on her in high school and finds out he still does. Unfortunately Kate was not very nice to him then and she has no time for dating now. It was interesting to watch Kate's character change as she wanted to find her happily ever after too. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
It's the fifth book of the No Brides Club series and Ms. Gordon certainly keeps the series flowing and her characters connected to the previous ones. Her protagonists, Kate and Jon, are rising stars in the world of finance in NYC, but both of them had competed with each other as high school mathletes and he always had a crush on her. Jon is such a patient, kind man and watching Kate slowly choose him over her career was enjoyable. This book is another great addition to the series. I would have rated it a 5 if there hadn't been so many editing errors. I'm certainly looking forward to reading the final book!!!
S is for Satisfying, oh it was so sweet, W is for Warm, when Kate and Jon meet. E is for Entertaining, I loved this book, E is for Engaging, one page was all it took, T is for Thrilled, I was roped in from the start, R is for Romance, to warm up your heart. O is for On a mission, Jon has things to do, M is for Misfortune, the troubles he runs into. A is for Analyst, that’s what Kate is, N is for Nice, when they finally kiss. C is for Captivated, that’s what I was, E is for Enjoyed it, read it without pause.
Sweet Romance :) I just couldn’t help myself. I loved this book!
This is another great book in this series. Kate Lewis moved to NY and works with finance, trying to prove herself in a male world. Jon Smith had a crush on Kate in high school, but she wasn’t very nice to him. When they begin to work together, feelings surface, but Kate suspects that he is there to steal her promotion while he states that he is only there during the summer to raise money to save his grandfather's farm. Will they be able to overcome the differences and have their happily ever after, just like Kate's other friends? I loved the story and the characters and highly recommend the reading.
No Time for Apologies by Jean C. Gordon is book 5 in The No Brides Club series. Each book is an enjoyable standalone. Kate and Jon's story is set in the dog eat dog world of high finance. Kate is trying again to move up the corporate ladder with a promotion that is well deserved. Enter Jon, a nerdy acquaintance from high school, who Kate feels is after the same position. Jon denies this and states he is only there for the summer and will start to teach at the community college in the fall while helping his Grandpa with his beef cattle farm. Jon is no longer nerdy but Kate is totally committed to her job....or is she? Fantastic story!
This book took me back to high school with the division between the cool kids and the not so cool kids (too old to have had nerds). Kate had been a cool kid even though she was smart enough to be a nerd. Jon was an over weight nerd in high school. When he shows up years later, Kate is embarrassed but also drawn to the now buff Jon. Jean C. Gordon brings a good story line with all the angst of those high school memories and current job worries with strong characters. A totally enjoyable book.
I enjoyed reading No Time for Apologies. Kate, a mean girl in high school, and Jon, an overweight math nerd, meet again in the corporate world. Kate is apologetic for her past behavior, and Jon has grown into what one of the No Brides Club members call eye candy. Kate's his boss for the summer. I loved Jon's care and devotion to his grandfather and to their cattle operation. One of my favorite scenes is Jon and Kate adopting sister cats and how loyal Jon's cat is to him. I received an ARC from the publisher. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.
No Time for Apologies (No Brides Club, #5) by Jean C. Gordon
No Time for Apologies is a tale of sacrifice that proved years in the making. Gordon turns youthful infatuation into a grownup rivalry. Kate and Jon have a history that she's trying to outrun and he's trying to bring into the present. A hometown crush could lead to big city heartache for a romance that never got the chance to become something more. Apologies is a tale of life, love and sacrifice with all the complications of the real world, but the simplicity of great romance.
Kate had been trying for the managers position and had been passed over but she is determined this time around to succeed until an assistant Jon was hired as competition. Not only she feels her job is in jeopardy but her heart. Jon was an old friend back in school who was a nerd but when he showed up on the job he was definite eye candy. Can Kate protect her job and her heart? You will live reading this to find out! Very heartfelt and wonderful characters you will fall in love with!
The six women in the No Brides Club are hard working career driven go getters that believe they have to focus on their careers to the exclusion of love. Kate has known Jon since grade school and treated him poorly in high school. They reconnect at a business where Kate is Jon's boss. They fight their mutual attraction until they no longer can. Each of the books are stand alone with recurring characters and are sure to entertain.
