IceCats #1

Juicy Rebound

Rate this book
Chandler Moon’s career as a defensemen for the IceCats is on fire. However, his marriage has gone up in flames… literally. He’s resigned himself to the single life and being the best dog dad he can be, but he still holds out hope that one day he’ll find “The One.” So, imagine his surprise when he runs into “The One Who Got Away.”

Amelia Justice.
His best friend’s baby sister.
AKA: “The One Who Is Totally Off-Limits.”
Amelia is broken. The punches that life, and her ex-husband, have thrown at her have her down for the count. She’s cut herself off from her family and friends as she works to rebuild her self-esteem and her spirit. Hidden away in a small town, she never expects to reconnect with “The One She Should Have Chosen.”

Chandler is so much more than he was in college: more handsome, more muscular, more tattooed… It was supposed to be a casual fling while Amelia and Chandler worked to put the pieces of their lives back together.

But as every good hockey player knows, a rebound can turn into one hell of a goal.

“It’s hard to forget the one who got away.”

Juicy Rebound is the first book in Toni Aleo's newest hockey series, 'IceCats'. If you've read her Assassin's books or her Bullie's books,  you will notice a few tie-ins. I love these characters and it was amazing to see some familiar faces! If  you've read 'End Game' you've already met the main characters of this book. Ryan Justice's sister, Amelia, and his best friend, Chandler.

Chandler is a pro-hockey player for the IceCats. A year ago he went through a nasty divorce, and he's ready to move on. When he lays eyes on Amelia Justice for the first time in years, he wants to rekindle what they had before. It was just a kiss in college, she was his best friend's little sister, but they both felt something. Amelia also went through a nasty divorce recently where she suffered unspeakable abuse. As you can imagine, she isn't so ready to move on. Though her cousin and bff Shellie talks her into dating Chandler. A rebound could be exactly what she needs. She learns quickly, Chandler is not the rebound kind of guy.
If I thought sleeping with him as a rebound would be only sex, I’m a complete idiot. This guy is no rebound.

My heart hurt for Amelia. She has been through so much. I could completely understand her hesitation about dating again, but I was so glad she gave Chandler a chance. He was perfect for her. Chandler and Amelia both had amazing parents with ideal relationships, but for some reason, they got it wrong the first time. This time, however, they are both determined to get it right. Their love story was beautiful. Watching Amelia heal was inspiring. And Chandler. Sigh. He was just a wonderful man.

The family, and friends/teammates that become family element of these books is my favorite thing ever. I loved seeing all of my favorite characters again and meeting some new characters as well. After reading, I am dying for a Shellie book! I seriously cannot wait! This story had the absolute swooniest and bestest hero and a heroine that had so much strength. I really loved the book and am looking forward to more!

This book is flowing with so much cheesy romance. I thought the story would be a bit forbidden romance. Instead it is also about domestic abuse.

I do love Chandler. He is such a swoony chracter. His love for Amelia is mind blowing. He is also patience with her. Waiting for her to opens up and finally fallong in love. The chemistry is great.

I want more twist/ plot. All of that cheesy goodness is bit too much. Overall it is still OK read.

Juicy Rebound was the first book in the new spinoff series by Toni Aleo, the IceCats.

We met Chandler Moon in End Game (book four, Bellevue Bullies series) when he signed for the IceCats while playing college hockey for the Bellevue Bruisers. Fast forward five years and he was a year out of a divorce and still playing for the IceCats.

Amelia Justice was also in End Game. She was the little sister to Ryan, was on a college gymnastic scholarship and although attracted to Chandler was totally off limits as a little sister. At the end of End Game, against the wishes of her family, she ran off and married her ex, a newly signed NHL player in Pennsylvania. Fast forward five years and she was divorced, hiding from the world and estranged from her very close family.

Two broken people. One who wouldn’t risk again. Another who was willing for the right person. The journey was an adventure in friendship as barriers were slowly being broken down and a foundation of honest attraction, trust and hope was being firmly planted.

I thoroughly enjoyed both Chandler and Amelia and their journey. Aleo also used this time for us to get to know Shelli Adler, oldest daughter to Shea and Elli Adler (Assassins book one, Taking Shots). How can we not fall in love with her crazy sassiness. I know she crushed on Aiden Brooks (son to Fallon and Lucas, Assassins book two, Trying to Score) but I would love to see her with Nico. Hopefully we’ll get Nico’s story soon. In the meantime, next up is Aleo’s newest series, Nashville Assassins: The Next Generation with book one Dump and Chase.

3.5-4 Chandler & Amelia Stars

This was a sweet, sexy & romantic story. It was great to catch up with characters from the Assassins Series ( Shea Adler is Amelia’s uncle) and the Bellevue Bullies.

Chandler is best friends with Amelia’s big brother & they were all at College together. Amelia was off limits but they stole a kiss & it could have been so much more. The timing was all wrong and Amelia instead pursued a relationship , and then marriage, with her High School boyfriend. This turns out to be a mistake of epic proportions.

Fast forward a few years , both are now out of toxic marriages. They meet and connect. Told in dual POV we see Chandler doing a lot of the pursuing. The story is romantic at times , sexy and quite sad in places. Amelia has been isolated for so long & it’s heart warming to see her return to her former self.

Lots of funny dialogue , minimal angst and great secondary characters.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? No
Triggers? Yes - Domestic abuse. Miscarriage (both off the page)

This is the first book in a new series by Toni Aleo but fans of the author will recognize this couple right away. We have met Chandler and Amelia in the Bullies series. Chandler is est friends with Ryan Justice and Amelia is Ryan's sister. We also see the rest of Amelia's family and Assassin's series tie in. So basically one big epilogue making readers so very happy.

This book brings the best of all worlds together. We get quite a bit of hockey. We get classic second chance love. And for once we get a strong hero, not so broken, who is there to help our heroine heal her heart. It helps a great deal that these two already know each other. Once trust comes into play, they are as good as gold taking things a step further.

Loved seeing all the familiar faces. You are ok to read this as a stand alone but my God why? Pick up all the books by this author and have a long binge read. You will thank me later.

Loved everything about this one. Can't wait to see more from this new team.

ARC received for an honest review

I have been a huuuuge fan of Ms Aleo's Assassins series, and she has not disappointed me with this first IceCats book (though in my head I am calling this Assassins: The Next Generation).

We have already had the story of Ryan Justice, and now we have the story of his sister and his best friend.

Oh how I love Amelia and Chandler. Right from the very first time we meet them in Juicy Rebound, I was hooked.

The Justice family is a strong one, however the past few years has seen them fracture. Amelia is so strong, yet has been emotionally broken. My heart hurts for her (and the rest of the Justice family) as they try to find their way back to each other.

Chandler - le sigh. After what he has been through, you can't blame him for being gun shy when it comes to women - well, except for his Amelia.

Their story is one of loving when you don't feel like you are worthy. Not just intimate love, but also familial love.

This book really pulled at my heartstrings, as I went from laughter to tears, sometimes in the space of just a chapter or two.

I did enjoy seeing a little of my first Assassins love, Shea. Oh that man 😍😍😍

This was a fantastic start to this new series, and I am looking forward to where the IceCats take us next.

This is the ultimate second chance romance. The one that got away romance. The get you in the feels romance.

“Or I just had to go through some sh*t ones before I got to the real deal.”

Chandler Moon is yummy and so damn swoon worthy. You thought you loved Ryan Justice well his best friend is even swoonier. <-( I just made that up.) Amelia Justice has been through so much and in the end she has come out stronger woman. Together these two complete the other. They’re like long lost soul mates finally fining their other half.

Toni knows her hockey and why she writes epic hockey stories with a side of sexy. Her characters are relateable and her stories are inviting. Amelia and Chandler have a special love that only you can dream of.

God this book made my heart so happy. I loved the story. I loved the characters, the Justices and the Adlers. I loved the tension, the chemistry. I just loved everything about it. Gah my heart is so full.

I can’t wait for more of this generation.

5 star Review Juicy Rebound (IceCats #1) by Toni Aleo

I know this will be hard to believe, but this is the first book I have read by Toni Aleo. I thought this was a good opportunity to make a start since it is book one in her new series IceCats. This is Chandler Moon and Amelia Justice’s story.

A second chance at love story which captured my attention from the first chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed Toni Aleo’s style of writing and Juicy Rebound was a joy to read.

Amelia is the one who got away and yet now she has returned, a broken, disillusioned woman, she also happens to be the sister of Ryan Justice, Chandler’s best friend and therefore should be off limits to Chandler. However………..

Chandler is so swoon worthy that he just about melted my heart at times. Amelia has been through more than she should have had to endure and yet she is so much stronger for it. All the characters were well developed and easy to relate too.

This was an entertaining story that I thoroughly enjoyed and I will be looking to read more books from Toni Aleo as and when time permits. I cannot wait to read more in this series.

This one really ended up being sweet, but I think the thing I liked most about it was how Amelia and Chandler had a solid friendship first. I also loved that at every turn Chandler was there supporting Amelia, always telling her good things. After hearing his mother's story, you can tell that is where he got that from and something that Amelia desperately needed in her life. As their relationship changed I found myself really rooting for these two as a couple, that the could work past their issues and what Amelia's family might think.

The ending to this one was so great, from the wedding to the welcome home, it couldn't happen to better people.

Juicy Rebound (IceCats, #1) by Toni Aleo Toni Aleo scores with JUICY REBOUND, the first book in the IceCats series. I had been looking forward to reading Amelia Justice’s story since reading WHEN YOU'RE READY, which was released in the Hockey Holidays Anthology. WHEN YOU'RE READY is Amelia’s parents’ book. The ending of the novella started Amelia’s story prior to JUICY REBOUND. In JUICY REBOUND, Amelia runs into her college crush and brother’s best friend, Chandler Moon, who is a defenseman for the South Carolina IceCats. Amelia’s brother is Ryan Justice from book four in the Bellevue Bullies series, END GAME. Both, Amelia and Chandler are in that story.I loved JUICY REBOUND. Amelia and Chandler are both divorced and scarred from their previous marriages. They were interested in each other in college but since Chandler is Ryan’s best friend, Amelia was off limits. I love that these two get a chance together. Ryan and Amelia are the perfect people to help each other heal. The character development was noteworthy. Amelia is the niece of Shea Adler (TAKING SHOTS, Nashville Assassins book #1); needless to say a lot of the characters have been around for a while and made many appearances in multiple books and series. Toni Aleo does a fantastic job of making the characters feel believable and grow throughout the series. They are not perfect. They are relatable. The characters have weaknesses and strengths. They have high and low points. In this story, Amelia is trying to come off a low point. She hasn’t spoken to her family in four years. She’s embarrassed and trying to make a new life for herself. Chandler is at a high point in his career but not in his personal life. Chandler is an amazing guy. He is patient and kind. Amelia has lost her confidence and on the journey to healing. The plot was relevant and skillfully executed. I love the similarities between Amelia’s and Chandler’s story and her parents’ life. Amelia is a lot like her mom and Chandler is like Amelia’s dad, James. It’s sweet and heartwarming. I don’t think I have read a book by Toni Aleo that hasn’t made me cry; JUICY REBOUND was no exception. I love that Toni Aleo’s books tug your heartstrings. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I am a big fan of The Assassins Series and with a book that includes the next generation is something all romance lover should be behind. Amelia and Chandler is a pair that missed it with timing and youthful mistakes. The second chance is coming at the right time in helping each move forward and on in the best ways.

Now this! This is the kind of hero I can get on board with! I will preface this review with a little background info. I just read Juicy Rebound after finishing Dump and Chase. Backwards... But whatever I didn't know 🤷🏻‍♀️ It worked out for me though.

Chandler was amazing. He is the stuff book boyfriend's are made of. Sweet, caring, patient and loving. Not 👏🏻 Afraid 👏🏻 Of 👏🏻 His 👏🏻 Feelings 👏🏻. He knew what he wanted, Amelia. He wasn't afraid to go after her. He was kind and understanding and patient with her. With all that, he was still alpha, hot and possessive. I loved him. His parents raised a good boy lol.

Amelia... Oh girl. I really liked her. She told herself she was broken and unworthy. She wasn't, she just needed the right push to get back to the woman she was before she was beaten down. Her ex did a number on her and in those types of situations, it takes time to heal and move on. She took her time. Yes she tried to initially push Chandler the great away, but that didn't last so long. And she was skittish, but she knew her feelings for him were there, she just needed him to be what he was, patient and perfect, willing to help her get herself to the point where she believed in herself like he did. I loved them together. He was exactly what she needed and vice versa.

I really loved Shelli in this book and her badass self. 🙌🏻 Since I read these books backward, it was fun to see Shelli and Nico meet and see how that started. Nico is a hoot. The other side characters were great and I loved Chandler's parents. This book was really fun and enjoyable. I admit, I teared up several times throughout. It was emotional, funny and so so good.

Juicy Rebound (IceCats #1) by Toni Aleo

Juicy Rebound spells a second chance for two battered hearts. Chandler and Amelia wear the scars of a broken and a bruised soul. He's the guy that has it all, except for the one thing he really wants. She's the woman with a ton of love to give, but a spirit in need of rebuilding. When the one that got away walks back into your life at the most inconvenient of times, can a new beginning be on the horizon? Aleo prides herself on finding strength in weakness. Her characters give a voice to the overlooked, inspiring and hopeless hearts in need of a helping hand or a kind word.

In hockey, a rebound occurs when ‘the puck bounces off the boards or the goalkeeper's equipment,’ either providing the offense a second opportunity to score or placing the puck on one of the defenseman’s sticks forcing play to head towards the other end of the ice. A rebound that’s ‘juicy’ is one where scoring a goal is at a premium, putting the pressure solely on the shoulders of the player who snags the rebound, hoping the puck hits the back of the net.

In personal relationships, a rebound makes someone feel second best...someone who is USED to get over the person who dumped the user…someone who will never be enough because they’re merely a distraction…a way to move on and still feel comforted in some way, even if it’s only a physical comfort.

Thankfully, when it comes to a rebound in hockey, Chandler Moon is quite apt at maneuvering those to his team’s advantage…now, do they sometimes take a bad bounce and end up hurting the IceCats? Absolutely, but Chandler’s an excellent defenseman, which means he knows how to do his job.

Personally, Chandler Moon may be up for a rebound or two since his divorce, but it’s beyond clear that he is not really a rebound kind of guy and when it comes to Amelia Justice, his best friend’s little sister and the object of his past infatuation, Chandler doesn’t view her as a rebound and he’s hellbent on proving that fact to Amelia as well, even if he leads Amelia to believe that, that’s all they’ll be if that’s what she needs in order to give him a chance.

The fact that Amelia is more than a little gun-shy when it comes to relationships is understandable. She lost herself, her family, and her passion for a sport she loved, and that’s going to take time to come back from, because not only does she have to heal from the loss of her marriage, but the heartbreak from her family making her choose between her ex and them and that ultimatum destroyed her and made her feel utterly alone, which means that the path of forgiveness and healing will take time to work through, but it seems Amelia is ready…she just may need a bit of a push to get things started…thankfully, a certain professional hockey player will help Amelia in any and all ways that he can.

Chandler and Amelia rushed into their respective marriages when they were younger, completely wrapped up in what they thought would be their forever love, but now they’re both on a new journey in life and hopefully in love and the fact that there was a connection between them back in college and it’s one that continues in the present helps readers to hold on tight as Amelia heals a bit more and figures out that even though she thought she was only looking for a rebound that what she was really searching for and hoping for was to get a second chance with Chandler Moon.

I’ll never get enough of Toni Aleo’s sports romances and the way she includes the characters’ hockey family members and their actual families. Both groups are pivotal to the success of the hero and heroine, which means that all actions taken to push the main characters and/or to make them aware of everything that is happening around them is done with good intentions, even if the male and female leads don’t feel that way in the beginning or even at the end.

Juicy Rebound is a great start to Aleo’s new hockey romance series, and I’m excited to see where she takes her IceCats both personally and professionally.

I think at least half of my book reviews are Toni Aleo books. What can I say I LOVE HER!!! ‘Assassins’ series is my all time favorite series and you can find reviews of all the books from the series in my previous posts. For ‘Assassins’, my wish was for it to never end and come on when you have a whole bunch of hockey players, who starts falling in love left and right and then start popping out babies then you start wondering what is happening with the kids. Sooooo now Toni Aleo presents her brand new series 'IceCats' which is Amelia Grace Justice and Chandler Eugene Moon’s story. Before getting into my review, I want to let you know how this story is connected to the previous books. Also, if you haven’t read the previous books, no worries this book can be read as a standalone. Amelia is niece of Shea Adler, famous captain of the Nashville Assassins. We first meet Amelia when she is a baby in Shea and Elli’s story ‘Taking Shots’, first book of Assassins series. Then again we see bits and pieces her and also meet out hero Chandler in ‘End Game’, which is Amelia’s brother and Chandler’s best friend Ryan’s story. And there is also an novella, which I totally recommend all of you to read, about Amelia’s parents, Grace and James, ‘How We Fell In Love’.

Amelia left everything behind, her family, college, gymnastic team, her friends to follow her high school boyfriend Drew when an NHL team drafted him. Her only wish was to have what her mom and dad had. However, after marrying Drew, she realized that she made a huge mistake. Drew, the a**hole, broke her. Now after her divorce, she is hiding in a small town and trying to piece her life back together. Only person who is on her corner is her cousin Shelli, until the day Chandler, the one she should have chosen, walks in to the coffee shops she works at. Chandler went through a hell of a marriage too. Now that he has been a divorcee for a year, he is ready to get back to dating life. What he didn’t anticipate was to run in to Amelia, the one who got away. In college he only got a kiss from Amelia, but she was his best friend's little sister and totally off limits but now he is all in. He wants to be with her. Even though, he doesn’t know what went down between Drew and Amelia, he can see that Amelia is not ready. With Chandler being back in her life, all the feeling she was feeling for him back as well. Their chemistry is still sizzling hot. He is still same kind, funny and loyal. And Amelia thinks she is not good enough for him. But thanks to Shelli and her persuasion, Amelia decides to give Chandler a chance. Even though, they both have amazing marriage examples in front of them, they both got burned with their first time. They are so good for each other. The way Amelia gets her life back together and start healing with Chandler’s help and love was inspirational. What I love the most with all Toni Aleo books are, she always shows us the importance of family and friendship. Family doesn’t always have to be by blood and this story is an amazing example of that. It was amazing to see little bit of my all time favorite couple Elli and Shea. Also, Nico Merryweather, aka Merry, who is Chandler’s teammate and Shelli’s hook-up, is an amazing character. At the end of ‘Juicy Rebound’ you will learn that the next book will be for Shelli. I just hope that her hero will be Merry and not Aiden Brooks. I love Aiden but somehow in my mind he is matched with Posey. Sorry my Assassins fan crazy persona is out and unloading all the names at you :) If you want me to wrap it up quickly Posey is Shelli’s sister and Aiden is Shelli’s crush since childhood. But Shelli and Merry seems amazing so I am voting for them :)

For me ‘Juicy Rebound’ was one of the most anticipated books for me and I am proud to say, it didn’t disappoint. It was everything I was expecting and more. ‘Juicy Rebound’ was sweet, inspiring, sexy, heartbreaking, heartwarming, and so much more.

I make it no secret that I absolutely love the books Toni writes for us.
And I always get super excited when the next one hits my kindle. They're just such consuming books. And I always get completely swept away in them.

It's just the way she writes her books. They suck you in to these incredible stories that give you so much romance and sweetness, and of course a huge sweeping helping of actual hockey.
But it's her characters too. They always are some of the most relatable characters I read. And there's always something about at least one of their journeys that I can somehow see my own life choices in. That gives me this just special connection, and makes me really adore the characters that much more.

And Juicy Rebound gave me all those things and more.

It just pulled me in. And maybe it's because of the familiarity with these characters or what. But I think it really just comes down to how good the story itself is. It's real, and heartbreaking, and romantic, and sexy, and fun.... and just so many things create so many layers. You want to cheer and cry for these characters. To hug them, and shake them.

I was talking to a fellow blogger about the book as we were reading our arcs. And I'm always kinda a brat about this next gen stuff. I always complain because I can never wrap my mind around who's related who and whatnot and how I just need a fun little family tree graphic to remember it all. But then I get into to these books, and I'm so sucked in. And who cares who aunt or uncle is who's. Just give me more hockey and romance haha. And that's probably my favorite part.
Yeah I get to see all these familiar faces and try to put them together. But each of these amazing books toni has given us have been their own living and breathing identity. And you lose yourself learning them and just wanting to get to know these new characters. And have a little fun popping in on the old ones fictional lives haha.

And let's talk those characters. Since I've just been rambling so far haha.

Amelia and Chandler are some of my favorites to date.
And that's saying a lot considering Amelieas aunt and uncle and all those hunky Assassins players that predate them haha.

But the love and compassion these two can show for others just kinda made me swoon.

Chandler is 100% some white night prince charming material. And Amelia is kind and so incredibly strong.
They work so well together. And just the chemistry there in general is h.o.t.t! Haha

It's late. And I'm sure I'll be coming back to this review as I prep for my actual blog post. Since half of this is probably just random gushing babble haha.

JUICY REBOUND is a for sure a

Can two people who’ve gone through previous heartbreaks and divorces find love again?

Chandler Moon and Amelia Justice first met in college. He is her brother’s best friend and teammate. Amelia was an amazing gymnast and there on a full scholarship. They shared their first kiss at a college party and then she left.

Fast forward a few years later, Chandler is a defenseman in the NHL and is divorced and is moving in from his psycho ex-wife.

By chance he sees Amelia working in a coffee shop. Even though she is no longer the confident girl she was in college, he is still completely drawn to her. After asking her out, and Amelia turning him down, he finally wears her down.

As they continue their romance, Amelia’s dark past and her own divorce come to light. She never wanted anyone to know the reason she left her ex-husband, but after an altercation between him and her cousin, the truth is somewhat revealed.

Without giving away any of this amazing story, I will say, this is one that will tug at your heart strings, piss you off, and make you believe that love can truly conquer all. It’s a story about second chances and finding yourself again.

I loved this story!!!!

Chandler, Chandler, Chandler, yes please!!! What a swoon-worthy man!!

Juicy Rebound was everything that I didn't know I needed! This friends to lovers read was absolutely AMAZING! Chandler and Amelia are both getting over marriages that just didn't work for a million different reasons and wind up running into one another at Amelia's job.

These two have had sparks before and things have not changed in that department at all! Chandler is completely swoon-worthy, has the patience of a saint, and wants Amelia something fierce. The only problem is she is his best friends little sister. Amelia while attracted to Chandler, is absolutely petrified to get involved with Chandler.

There story is one that will bring you through quite the array of emotions and I loved every single second of it. These two will help each other mend their broken pieces and I was so happy to take that journey with them. They are each strong for one another when needed and care for each other deeply.

Toni Aleo scored some major goals with this read. The writing was phenomenal, the characters and character development were perfection and I cannot wait to see what will come our way next! Beautiful job!

This will definitely be in my top reads of 2019 and since it's the beginning of the year, that's some major praise!

If you want a series with diverse and complex characters, stories about love, friendship and family - Toni Aleo's intertwined hockey series is definitely the jackpot in that area. There are a lot of books and lots of amazing stories to get caught in.

I'm a little bit addicted to this hockey series right now and I just can't get enough. I've been rereading the books I already have read and now I have started on the ones I haven't got to yet.

The Adler/Justice family is my favourite and I love how supporting and over-loving they are of each other. That makes me feel so happy whenever I open of these books. I can't help but love Chandler, he is so perfect and sweet and romantic, my heart just melts when he is with Amelia. And I just have to give a shoutout to my badass queen Shelli Adler, she is amazing and now I want to reread her book AGAIN.

Holy Hotness with a hockey stick! Chandler Moon is the ultimate BBF! He had me swooning into a puddle from the start and I couldn't get enough of him! After he runs into the one that got away, his determination to get back what they had was so incredibly sweet, and sexy that I worried the pages of my kindle were going to catch fire.
My heart ached for all that Amelia had been through and I couldn't wait to see her find some happy.
These two are absolutely perfect for each other. After some pretty nasty divorces they are both a bit damaged and I loved watching them heal as they fell in love.
Juicy Rebound is an amazing start to this new series and I can't wait to see what Aleo brings us next!
P.S. I so hope we get Shellie's story soon.

4 1/2 star

Chandler Moon is a hot hockey defense man for the SC IceCats who just wanted coffee after practice. He didn't plan on seeing Amelia Justice aka the one who got away six years ago. Both are coming off of horrible marriages that were emotional and mentally taxing. Learning to trust in each other is going to teach both of them many lessons for this young adults.

Aleo classic style of characters with emotional depth and real human flaws draws the reader in and makes them want for more. I loved getting to see characters I have fallen in love with over the years in this new series. I can't wait for more in the IceCats.
