A dead body that never decays. A magic trick with horrific consequences. An apartment with a...unique roach problem. Finding a serial killer's cell phone. Visiting a childhood friend who insists you really must see what's in a nearby tunnel. This book contains twenty-five terrifying new horror stories by Brandon Faircloth, all of them short enough to be enjoyed a bite at a time...if you're able to put them down at all.
Sorry, this book falls short in many categories. The stories are just so-so. I've heard that this author wants to follow in the footsteps of Stephen King but this is far from those footsteps. A Stephen King level of writing is probably unattainable for us mere mortals. But the author's writing, itself, is marginal and it must have been self-published because there are so many non-typo grammatical mistakes that never would have made it past an editor (frequently using "it's" and "its" improperly, writing "slight of hand" instead of "sleight of hand", saying "Me and Jill went out" instead of "Jill and I went out") It's not a very smooth read and is downright painful for those of us who still follow basic grammar rules. If it's supposed to sound like one person very informally relating their experiences to another person, not in published book form, then it has accomplished that. I'm not sure I can finish it...
The best thing about this book is the cover art. I really wanted to enjoy this read, but the conclusion of many stories fell flat and the execution needed more work. Some stories ended abruptly, as if the author gave up midway through writing and just published his first draft without editing at all. Actually, this project reads as if it wasn’t edited by professionals of the genre, which is frustrating as a reader. The few stories that I did like were ruined with lackluster endings, as well. I gave up on this book after a handful of stories and skipping around. Will not finish and cannot recommend. There are better horror anthologies out there. [Read via Kindle Unlimited.]
I love horror stories but I am very A.D.D. So I have to read things that keep my interest and keep me going to the next story. It’s a great coping mechanism to help. This book was exactly as it says and reading “One Bite at a Time” was fun to read, different and creepy. I highly recommend
I love Horror books. So I was excited to find a new author. I've been in a rut with Horror books. There either to short or just plain stupid and gross and over the top to be edgy. This was a real well written book of short stories that I really enjoyed. I look forward to more from this author.
Very impressed with this writer. Stories well written and great characters. Totally enjoyed this book. Looking forward to more. Keep writing and thank you for sharing your gift with us.
The character development was very good, especially since the stories are so short. The stories are dark, but compelling, and I was sorry there were not more.
I was really plesantly surprised - I absolutely loved this! Never heard of the author before but was reccomended this from a facebook friend. It is a super solid collection of short stories, and none of them felt trite or cliche ridden.
