'Magic in Mussoorie is just what its name suggests. Explore it fearlessly and reap the rewards!'

Nakul Sahej and his friend Kuku stumble upon an antique book while on holiday in Mussoorie. The book turns out to be a magical one that transports the two back in time to the Mussoorie of over a century ago. Meeting historical personalities of that time—like Sir George Everest, who lives in a sprawling estate on the outskirts of Mussoorie, as well as the young maharaja of Punjab, Duleep Singh, who has been exiled by the British and is spending a summer in the hill station—Nakul and Kuku get involved in an intriguing adventure that sets off a series of events which can change the course of history!

Action-packed and unputdownable, this thrilling adventure is the first in a series of comic books set in the Garhwal Himalayas.

Area A: Text
The text has been organized in simple sentences. It is commendable how well the author has woven the details from our history into a fictitious account. With a compelling and impeccable narrative, the author does justice with all the characters in the story and leaves the readers wanting for more.

Area B: Illustrations
The cover of the book neatly presents the main idea of the plot. The comic strips strike the right chord and have been brilliantly done. Kudos to Vikas Upadhyay for making the story more interesting with the help of his brush.

It is not often that the Indian comic books space throws up an interesting work by a duo of debutantes.Scripted imaginatively and illustrated well, the book is thoroughly enjoyable with a little bit of history thrown in for good measure. The concept is interesting and developed craftily with a fair sprinkling of healthy wit.Written ostensibly for children not yet in their teens, the work can be easily enjoyed by the adult comic buffs too.(the present writer is in his sixties).Juxtaposition of magical dimensions with earthly ones is handled adeptly. The script does well in taking the reader backwards and forwards in time without jarring him.On a milder note ,the work will be still better appreciated by readers who have been to Mussoorie and are familiar with the landmarks of queen of hills.Conversely, readers who will visit Mussoorie after reading the book are sure to enjoy the town a lot more.

A promising work by the newcomers.

Intriguing and exciting, ‘Magic in Mussoorie’ by Atul Sethi is the first in a series of comic books set in the Garhwal Himalayas. A book for all ages, this one has the power to engage young minds with the adventure it holds within its pages and the twists and turns it promises. As for readers like me who have long crossed the threshold of childhood, it offers a trip down memory lane to a time when comic strips and comic books were the rage and one did not mind reading them on the sly even on the eve of exam days, well hidden between the pages of text books, far from the probing eyes of elders.

Beautifully illustrated, ‘Magic in Mussoorie’ takes us on a short but sweet ride across time and the place mentioned in the title, introducing us to the likes of Sir George Everest and Duleep Singh, the young Maharaja of Punjab. What begins as a state of curiosity for Nakul our protagonist and Kuku his bosom mate, suddenly turns out to be an adventure and revelation. Drawn deep into the intrigue, they encounter danger and death and also get a glimpse of the ‘Kohinoor’. What happens next?........Let the book do the talking. :)

Action packed and thrilling, ‘Magic in Mussoorie’ has a climax that’s as baffling as the story and of course some hilarious moments too. While characterization and conversation complement each other; the illustrations do justice to them.

So is there something that I still yearn for after reading the book?

Well yes. I’d have loved to see a bit more interaction between Sir George Everest and the children. It would have added more clarity to the character he was.

This comic book tries to tell the history mixed with time travel to the past. The art is good but the story is boring. It is more of an children's book with the writing only for children to make them aware of the past. I haven't enjoyed it that much. But ot reminds me of my childhood where I enjoyed these type of stories as well. Will delete it from my collection.
