ROMANCE: HISTORICAL ROMANCE: The Dowager's Son

Rate this book
Isabelle, new wife to David, Duke of Kent, has run into an unexpected problem in her marriage: her mother-in-law, Dowager Duchess Theodosia. Forced to spend her days as the captive audience of a tirelessly demanding, malignant narcissist.

Isabelle, new wife to David, Duke of Kent, has what outsiders would consider a “good” marriage: position, lands, big houses in both London and Kent, and money from both her husband and her father. Yet her day to day life has become a nightmare, one which threatens to tear apart both her marriage and her health.

Yet day after day, her husband leaves her alone from breakfast to sunset with no other company than heartless and often irrational Theodosia, who saps her strength and happiness with her bizarre behavior and constant demands for attention

But all is not lost, for her husband is not heartless; merely without understanding, or recourse to do much in a time when the treatment of the mad is so inhumane as to give even the most desperate son pause.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is a stand-alone story with an HEA, so no cliff-hangers! Story contains mature themes and language, and is intended for 18+ readers only.

Awful! Don't waste your time!

First off, this is not a full length book. It's basically a very long chapter. The formatting is absolutely horrible and the character development is nonexistent. The storyline is trite and is nothing better than a "bodice-ripper" from way, way way back in the day when romance novels had a bad name. Thankfully I got this for free. Giving this even one star is too generous but I had to in order to post.

The Dowagers Son spiller Alert...

The Duke married a soft spoken woman. They love each other but there is a problem in their home and lives. The Dowager her self is the problem. She is rude outspoken, mean to everyone. Her daughter-in-law takes the brunt of her punishment. She talks about everyone and the Duchess is just to nod and smile.

When she tells her husband he just says she needs to pretty much suck it up and deal with it because it is her duty.
She has been getting awful head aches and threatened to kill her self if her husband doesn’t step up and take care of the problem.
He gets a doctor and the doctor gives her sleeping drought and smelling vinegar for her self. They end up drugging the Dowager and this is the end of the story.

Unsatisfactory

I wondered as I was reading how this story would end. The story seems incomplete. There is a temporary solution to a seemingly long term problem. It just seems like there should have been more.

Good Story!

In this all too short of a story the best part was the last pages. Drugging the Dowager and having quite time was funny as all get out. She was a menace!! Isabelle and David finally had alone time. I enjoyed reading this book and now I’m on to the next one. 💜💜💜

The Dowager's Son

Good book. The way you made the daughter-in-law had a lot to endure with the madness. But in the end, love prevailed.
