DEAR STAR: An ordinary fan, an extraordinary star, a love not meant to be ...

Rate this book
Can we really let go of the past? Rose Leigh is a proud and rather sensitive girl, who’s always had a talent for writing. Her life takes a turn for the worse when her family goes bankrupt, and she suddenly finds herself all alone, quite contrary to the sheltered life she’s led so far. At one of the lowest points in her life, she comes face to face with the star she has always idolized. He is the one person who has always brought comfort and happiness to her. But, much to Rose’s shock, in that one meeting he shatters her adulation for him, and hurts her pride in such a way she never recovers. Rose finally realises she has been investing her time, faith and emotions in a delusion, for years. Much later, when fate throws them together again, Rose is no longer the person she was. But she realizes that people don't change as fast as circumstances do, and that to realize a dream and find justice, she must fight the deepest part of her being once again. In the battle between self and love, what should she choose?

Liya grew up in Sri Lanka, with her parents and older brother. She started writing at the age of 12 and much like Rose in Dear Star she had a habit of turning small incidents from her life into stories. She loved English, reading (especially her Mum’s old Mills and Boon collection from the 60s) and drama, and had found her calling as a Drama teacher, when she got married to her best friend and moved to England.

She was settling into her life as a housewife and Mum, when on an otherwise uneventful evening in London she spotted a young girl in a pink coat and black Louboutins, walking down the street in the rain and was first inspired to create Rose.

Ever since, she’s juggled looking after the four-and-a-half-year-old love of her life with writing. Currently she is busy trying to do justice to Rose and Ron in the sequel to Dear star, True Rose.

This story portraits how a person feels and their mentality when they are betrayed by the person they’ve idolized as a teenager, and the kind of repercussion it has on them followed by how they lead their life into adulthood.

I read the book till the end then went back and read the current story in the future at the beginning. That I believe made a big impact understanding the perspective.

Recurring theme - how a person handles or struggles with betrayal not just once but twice by the almost only people they’ve had so much faith on.

Great read and looking forward to the next book.

I soaked up every word,As i was reading the book I felt It had everything a reader needs to keep them turning the pages.

The story takes us on a journey of an ordinary girl's life and her love to a sensational star.I like both the main characters Rose and Ron. But more the protagonist Rose who drew me in from the first page. Also who i root for and stay up until morning wanting to see whether she make it or not.

I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
I look forward to next book from this author.

Dear Star made me stay up all night because it was a true roller coaster ride. The portrait of the characters, especially the heroine was brilliant. Hats off to the way of suppressing her emotions yet letting hints of desire escape through her reserved self.

Too much of descriptive writing at the beginning made me hesitant to read at first, but the true magic revealed before my eyes within the next few chapters. Since then I couldn’t stop reading.

Love those delicate details which brought more depth to the story. Every writer has a piece of themselves in their writing, and Rose/Liya Page made sure the reader feels that. And the Romance between Rose and Ron is contagious.

My favorite parts are the Bond girl incident (love her out bdw) and especially the emotional writing on grandma’s love and departure.

Can’t wait till book two.
