Dr. Charles F. Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries, and a New York Times best-selling author who has written more than fifty books, and has sold more than nine million copies. He demonstrates a keen awareness of people's needs and provides Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.
Charles Frazier Stanley was born September 25, 1932, in the small town of Dry Fork, Virginia. The only child of Charley and Rebecca Stanley, Charles came into the world during a time when the entire nation felt the grip of the Great Depression. To make matters worse, just nine months later, his father Charley died at the young age of 29.
However, Charles refused to let the Great Depression or the difficulties of his life define him. Instead, like his father and grandfather before him, he clung to God’s Word and took up the mantle to preach the gospel to whoever would listen.
Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”
Dr. Stanley’s teachings can be heard weekly at First Baptist Church Atlanta, daily on “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” radio and television broadcasts on more than 2,800 stations around the world, on the Internet at intouch.org, through the In Touch Messenger, and in the monthly, award-winning In Touch magazine.
I have not been this straight through but using it a little each day as a study guide, giving time to think about things and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to me as I consider the verses and points raised. Most of this was a not so much new teaching as reinforcing what I already knew, and that is always a valid and useful experience. We so easily forget do we need reminding, at least I do. There was one bit in particular I found really interesting and something I had not thought of before. ‘Every person who crosses your path has been allowed to cross your path by the Holy Spirit for a purpose that has benefit to you. ‘ p.118. ‘There is something you are to learn or acquire from every conversation, and every encounter, with another saint of God.’ That certainly puts a new light on things. On the flip side the Lord ‘ was preparing you to serve in His church, He was preparing others to receive what you have to give. He has paved the way for your ministry to be effective.’ I found this to be clearly written book, easy to understand. It was an encouragement and a challenge at times as I live my Christian life. A recommended read. It can also be used in a study group with others, which would be a good idea.
As a longtime fan of Dr. Stanley, and having read several of his books before, I had high expectations. They were more than met. The book was incredible and very insightful. I read this on my own, but I wish I had read this book as part of a bible study. It seems perfect for that format. I highly recommend.
This is one of my favorite books my Bible study group has ever used. The first part was a little strange with trying to picture the Holy Spirit as a person, but there were lots of good things to be learned from this book. I definitely recommend it for an intermediate or advanced Bible study group.
As always Dr Charles Stanley books never disappoint. The knowledge and insight he provides I know only comes from time in God’s Word and the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit.
Finally closed this book/workbook tonight. I legitimately feel like I have an entire new found love for the Holy Spirit- and so much more knowledge. I didn’t understand it wasn’t a feeling- it’s an person, living breathing person, part of the father & the son, completely inseparable -
Seems mundane .. but give it time and do the work- it’s so worth it. Not one you can rush so get your mind ready and open 🙏♥️🫂
