The Dominant Doctor Volume1: The Doctor's New Boy ~and~ Doctor's Orders

Rate this book
It was a routine ENT appointment gone very, very RIGHT? Christopher Stevenson is an international singing super star, better known to his fans as Christev. Regular check-ups are part of his life, just like meetings, concerts and recording sessions. His new ENT however, is nothing like anyone he's ever met before and even though he has no idea what he's getting into, Dr. Clemen's pull is inescapable. This is an 8 volume series with a HEA. It contains explicit sex scenes and a neuro-atypical MC. malexmale bdsm erotica There are many, many possible triggers in these volumes. Please be careful with yourselves. I doubt I can possibly cover them all here but here are a few you will definitely run CNC, cheating (one of the side characters), homophobia from family members, mental illness, spectrum disorder issues, medication issues, past abuse, mention of possible suicide, and death of a loved one to name a few. There are instances of safewords being used and not heard, and times when they weren’t used but should have been. I would like to mention that this is not a BDSM manual and I beg you to not try all these things at home (unless you know what you're doing). Finally, an important word about the depiction of autism within the series. Not all the characters use appropriate words or are sunshine/happy/perfect people when it comes to understanding ASD or describing those with spectrum disorders. If someone in the book having a problem with their friend dating someone on the spectrum (at first) or people assuming the person with autism doesn't have feelings or isn't capable of love (again, they learn better), these are not the books for you. I use the words 'high-functioning' and 'Aspergers' and the fact is that polite and proper or not, they are used in general society. These books are full of drama, and trauma, and healing and two men learning to love each other, but mostly themselves.

Just added a reading date since it wasn't showing in my read shelf. :(

*** 3.8 stars ****

Lesson learned, don't judge a book by his title.
Went for the smut, got that and a bonus.
Nice surprise.

Series rating 5⭐️ - it is not perfect, the editing got worse as the series went on but I LOVED these books. So 5⭐️

This is a series review

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ — for frequency, description and alllll the kinks. Im not gonna even try to make an exhaustive list.

I write reviews for me and I think this one will stay with me so I don’t feel the need to be super descriptive. The biggest things to know is that this is not just erotica. Sex is a BIG part of the story but the relationship between the main couple and the romance that builds was amazing. I fell absolutely inlove with Greg and Chris and I was so happy to see them get their HEA. They go through a lot emotionally get there!

For those familiar with Big Bang Theory, this is how I image things would have gone if Sheldon was a big ass dom instead a nerdy professor and if Amy was a twink that liked it rough.

Okay now for CW / spoilers
- M/M BDSM erotica featuring but not limited too:
⚠️ cock and ball torture
⚠️ watersports
⚠️ spankings, flogging, whipping, and paddling
⚠️ breath play
⚠️ CNC
⚠️ fisting, DP, and I think there is a triple penetration scene
⚠️ sounding
⚠️ D/S dynamics
⚠️ and more……..

- cheating ( not between the main couple but it managed to hurt the same)

- OM drama and Sharing. ( if you’re a person that likes the main couple to only be with eachother…… this may be an issue for you. This is typically a hard line for me but it worked for the story and they are eventually monogamous. But there’s is decent amount of time where Greg in particular is sleeping with multiple men at a time while with Chris. It wasn’t cheating though)

- depression, anxiety, and other mental illness

- suicidal ideation

- neuro atypical MMC

*** i think I missed some but that’s pretty good. The biggest thing to note is that the sexual scenes are pretty intense but ALL consensual. Dub con at best when one character did not feel safe but that was due to his own personal hang ups and NOT because the other character had not made it explicitly clear that he could ALWAYS use safe words.

If you do not like BDSM this books will not be for you. It’s not a just a kink for these characters and not a minor plot point. It’s a lifestyle for them.

This book is not easy to review, but deserves a more detailed explanation because of the high quality of the work. My review will include spoilers.
.
Greg is the doctor and from the first page there is a kind of feeling that there is something not quite normal about him. But it's hard to put your finger on it. He behaves a little bit too "rule bound", organizes things to the n-th degree and questions his own actions and what other people say to him a lot. His being different is also expressed in "same weekday = same breakfast" and that he has different colored door knobs in his house to keep subs out of his personal spaces as well as him not watching much TV.
Greg is a Dom and he has sex with a patient (Chris) [potential trigger], but later says this only happened 4 times. He believes he recognized Chris to be a sub and they embark on a Dom/sub relationship. Chris is not his only sub. Greg has two others, Jason and Eli. Within a short while he lets Jason go and Eli leaves of his own accord which leaves Greg with a lack of someone he can really flog a lot. Greg tries to replace Eli during the story.
Greg also heavily relies on Kevin, another Dom, and his sub Ollie, and Kevin is a big part of Greg's support system.
By now it is obvious that Greg is not your normal kind of guy/Dom and apart from no kissing and not letting Chris touch him, he appears to "talk about after care" but his style of aftercare feels cold and is rather short on praise and affection. By now I felt that Greg is an ass of a Dom, as he talks about aftercare, but doesn't give it properly, and I was tempted to DNF the book. But I hung in there and was rewarded with the explanation I needed.
Greg has a melt down. Here we find out that Greg is on the spectrum which explains a lot.
The story progresses from here. He realizes that Chris is not a sub but just likes to play but he keeps him on and we find that contrary to the belief that he can't form "boyfriend" relationships by book's end we get the distinct impression that he cares more for Chris than he would like to admit or is really capable of coping with adequately. He starts allowing Chris to do things that he wouldn't let a sub or anyone else do.
So there is a distinct change happening in Greg.
Greg's is said to have high functioning Asperger's, which is on the autism spectrum, and as such his idiosyncrasies are masterfully portrayed in the book. His constant internal struggles and the questioning and planning of everything around him appear to be one thing that keeps him functioning.
The scenes Greg has with Chris and later Alex are of high quality. However, and this is hard to explain, ... "and" AND "because" he has Asperger's there is a distinct lack of feeling in the scenes that would be there in a different setting. This is important because he has Asperger's but it also means that there is a sense of missing "feelings" and "connection" that as a reader I might have really wanted. I understand that this is how it has to be, however, as someone who has had contact with people with Asperger's maybe that lack of feeling is something that triggers me more than it would others.
We also get a lot of Chris's side of the story. His feelings, his struggles, his fears, his apprehension and his own melt-down when he witnesses a scene at the club and then feels that he caused Greg to be angry with him because he tried to touch Greg which was against the rules. He is not always being honest about his feelings and has to be pushed.
Greg, although he struggles a lot, finds ways to satisfy Chris and to get Chris to reveal his deepest desires and fulfills them. Chris finds this rather addictive, but the lack of emotional connection with Greg bugs him and he keeps pushing the boundaries.
This is a high quality book with lots of imagination in the scenes and although Greg does not satisfy me in the "emotional" department I have downloaded the second volume and want to read how he progresses.
Chris is a cuddly guy and if anyone can make Greg feel more comfortable about close contact, letting others touch him, finding outlets more appropriate, then it's Chris. The fact that when Greg allowed Chris and Alex to kiss each other on their own without him in the room after a scene and then is surprised to feel something he can't name that makes him angry (jealousy) is a positive start.
However, knowing that this series has at least 6 volumes I am apprehensive as to whether we get to read at the end that Greg no longer has Asperger's and is normal as a result of his relationship with Chris. Because that would be sad. Having said that seeing their relationship develop will be an interesting journey worth taking and my interest has been sparked a lot.
I have downloaded the next volume, but do need to insert at least one more emotionally satisfying book in between, so might not get into it immediately.

I am a huge BDSM book reader. And I'm exploring my own potential autism diagnosis. It's in the family. So I'm coming this book with both of those things in mind. I'm also polyamorous.

The autistic character for me, and how it was handled hit really wrong. As another review mentions, the dr dom is said to not have emotions but he's actually having emotions all the time. But because they're different kinds of emotions, or very strong emotions that he's been taught and coached to suppress, they're not acknowledged as emotions. They're called meltdowns.

I am not going to read the rest of the series, and I don't know if the author is pulling from their life and personal experience with autism, or if they did some research from some unfortunate sources, which, truly do exist and I don't necessarily fault the author for getting mixed up with stuff like Autism Speaks, etc. I appreciate that the autistic character is given a voice and a job that commands respect, and presented in many points as highly competent.

Frankly, I'm sitting with it and not exactly sure why it feels so very off and disrespectful. Sometimes the dom came off like a child and sometimes like a professional. Hm...I still can't entirely explain. There are good things but my weirded, unsettled factor means I will not continue to read.

Absolutely love this series

Second time reading this series and still love it as much. In fact Sammy D Adams is the reason why I got my kindle subscription in the first place, I wish Amazon had all the authors books available!
The first book is in Chris POV and because of some relevant information that Greg fails to share with Chris you can almost read it again, some things make a lot more sense second time and you can see where things went wrong. Book 1 ends with a cliffhanger and because book 2 is conveniently attached you can continue right away. They're binge material. The second book is in Greg's pov, gives you some more insights and is simply very well done. I like that you can see a big difference in writing between the two books but also when Chris and Greg communicate within the books, which really gives you the impression of two individuals! I equally loved both books for different reasons or maybe very similar reasons which is knowing how they're both feeling and what they're thinking when discovering new things about themselves which they don't quite understand or accept.
I highly recommend this book series to anyone enjoying the m/m BDSM genre.

I really struggled with what to write here but ultimately decided this just wasn't the series for me. I was ready to stop reading in book 1 but pushed through. Then I read a few reviews that mentioned book 2 was better because it switched and told the story from the Dr. (Dom) point of view. Nope ... not any better for me. There were so many issues that I just couldn't wrap my head around (how Chris kept going back for more even though he wasn't treated properly, the fact that BDSM protocols were not followed, how "unattached" they were outside of the den, and more). It just didn't really make sense to me. And the ending.... ugh - so up in the air. Even if there are more books continuing their story, I will pass. Moving onto something that is more my typical read.

Amazingly written, beautiful interesting characters

Already read this series and I must say the author did an incredible job in presenting great characters, Chris and Greg both grow in very different ways which makes for a very realistic vide to the whole book, the sexy scenes all add to the building of their relationship and overall one of my favorite book series. A MUST READ!!

DNF

Nope, not for me. And it's not the D/s relationship at all, it's the fact the Dom has atleast one other sub who didn't seem happy about his Dom having a new sub.
Give me throuples, poly, open relationships, you name it I am usually down. Unless there is cheating or one part of the relathionship doesn't consent with their Dom/partner having someone else weither that is another relationship or just playing.

Better than I thought

This book was a lot better than I imagined from the first encounter, it felt a bit ofd. However, it then became serious business with contracts, talking, safe words etc. It has a slightly different angle to a lot of D/s books because of Greg's character but it also helps explain a lot. I enjoyed it, it ends as an unfinished story which I presume leads on to book 2 for the story to continue.

I’m hooked!

Intriguing, sexy and so much going on. I’m hooked on this series and need to read the next one asap. Chris is so cute and starting to grow into himself but needs to accept what he likes. Greg has had so many changes that I’m not sure how he will handle it going forward. He needs order in his life and Chris has just turned his world upside down. Can’t write more, I need to start the next book.

I like the book but…

This book has the potential to be really good, but the ALL CAPS used to emphasize some words were unnecessary. It’s used throughout the whole book and threw off my reading and concentration. I tried ignoring them and the missed punctuations. This book too entirely too long to read. Not sure if I’ll continue the series. I’m gonna take a peak at the writing first.

Good series!

This was recommended to me and I am really enjoying it. This story is the doctor Dom and his sub Chris and how they navigate the relationship between play and daily life. The first book has a great twist near the end which changes the way the reader sees the characters. I'm hooked!

Big ew with the autism representation

“He’s autistic”

“No he’s not, I’ve met him”

“It’s Asburgers or something”

Kinky and hot as hell. This is such an interesting series. It has a completely different component to the BDSM that makes it fascinating. I’m rereading the entire series, and it’s just as hot the second time around.

This was a good kinky read and I was pleasantly surprised that there seems to be some plot to the story and it’s not just kink. Well written and the characters are complex and interesting plus cute and endearing.

This series was recommended to me. If you enjoy MM and BDSM then I recommend this. Was definitely smutty and I liked how they had both Chris and Greg’s POV.

Reread: As good as I remember

Updating as I reread the whole series.

Toys
Poly - in an ENM way
K!nk
Greg is 31 and Chris is younger.

Read these books years ago on Wattpad, maybe in 2018? This was one of the first MM books I ever read, I wanted to go back and see if it still held up to my memory. Volume 1 is books 1 (Chris POV) / 2 (Greg POV) and each volume follows that pattern. These books are a great example of how sites like AO3 and Wattpad can have some pretty spectacular content (as if loads of readers didn’t already know that…🙄)

This book is literally just relationship/character development and spice. The whole series just focuses on Chris and Greg’s relationship. Tbh I don’t hate it. It’s interesting having an idea of what’s coming down the pipe (there are loads of these books - 8 two part books) but not remembering it well enough not to enjoy the whole experience, I'm not usually a rereader so this is pretty fun for me. I really like that reading them this time around I get more out of what I'm reading.

At 76% of the first volume, more and more of this series is coming back to me. Because the plot is literally about Chris and Greg’s relationship, spice is woven in and even Greg having k!nky seggs with someone else furthers the story. The introduction of Alex to the story is okay, feels a little abrupt but I think that’s a Greg thing, not the mechanics of the book. That is one of the thing I've really liked about this series. Getting to see/experience Greg's side of the story is interesting for me as a person who is non-autistic.

There is some serious DubCon (doctor patient hanky panky) early in the series. There is also some miscommunication which in a BDSM relationship seems both tough and dangerous.

**While I hate cliffhangers I was left wanting more.
