A cautionary tale about a girl and her cat. The little girl is anxious the cat will jump into the dryer. She tells her kitty what she fears most will happen to it. The girl tries to convince the cat not to jump into the dryer, but will the kitty listen?

The illustrations are vibrant and vivid. The characters are expressive and personable. I loved the two different socks on the little girl. I also loved the sock monster. The text is large and easy to read. The rhythm of the story is good. I feel this book would interest kindergarten and up.

The author provided me with a free electronic copy of her book in exchange for an honest and unbias review.

Our family has two curious cats. When Gracie and Lola were kittens I had to keep a watchful eye on laundry day like the main kitten, they too raced to the stairs and jumped all around. I was quickly drawn into this relatable story. I wanted to see how the main character demonstrated responsibility and looked out for Kitten’s safety. The main character, in her mismatched socks, was mindful and shared small and big reasons to be careful and safe. Children will want to cozy together like kittens to read and discover if the clothes get washed and if Kitten stays safe. Readers will pounce at the opportunity to be a part of responsibility and gently presented safety lessons. “Whys” explain that good choices are the cat’s meow.

Judy Lea's writing and Anita Ho's illustrations are lovely—the book is a cute and cautionary story of an anxious little girl and her cat that is getting up to no good. Great for littles and grownups alike. I love the sock monster page!
