I recently felt led to start taking Communion daily and this is an easy read that gave a beautiful understanding to how much MORE Communion is. Beautiful testimonies but moreso wonderful scripture to help me see full picture of the power and blessing of Communion.

So much wisdom in here that I wanted to take it slow despite it being a pretty quick and easy read. Opened up my eyes to the depth and full truth and power of communion, and all that it means to us as believers. Lots of great testimony and practical ways to incorporate communion into your spiritual rhythm. Would recommend this book to anyone!

One of my favorite parts of this shelter-in-place/quarantine has been taking Communion with my family each Sunday with our online church. At this same time, I have had a few trusted friends say they take Communion every day.

I picked this book up hoping it would drill down more on the simple bread-and-cup tradition churches do each month. I'll be honest and say this book isn't the most well-written, there's a bit of "Christianese" even I wasn't sure of the definitions. And it doesn't have any of the history of the Passover meal--which is super interesting and adds such depth to Communion.

What this book does is put Communion in front of you as a tool, a weapon, and a proclamation of how great God is. It shows how the bread and wine are a memorial, an object lesson, and a further step in your Christian walk to recognize and align yourself to what Jesus did for us on the cross.

Over and over she talks about ALIGNING ourselves with Jesus through Communion. And it's a stark and solid word choice---holding the bread and cup in your hand does align your thoughts and emotions on the Truth of who Jesus is and what he did for us.

This quote may wrap it up better than I can:

"That we would need reminding of this greater reality comes as no surprise to the Lord. It's like He sat us all down at that table with the disciples in that upper room and said, 'Listen, I know. I know some days are going to be hard. I know there are going to be moments when it feels like the reality of Heaven is far away. Your child is sick or you lost your job or your best friend died or you did that thing you swore you would stop doing. I know. I'm leaving you something-My body and My blood-to remind you who you are and where your future home is. I'm leaving you this reminder of My salvation, My healing, the comfort of My presence, and my victorious return. Take it. Remember me. Be everything I created you to be so that My Kingdom can invade every single one of those situations, and the world can know a good, good Father.'"

Taking Communion is more than a reminder, the way we look thru old vacation photos--it's a loud, physical reminder of what and Who we believe in. I think this book is worth reading--and acting on.

This is one of the most powerful books I’ve read! Hands down! The principles and how Beni Johnson goes above and beyond to explain what Communion is and how it can be such a powerful tool in your everyday life is absolutely phenomenal! It’s a book I’ve already told multiple people to get and one I will re-read again soon!

9/10/23 Second read and I gained new things. Communion has become very spiritually significant again in the last few years. Beni does an excellent job of explaining why.

In many modern churches, communion has been shoved into the background with little visibility or emphasis in church services. Yes, it will be taken once a month but very quickly and not a lot of time spent on meditating on its power.

Beni Johnson's little book can change all that. She outlines the significance of communion, why it's an important church sacrament and shares insights in both her and others experiences when incorporating it as a regular discipline, both corporately and individually.

She shares the stories of miraculous healings, salvations and transformed people.

She and her husband Bill, share how they incorporate it as a daily practice and provide an epilogue with a suggested outline of holding one's own little service. I've also used this in a group situation and found it was very well received.

As a result of reading the book I've commenced my own daily practice which I'm finding is a great way for connecting with God, meditating on what Jesus has done for us and praying over my family and loved ones.

Highly recommended.

(note: been a while since I read this - From memory it was a good book but this is all I remember taking away from it)

I found this book powerful in the sense that often in many churches Communion seems to just be seen as an entirely symbolic thing and that's it. And they highlighted why it is much more than that. This book however went further though and talked of communion being used for spiritual/emotional healing (and, from memory, physical healing too) which, realistically the sceptic in my mind goes "yep, the placebo effect can do wonders".

Sure God can use the placebo effect however in my opinion I felt it went too far the other way. It converted communion from being nothing but grape juice (like why don't people still use wine?) and a wafer, to some miracle cure all. Almost has the vibe that if we aren't healed it's because we didn't have enough faith. This sort of ideology makes me very cautious.

Communion gave me a different perspective

It teaches me how powerful Communion really is, and it gives me a different perspective about how to use Communion for my entire family. It also helped me to understand that you couldn't take Communion anytime, not just monthly at church. I was going through a very trying time and thought like I couldn't even pray, and I was reading this book and started to take Communion twice and three times a day. God gave me that assurance that He is there with me. Before the meeting, the Holy Spirit speaks to me and says whatever decision makes for your job is where God wants you, and if He said He will provide for you, don't ever doubt it. Because God will provide the meeting turn out in my favour. Amen

This is a short, sweet, beautiful little book about perhaps the most deep, important topic of all time. The structure of the book feels a bit disjointed at times, but perhaps it's only because so many facets of the Crucifixion and Communion are covered here that each facet only has a small treatment. The testimonies are wonderful, and the theology is beautiful. I do love the charismatic focus on miracles and healing, since I feel like that dimension is neglected in other evangelical texts. Overall, this book was a joy to read, and most importantly, I came away from it craving deeper encounters with God.

Fantastic book!

I wondered how a book on communion could be 179 pages long. What on earth was there to talk so much about? The answer, apparently, is 'plenty!' This brought to light much more than I ever thought was relevant to taking communion. The stories and examples of the different situations and reasons for taking communion that are biblically appropriate was eye-opening. Thanks to the authors for bringing to light the importance and practicality of taking communion regularly as part of our day-to-day lives.

What a lovely book. Honestly, I’ve never done an in-depth study on communion and always saw it as something done in church with the corporate body.
I just loved how this book unravels the depth of meaning behind the action and urges the reader to not just grasp the power behind the symbolic actions but to meditate on it in their daily life.
Totally changed how I view communion in the best of ways.

Very Powerful Read!!!

It took me awhile to read this book. I read it at the beginning of Passover (2020) and just finished at the end of Pentecost. However, this book is life-changing , packed with the testament of Christ, and will definitely recommend this read for a deeper understanding of Communion and it's POWER. I will never look at communion the same !!! My heart has changed forever!

Enlightening

I really enjoyed this book. It has really helped me get a deeper understanding of the impact of communion on my life and the life of my family. The key to communion is identifying with Jesus and all he did for us on the cross. Doing so opens us up to the benefits of the New Covenant in Him. Great read!

Worth the time to read.....

I read this book as a way to broaden what I thought about communion and was not disappointed. Highly anecdotal, the stories are illustrations of the power of communion. Add this book to your library, but more than that, put into practice what it teaches.

Simple and to the point

I have read quite a few books on Communion. Some were quite detailed - which is not a problem. What I love about this book is the sheer simplicity. I can give this to my grandchildren to read and it would be easy for them to understand. It's an easy read. And using communion for intercession .... Awesome

Powerful Reminder

The power of communion is a powerful reminder of the precious work that Jesus Christ did for us on the cross and through his resurrection. Communion should be an integral part of our relationship with the Trinity and in intercession.

The call of Jesus is to take communion regularly, to believe in his body and blood was broken and shed for our transgressions of sin. Thank you to Beni Johnson and her husband Bill for opening fresh visions on this important practice.

Good book, illuminates the importance of the Holy Communion. Would have been better if it had spent more time discussing ways to improve people's personal experience rather than their own.
