Peter Thompson grew up on the east side of Chicago, in the shadow of the steel mills where the air was sooty and smelled of sulfur. His life wasn’t always so gritty, but the grit and realism finds its way into his thrillers. He has always loved stories of every kind, and one of his joys is finding a way to get inside character’s heads, seeing the world as they see it and feeling their triumphs, pain, and fear. He visualizes his characters when he writes, and they are larger than life in the big screen of his imagination.

Before pursuing his passion and becoming a full-time author, he tried his hand at everything from factory work, breaking cement in a construction crew, running his own pizza shop, and he was a well-regarded presence in the mortgage industry for nearly thirty years. When he isn’t writing, Peter loves, spicy food, live music, and exciting and thought-provoking books and movies. When An Arm of the Law Chooses It's Own Mission

What an entertaining story that all those with worries about our military and conspiracy theorists will love! A Colonel in the military is running a military institute where a toxin is being made and a vaccine established to decrease human population as needed! The characters are strong, a young woman who is a very good reporter ends up paired with a man 'executed' after being on death row.
An interesting tale showing happenings in a military institute less known by the public. Out in a very private area, where subjects needed for vaccine tests come from the poor, the homeless, and the 'dead'!?!
I thoroughly enjoyed my reading, my attention held throughout with the fast action and quick wit of the characters. Recommend to thriller lovers for something a little different.

If you are a fan of TV shows in the like “24” or if you are a person who enjoys suspense thrillers, I suggest you give “Living Proof” by Peter J. Thompson a listen. The book is energetic, well-paced, and fast-moving. It is what one might expect from a thriller story. The audiobook’s narration is performed by Gary Tiedemann; who I have enjoyed listening too through many other audiobooks over the years. His voice seems to fit whatever the book he is voicing like a glove. One of the things I enjoyed about this audiobook is that it is a stand-alone story, not a serial like many others available today. I am not saying that the book does not leaves a few open ends making way for a future sequel. What could go wrong when you have corrupted penal personal, clandestine military bases, covert experiments and conspiracies around every corner? This sums up what you will find in this book. The United States military begins an experiment with deadly viruses to control more than just an enemy. If this sounds like something that you would enjoy, I recommend you pick up the book and give it a listen. For the author’s premiere work, I think he accomplishes his task quite well. Are there a few bumps and bruises along the way? Yes, but many can be forgiven if you are looking for an enjoyable story.

As the book’s summary says, there is a secret government agency and a few rogue agents who are developing a custom virus that will infect and kill large numbers of people once they are infected. Not only a virus is required, but an antidote as well. This secret agency needs human subjects to perform their testing on, and where better than to get them from people on death row who are going to die anyways. To supplement their needs, they also take to the streets offering food and shelter to the homeless. Prisoners are brought nearly to death from the normal concoction of drugs during the process of terminating the life of a sentenced criminal. Once these people are pronounced dead by the prison doctor, who is in on the game, they are whisked away to this facility to be used as test subjects; or rabbits as some call them. Things begin to unravel when one of the test subjects escapes and the hunt to return him to the facility or kill him to keep their activity a secret begins. There are a few well-known stereotypes one finds in books of this genre such as the nosey reporter, hardline military, and scared scientists just doing their jobs. However, the book adds life, purpose, and direction to its characters making the story quite enjoyable overall.

The author weaves a believable tale that could be taking place right now without our knowledge. There are a few places where one needs to suspend belief, but much of the book felt like I was watching a TV show or movie. I can recall the process where someone breaks a strong government encryption cypher in a matter of hours where in reality it would have taken hundreds or thousands of years to truly accomplish the task. I understand this is a piece of fiction and like with TV and movies much of the slow boring stuff has to either be removed or sped up for the general population. For me, I would have liked to have had a bit more action and things being smashed during the story line than what the author included. But, as thriller are not my strongest genre, I can say there was a good amount of suspense and mystery keeping me engaged the whole way though. In some ways, the story felt more like Psycho where it was less about the action and visual stimulus as it was engaging one’s brain working out all the various elements as they come together.

The book’s narration by Mr. Tiedemann was what I have come to expect. It was professionally produced, had no audio artifacts (only a few compression noises during times of silence), and his ability to voice different characters was spot on. Volumes were consistent and I do not recall any other background noises such as page turns or swallows. The narrator did a good job of voicing both male and female characters along with giving them distinct personalities. With over one-hundred and twenty-five book already narrated by Mr. Tiedemann, this is one more that I can say was done with high standards.

For parents and younger readers, the book contains a fair amount of vulgar language, references to mature subject matter such as rape, sex, and other material I would think inappropriate for younger readers. The book also contains some quite graphic violence. There is one scene where two people engage in sexual activity which is quite descriptive. If you find this type of content offensive, I would recommend you find a different book to enjoy.

In summary, for the authors first work, I found it compelling and likable. The main characters felt real and that they each had a purpose. There was a fair amount of tension not only around the hunt but also if there would be some romantic attraction between two of the characters. The narration enhanced the story and was on par with other works by Mr. Tiedemann. If you enjoy mental thrillers where you are always trying to figure out how our main character is going to escape, I recommend you give “Living Proof” a listen.

When the government has assumed something is true—even if it is false—is there any way to escape it? There are ethical values that every person should have; however, what happens when the ones who you are supposed to trust, suddenly become the morally unethical? In a country ruled by laws that govern the morality of an individual, the laws have become skewed and one man finds himself on the run from forces that make crimes disappear. Thompson has an interesting conspiracy novel that twists and turns with every discovery, leaving the reader waiting for the next drop of the hat.

Ramon is an inmate who has been sentenced for execution; even though his pleas of innocence have gone ignored. As the drugs are administered, he thinks to himself—this is it for me. While everyone in the booth outside is watching his death, his eyes connect with Lena, a reporter for a local newspaper in Austin, before he unwillingly relinquishes the hold on his life. It comes as a shock to Ramon to find himself alive and strapped down to a table in a white room, being used for experimentations by what he assumes to be the government—all while everyone else in the world thinks he is a dead man. Ramon’s faith that he has been given a second chance is renewed when someone within the government’s operations team comes to his aid. Knowing that it may very well be a suicide mission, Ramon has no other option than to run for his life and hope that he can find someone to help before they can eliminate the threat for good.

Thompson has a superb story-line, filled with creativity, originality and intriguing characters. The pace is very quick, but easy to follow. There is action and mystery at every turn, mixed with true crime and conspiracy. Thompson creates a sense of panic that leads up to a very detrimental plot meant to scare the reader into believing that the government can be responsible for mass internal destruction. The story appears to be written fairly well. Since this review compliments the audiobook, Tiedemann provides wonderful voice relay for all of the characters within the story. His narration makes the novel even more enjoyable for the reader. If you are a reader of military thrillers, mystery and true crime, this may be perfect for you.

An audiobook was provided to Turning Another Page by Audiobookworm Promotions and in no way affects the honesty of this review. We provide a five-star rating to Living Proof by Peter J. Thompson.

I received this one for a tour to give my unbiased review.

It was pretty cool actually, the beginning was reasonable and well explained to set the motions for the next part of the plot that went on in a good progressive pace and picked up at the end.

The characters were interesting and have depth and were relatable in they own ways each one, I did felt bad for Ramon, he was wronged in so many ways but did find what he needed in the end and went on with his life.

What it was more appealing to me was the combination of political and conspiratorial thriller it was, it did have a little of various things that kept me going wondering where this all was going and the ending was pretty good actually it leaves you with something to think about of how the story will find a way to others.

A Possible Conspiracy in Today's World

Ramon was an innocent man sentenced to die. Lena was a reporter sent to report on his execution. Only Ramon didn't die. It just looked that way. Lena was greatly moved by what she had seen. Ramon was an unwilling part of an Army coverup to get test bodies for Biological Warfare. Only this time he lived. He broke out and began running for his life. He contacted Lena and told his story. The adventure begins. They both run for their lives trying to find someone who will listen and help. People who help die. The chase builds to a climatic end. Read to find the ending.

If you are into thrillers and conspiracy theories, this book is definitely for you. A man imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, soon to be executed. An ambitious reporter. A top-secret military base and a disillusioned officer. That is how the story starts. I could go on about what the story is about but that's what summaries are for.

I felt that this was a truly brilliant work of art when looked at closely, it kept me reading and wondering what would happen next. I liked the way that the author built up suspense and how he was able to make the world quite clear but I was a tad disappointed with the ending.

Thompson tells his narrative through various narrators and he does it quite well, which is not always the case.

After reading “Living Proof”, I’m already looking forward to Peter Thompson’s next book. In this excellent conspiracy/thriller novel, we meet our protagonist, Ramon, when he is on death row. But when he is pronounced dead, it’s not really true as he’s smuggled into a clandestine military facility for extensive testing. An escape from the lab leads to a a chase, alliances, murders, coverups, betrayals, captures, and more woven expertly together in a fast-paced thriller. I received an advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Ramon Willis should not be alive, but he carries a dangerous secret with global consequences as he tries to outmaneuver the sociopath Army officer on his tail. With the help of an up and coming reporter who watched his execution, Ramon has to fight for his life, and expose the dark secret that the Army is trying to suppress.

Living Proof is a fast paced book, and the story is exciting. It's definitely a page-turner, and a great read.

I won a kindle version of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

A briskly paced innocents-on-the-run thriller that would make Hitchcock proud. Ramon’s death penalty sentence is just the start of this turbulent adventure featuring Washington insiders, a clandestine military force, biological warfare, Bond-worthy villains, and a crazed hit man and more. Fans of the Dean Koontz Jane Hawk series will like this.

What I liked from the instant I started reading Living Proof by Peter J. Thompson was the fact that the main character was on death row for a crime he didn't commit. He is not a killer, but is put into a situation where he must now become one to survive. His stint in prison has changed him and made him able to make quick decisions that enable him to save his own life. He is not a Rambo-type character, but much more human and makes mistakes along the way. He does what he needs to survive, and nothing more.

Ramon is thrown into a situation he finds hard to believe. I liked this about the character. He had flaws and weaknesses that made him quite human. Peter J. Thompson does an excellent job in keeping the reader sitting on the edge of their seat wondering what is going to happen next. The books moves along at a good pace and I had a hard time putting the book down at night.

Living Proof is a smart thriller that will make you think about whether government conspiracies really exist. Could a virus ever be created that can wipe out mankind? Can is be spread easily and kill almost instantly? Would mankind ever be stupid enough to play with fire like that? I hope not, but I fear the answer to all of these question is, "Yes."

So, pick up Living Proof by Peter J. Thompson and see how one man and one woman grapple with these questions.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.

An unusual mix of a reporter, a man soon to be killed on Death Row and a secret army installation. Ramon Willis has spent years on Death Row for a murder he didn’t commit and which has reached its final conclusion and his execution is in less than a week. He gets interviewed by a young reporter, Lena Dryer, who is doing a piece about Death Row. She is there to witness his actual execution for her piece and can’t settle after this. She has covered many horrific incidents, but this one won’t leave her.

The execution is not the end for Ramon. There is a secret military complex, in an isolated area of land in Texas, who are taking homeless people, criminals even from death row, to use as lab rats for an engineered virus. The virus has an almost 100% death rate and they are working with these unwilling subjects to find a working vaccine. What the plans are for the virus are not clear to start, but some in power always have their own agendas.

Ramon is the only subject to have survived more than a couple of days after being given the vaccine and after two weeks, knows that his time may be up again and he has to do whatever he can to survive. He manages to escape, but the military forces that were holding him, have a lot of powerful contacts and shut down any avenue he can think of. They need to find him before he can tell anyone about what happened to him and also before he exposes the truth of what his own governments military are doing to its citizens.

The people that the main characters reach out to are put in the line of fire and leave the main characters, Ramon and Lena, to run for their lives and try more direct approaches to spread the information they have. If the information they have and their story is not told, many could die and it could ruin mankind’s existence dramatically. A well written book, that certainly comes up with an unusual twist in the storyline, right from the outset. You never knew which way Ramon or Lena would have to go in their pursuit of truth and freedom.

Biological weapons, government secrets and a secret military unit are all connected to some very powerful individuals. They have an agenda all of their own and are only a short time away from setting off their dreams. Only Ramon and Lena can stop them, but whether they will be able to get anyone to believe them, with all the fake news being issued about them, is not an easy option and could be extremely dangerous to their continued freedom and life expectancy. A fantastic read and I can’t wait to read some other books by this author. This book was my first by this author, which I received as an ARC copy from Hidden Gems. I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This was a really good suspense novel. It kept me entertained all day, as I didn’t put it down. 10+ hours of audiobook is usually a 2 day listen for me, but I enjoyed it all in one day as I needed to see how things turned out for Ramon. He’s an interesting character caught up in extraordinary circumstances.

He’s been on death row for several years in a Texas prison, falsely accused of a murder. His lawyer, Barry, has worked hard for him but the inevitable has finally come. Ramon has made his peace with it. But then he wakes up in what turns out to be a military installation. Bio warfare is at the heart of this thriller and Ramon becomes the living proof of this clandestine military operation.

Lena Dryer was also an interesting character. She’s a rising journalistic star, excited for her career and about to make one of the biggest changes in her life. She was one of a few witnesses to the execution of Ramon, and that fact is what yanks her back into Ramon’s life. Yet part of her is very excited by the big story that just landed in her lap. Now if she can just stay alive long enough to get it out there!

The one issue I have with this story is that there are so few female characters. There’s Lena…. and …. and…. hmm…. Well, Ramon has some vague dream of her mom singing. So, yeah, we need more ladies because that would more accurately reflect life in general.

The villains are well represented, as we have different flavors of villainy. Dr. Meeks seems to be in it for the science. Cane just likes a good hunt, and revels in causing others pain. Others get up on a moral high horse, claiming they are doing what’s best for humanity. Yet another has a change of heart once he learns what the evil master plan is. Is it a sin that I enjoyed the villains more than the heroes?

The pacing is perfect and I liked that the story was plausible, being something that could happen in today’s age. I love the desert southwest setting for the bulk of the tale. 4.5/5 stars

The Narration: Gary Tiedemann gave a really good performance. His light Spanish accent (as described in the book) for Ramon was spot on. His voice for Lena was feminine. All character voices were distinct. I loved his vicious voice for Cane (the dominant villain). His pacing was perfect and there were no technical issues with the recording. 5/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Peter Thompson. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Great New Author!

I was recently introduced to a new book, Hit Me, from a fairly new author, Peter Thompson. I was so impressed with this thriller I quickly looked for more books by him. Runaway happened to be in my book queue, but I found Living Proof and started reading right away.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect. After the first several chapters I was hooked. Peter Thompson really gets inside the mind of each character. You feel the desperation of Ramon during the last moments before he is going to be put to death for a crime he says he didn't commit. You feel Lena's internal struggle at watching a man die, his life extinguished, and he might have been innocent. The injustice watching a maniacal man with a god complex wielding his power like a sword.

The story unfolds with a lot of twists and turns. Every win for Ramon unravels as quickly as it starts. He has nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, and absolutely not one person he can trust.

This was an intriguing, thought-provoking thriller. I look forward to more books by Peter Thompson

From the moment I began reading this book, starting with the homeless man convinced there were aliens on his street, I knew I would be settling in for a great read. Thompson brought the scenes and the characters to life in this thoroughly engrossing thriller. The underlying plot of the book, that death row inmates are smuggled out of the execution chamber after being pronounced dead, captivated my imagination.

Ramon, falsely convicted of murder, sentenced to death, and executed, wakes up to find himself in an environment that is even more alien than prison. His escape from this human laboratory and desperate fight for survival as the perpetrators of the experiment seek to silence him is fraught with suspense.

I enjoyed the author's writing style, his attention to detail as he developed the plot, his ability to get inside the heads of both the heroes and the villains.

Military germ warfare used on homeless test subjects. Unfortunately Ramon a homeless person gets caught up in the system as he is accused of killing these victims that the government has managed to kidnap.

He is on the run as he befriends a reporter as he finds a way out. It is up to the both of them to find the truth before things get worse.

An intriguing read of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Great story concept and development of suspense! I like author Peter J. Thompson’s writing style.
Narrator Gary Tiedemann does a good job portraying the story. I laughed several times in this one. His narrative tone is very layed back–but ramps up the tension very suddenly at times. Great voice, characterization, and impact.
