Rate this book
Maid’s daughter Emily Whitby once found true love in the arms of her beloved Michael, the young Duke of Norfolk. But then his family packed him off to fight in the Boer War--and then had Emily declared insane and incarcerated behind Michael’s back.

Michael Hawkesbury, young Duke of Norfolk, met the love of his life when he was only ten years old. The daughter of a family servant, his darling Emily Whitby gradually grew from the from the childhood friend of his pigtail-pulling days to the beautiful young girl he would discover romance with.

At eighteen, a few months after consummating his relationship with Emily, Michael is brought before his father, who is fed up with his son's wild ways and intends to teach him discipline by way of a stint in the military.

With no relatives left, Emily found herself vulnerable to the scheming of Michael's mother...who promptly contrived to have her packed off to Bedlam Asylum on the pretense that she was mad.

Now Michael has returned, battle-tested and full of determination to reunite with his beloved. But Emily has disappeared; none of the servants know the secret behind her disappearance, and his now widowed mother isn't talking.

One day, Emily is roused from her despair by a chance look at a newspaper that has been brought into the asylum—a newspaper announcing that her darling Michael has returned, but is destined to marry another!

Saving his Forbidden Bride

Michael and Emily grew up together. He lived upstairs and she in the service rooms. He use to tease her and pull her hair. They fell in love with each other and when his parents found out he was sleeping with her they sent him to war and sent her to Bedlam which in a hospital for the criminally insane.

She is left to rot away and when he returned he doesn’t know where she has gone. She finds out he is to be wed in three months time and gets away. She finds him and they married.

It is a very short story.

Saving his Forbidden Bride

At first I almost didn't read this book. But I am glad I did. The e Emily was treated for loving Michael was unjust. Sadly things like that happen to often.
