Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled[a] among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.
When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Each of the four Gospel writers were inspired of the Holy Ghost [hence the Gospels are infallible, inerrant, inspired] with a different "theme." The theme of Luke presents Christ as the Son of Man [our Kinsman Redeemer, the Second Adam] and thus the genealogy is Mary's and goes all the way back to Adam. Mark presents Christ as the Servant of the Lord [a servant needs no pedigree so the Gospel starts at John's baptism], Matthew presents Christ as the King of the Jews, and John = the Deity of Christ i.e., the Son of God.
Like tells the story of Christ. It is the third book of the New Testament it traces Christ genealogy all the way back to Adam. A wonderful book. An excellent reads. The third Gospel.
