Home is where the heart is…

Holly doesn’t have time for a holiday this year. But when her job threatens to send her over the brink, her boss insists she take a sabbatical. So she packs her bags and escapes to her beloved grandmother Gigi’s house on Wishington Bay, which has sat empty since Gigi passed away.

But Holly’s dreams of a coastal escape take an unexpected turn. Holly didn’t expect to spend time with any man this summer – let alone an Aussie Adonis…but when she meets her next door neighbour Gabe and his little dog Bryan, it’s clear her quiet summer of strolling along the sand and wandering through the seaside village’s tiny streets on her own will come with a hefty dose of distraction.

With a summer to fill and Gigi’s wonderful and surprising house to sort through, Holly knew it would be a summer packed with old memories. She just didn’t expect to make so many new ones…

Maxine has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember and wrote her first (very short) book for school when she was ten. Coming in first, she won a handful of book tokens – perfect for a bookworm!

As years went by, she continued to write, but ‘normal’ work often got in the way. She has written articles on a variety of subjects, as well as a book on Brighton for a Local History publisher. However, novels are what she loves writing the most. After self publishing her first novel when a contract fell through, thanks to the recession, she continued to look for opportunities.

In August 2015, she won Harper Collins/Carina UK’s ‘Write Christmas’ competition with her romantic comedy, ‘Winter’s Fairytale’.

Maxine lives on the south coast of England, and when not wrangling with words loves to read sew and listen to podcasts. As she also likes cake she can also be found either walking or doing something vaguely physical at the gym.

Has this ever happened to you? you inherit a house from your grandmother in a lovely beachside village. When you go to check out the house there is a hot Australian living next-door. He happens to be a doctor and a super kind and down to earth guy, with an adorable dog??? No? Well me neither. Seriously not one of these things has ever happened to me? This is why we read so we can live vicariously through the characters in our books. And Holly experiences all of this and more.

Maxine Moorey has written another delightful romcom sure to make you smile and swoon. From the first page of this book you know where it is going, but it’s the getting there that is so much fun. Holly was a lovely character with a big heart and I really wanted her to find her HEA. Gabe was pretty darn scrumptious and his dog Bryan was simply delightful. I also really liked Holly‘s brother who had a tendency to put his foot in his mouth, he said some things that really made me laugh. Like most romances there were times in this book I was so frustrated with Holly and Gabe, I guess it’s always easier to see what’s going on as a silent observer.

Simply put this was a fun uplifting story packed with humor and heart!

Favorite Quotes:

Although, if I’m honest, ever since I found out that the man I’d been dating thought girlfriends qualified as a “two for the price of one” deal, batteries were something I tended to keep a stock of.

No, I promise this time, it’s most definitely not a set-up. I’m pretty sure you’re not his type anyway. His last girlfriend was an absolute stunner.’ My brother was, as always, the epitome of tact.

It was at least a week before I could even look at chocolate cake again but, as I wasn’t a quitter, I’d forced myself to beat that particular problem.

I was civil at work because I had to be, Paul! What I really wanted to do was grab your nuts and rip them out through your throat, but I was reliably informed that HR would most likely frown on something like that. More’s the pity.

Who cares if you can bounce a pound coin off her arse? … Mine would probably just eat it like a money box.

Some days are better than others. Some days I still want to kick him in the nuts so hard his grandchildren would be sopranos– but apart from that.

My Review:

This was a fun and amusing read with frequent spikes of wry wit and clever banter. I enjoyed the liberal levity, sassy teasing, and flippant quips that regularly marked the characters’ verbal exchanges and inner musings. Ms. Morrey’s application of humor alternated between feisty and mischievous to wry and ironic, and I reveled in it all and jonesed for even more.

Cool new additions to my Brit Word List include gobby - British slang for talking in a loud and offensive manner; snaffle – steal or nab; caught on the hop – being surprised or unprepared; boot sale – pop-up markets involving selling goods from the trunk of cars; and fizzog – face.

5☆ Another Gem, it's a Warm and Cosy Rom Com!

Coming Home To Wishington Bay is a warm and Cosy feel good read. The cover is so inviting it's no wonder Maxine whisked me off to the delightfully charming Wishington Bay!

It's really refreshing when you read that a manager notices their staff and if they are struggling. That's exactly what happened to Hollie, her manager noticed she hasn't been herself and is suffering from severe panic attacks, and encourages her to take a holiday for some rest, recuperation and healing.
I wish all bosses were so observant!
I can really relate to Hollie as i too suffer from anxiety and panic attacks.

So Hollie decides to head to Wishington Bay where she feels at home.
It's here Hollie has inherited her Grandmother's house, so what better place to come to heal and recuperate. Whilst making a decision as to whether or not to sell her Grandmother Gigi's quaint beach side home.

What makes it even better is her neighbour is the devilishly handsome Doctor Gabe and his adorable fur Baby Bryan. Everyone who knows me, knows I'm a sucker for a fur Baby in a book and Bryan is the perfect cheeky, loveable pup!

I loved they flirty banter between Hollie and Gabe, both been hurt before, both cautious but the attraction is wonderful to watch as it blooms.

Coming Home To Wishington Bay is a Warm and Cosy Rom Com that will leave you feeling all fuzzy inside.
The Characters are beautifully written, relatable and entertaining.
The plot deals with some serious subjects such as mental health and grief which makes the story and characters even more relatable and endearing.
The pace flows along perfectly and the romance swoons along with some cheeky banter and chemistry.

If you are looking for a Contemporary Romance with a good serving of wit, humour and flirty banter, a story of new beginnings, discoveries, a few juicy twists, drama, friendship, romance and, a Adorable fur Baby then you will simply adore Coming Home To Wishington Bay.

I love Maxine's books and once again she has written a gem of a book.
I only hope that there is more to come from Wishington Bay and it's loveable Community!

Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Holly, a Discretionary Fund Manager in London, spends too much time working and not enough time on herself. When she starts taking panic attacks, her boss orders her to take some time off to recuperate. Already reeling from a breakup with her two timing boyfriend, Holly decides to spend the summer in Wishington Bay, home of her late grandmother. The summer will be enough time to put her beloved grandmother's home by the sea up for sale while she works on her own mental health so she can get back to her life in London. Holly never counted on meeting her sexy next door neighbor, Gabe and his tiny dog Bryan.

This is the first book I have read by Maxine Morrey and I can certainly say it definitely will not be my last. Morrey’s style of writing easily draws you right in with her witty banter, sexy hero and gorgeous scenery that really makes the story come alive. I was glued to the pages right from the start. This is the kind of story that gives you all the feels and makes you feel warm and cozy inside. It is a feel good Rom Com filled with a lot of laughs and a lot of realness. It is quite a simple story, but so well crafted and beautifully told.

Holly and Gabe are such well written characters and I found myself growing really attached to both of them right away. Holly is sweet and down to earth, but life has gotten in the way and she is stuck in a rut constantly working and not taking care of herself the way she should be. This summer trip to Wishington Bay is exactly what she needs and things only start to get better once she meets the hunky neighbor Gabe. Oh boy, what can I say about Gabe? Can he be my next door neighbor! He is hot, has a sexy body, he is a doctor and loves animals. Be still my beating heart. He is MY perfect man! The banter between him and Holly is hysterical, but I really wish I could have knocked some sense into the both of them at times.

Coming Home to Wishington Bay is a charming and adorable Romcom that you will easily fall in love with. It is the perfect beach read where you can relax with a big smile on your face as you root for Holly and gabe to find their happily ever after. A definite five star read for me.

What a fantastic read this turned out to be - mind you, I shouldn't have been surprised. With Maxine Morrey as the author you can guarantee a great, engaging, feel-good story that is packed with laugh out loud humour and a fantastic romance - and this book certainly delivered all that.

Holly is a workaholic, so much so that she's stressing out and having severe panic attacks. This is spotted by her boss who orders she have an extended holiday to help herself heal. So Holly travels back to Wishington Bay and the home she's inherited from her Grandmother, Gigi. She is planning to clear out the house, do some work on it and sell it but when she meets Gabe, the doctor living next door, and his brilliant little dog Bryan maybe things won't go quite as she'd planned!

This is a delightful rom com that has great characters, plenty of twists and turns, some surprises and an engaging romance. I loved the community of Wishington Bay and really hope there will be future stories set in the location and including more of them. This is a story of re-evaluating your life, learning to slow down rather than rush headlong and having time to appreciate the people and places around you. It is a heartwarming story of finding new dreams, love and laughter with a few obstacles along the way! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and have no hesitation in highly recommending it and other books by this highly talented author!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

It feels like ages since I last read a Maxine Morrey rom-com, but falling into the pages of this book really did feel like coming home. There was just such a comforting, cosy feel to this story, and even when I wasn't reading, my heart was with Hollie in Wishington Bay.

I'll admit the basic concept is one that has been done before - girl inherits property from relation in different location to where she lives, and then has to decide what to do with it. However its all the other bits of the book that make it so special.

The handsome Australian doctor next door and his adorable sausage dog, Bryan who has an emotional back story of his own. There is Holly's brother and his pregnant wife, who are so excited for the baby, but also really concerned about Holly. And there is the Bay itself which is gorgeous sounding, and if its anything like the cover, probably stunning to live in too.

I just really enjoyed the writing in this story, the descriptions and dialogue. It doesn't have the largest amount of characters, but that just adds to its charm as the ones that are featured you get to know so much better. Although not alive Gigi was also a big presence in the book, and I really felt I got to know Hollie's grandmother quite well. It was obvious she had a great sense of humour.

As much as I was enjoying the book there were moments where I just wanted to lock Hollie and Gabe in a room together and not let them out until they had realised the obvious!

Coming Home to Wishington Bay is a truly lovely story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I really hope this isn't the last we see of this location or characters.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

A novel about nothing
I normally like romantic comedy, but there needs to be a story. This was very thin indeed. Holly inherits her aunt's cottage by the sea, she plans to sell it before going back to her bad and stressful job that's giving her anxiety attacks. She meets next door neighbour, a gorgeous Aussie doctor who surfs.

Everyone wants her to end up with gorgeous Aussie doctor who surfs including, his family, her family and even her dead aunt.
He's of course single because he has no time to date what with the doctoring and surfing and painting his neighbours house and buying her chocolates and flowers.
Problem: Holly apparently cant see that quitting her awful job that's giving her panic attacks in favour of staying in the seaside village she's always loved in the house she's always loved with gorgeous Aussie doctor who surfs and buys her chocolates and flowers might be the way to go.
You get the drift...
This could have been done in two chapters, but the author pads it out with pages and pages and pages of nothing.
Boring conversations about nothing that go nowhere.
It was hard work to stop my mind wandering, you could literally skip 4 chapters at a time and not miss anything.

Oh wow – I’m just putting this straight out there; this book is utterly divine! A pint sized, touching novel which couldn’t be any closer to perfection if it tried. Well, it would compete with Gabe, naturally, but I’m sure that would be allowed considering!!

Holly is a character who readers will see themselves in big time. She works a lot yet doesn’t take time out to look after her own needs, which unfortunately has set things in motion for her body to pretty much tell her to stop. Pronto. Poor Holly has lost her beloved Gigi, and now she has absolutely no idea where she fits in anymore. Thankfully, she has the whole summer to try and work that out.

As for Gabe, the character whose name has already appeared in this post, he is a dreamboat of the fictional variety. Unfortunately. I mean, if only the world contained men like him – I sure as hell wouldn’t be single if they did! He has his flaws, yet he has such a massive heart and the ability to make me laugh out loud. Don’t worry, I’m not writing his profile for Tinder!

‘Coming Home to Wishington Bay’ had me laughing my head off, literally hearing my heart break in two due to the raw and poignant emotion which made itself known every now and then, and made my heart soar due to the beauty of the storyline and everything it stood for. Gabe and Holly haven’t had it easy, but despite that, they’re willing to make their future one to be proud of, regardless of how many baby steps it takes to get there.

I would love to see more from the characters in Wishington Bay – Maxine Morrey has created something really special with this book, and I would love to be able to lose myself in the authors spellbinding storytelling and incredible creation that is, Wishington Bay.

A moving, humour filled novel which put a spring in my limp like never before. Such a stunning, perfect novel – it literally took my breath away.

This is one of those reads that like any good journey or even a roller coaster ride, you know where it will end, but it’s how you get there that counts. There is more to this than "just" a romcom. I loved this, it made me smile and feel glad to be able to enjoy the things around me after a busy working life. Holly is a workaholic. So much so that she has been suffering panic attacks almost to the point of blackout and has not acknowledged that she should do something about it. Her boss, after her sliding down his office wall in one of her attacks forces her to take the summer off before she burns out. Having recently been left her Grandmother Gigi’s house she takes the opportunity to go and sort it out before selling it. Gabe is her neighbour and they get off on the wrong foot immediately, Holly being of a suspicious nature when she sees someone up a ladder at her window. Her brother and his wife live close so at least she knows others nearby, but she can’t help but think that life is passing her by. Gigi was rather a character and wanted her to meet Gabe whom she thought would be perfect for her. After recently breaking up from a relationship that had badly let her down Holly really doesn't want a man in her life at the moment and just wants to get sorted and go. I liked Holly and got where she was coming from as I think many women will identify with her. I loved Gabe- who wouldn’t? A caring considerate man who is doing his best not to tread on any toes whilst sometimes digging the hole even deeper. A read that made me smile and think, reflecting on life. A wonderful pick-you- up read to enjoy anytime.

Coming Home To Wishington Bay by Maxine Morrey is the most delightful contemporary tale about love, loss and new beginnings.
Loss can hit hard. “I’d wanted her back so, so much.” The pain of loss radiates outwards. The deeper we love, the harder the loss. Guilt often runs hand in hand with loss. “Why hadn’t I come down here more?” Regrets and guilt need to be put aside in favour of warm memories.
Within the novel the house is not just a house but a home. “The walls… were infused with all the happy memories and laughter and love.” It is as though the house takes on the personality of its owner.
The freedom that is found in Wishington Bay contrasts with the stifling city of London. Wishington Bay is a place where hearts can heal and personality’s blossom. The small community welcomes strangers as friends. Lives can be restored. Furniture is upcycled and given a new lease of life. This can be seen as a motif for broken people being brought back to life.
There is a wonderful dachshund called Bryan. Pets really make a house into a home. They are also good de-stressors. The way people treat pets says a lot about the state of their hearts.
The novel is written in the first person. The reader becomes intimately acquainted with the main character. She is lovable and likable. Her interactions with the other characters are a delight to witness. The dialogue is amusing, fun and light hearted.
I adored Coming Home To Wishington Bay. It was a delightful warm read that wrapped itself around my heart. It was simply perfect.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Two workaholics find themselves sharing an isolated beach house and the love of an adorable dog.
We can see where this is going, right? But it is the journey there that is so delightful.

Holly has devoted her life to work and getting ahead professionally. She gave away her heart once, against her intuition, and it lead to disaster not only for her personally but also damaged her at work. She began to have panic attacks and was forced to take a break, at least the summer off.
Her aunt had died the previous year and this gave Holly the time to get the house she had inherited sorted for sale.

Although she knew a respectable doctor lived on one half of the beach house, neither was prepared for the impactful way they first met. Gabe looked more like a surfer dude than doctor, and was acting like neither that fateful morning. Happily he turns out to be a stand up guy (until tackled on the beach) and close friends with Holly's brother and pregnant sister-in-law.

Wishington Beach is a colorful and close community. I enjoyed the shops and the neighbors, but this is really a family-centric romantic tale. A clean read with some very humorous moments and a very sweet and endearing dog.

Holly's troubles are her addiction to work plus the panic attacks she struggles to control. Gabe is enjoying life, but when his parents surprise him with an extended visit, he has to act fast. He sort of told his parents he was in a long distance relationship with Holly, never imagining they would meet. This came as a last minute shock to Holly and her family as well.

The story of one interesting summer and two people finding what they need close to home.

Wishington Bay … This must be a village where wishes are granted and after finishing the book it felt indeed like a very happy place to be.

It’s clear that nobody’s life is a bed of roses, but when you find the right person or your dream has finally come true or you realize that working can also be a fun thing you are on the right path to happiness.

I loved the banter in the story and the funny bits made me smile a lot. The way the author describes everything made me feel like I could see it happening. It was more like watching a film than reading a book to me.

I, for one, would not mind living in this little seaside village. A pity it does not exist or I would already be busy checking out real estate agencies.

A lovely, funny romantic story that I enjoyed very much. 4 stars.

Thank you, Maxine Morrey and Rachel’s Random Resources.

From the first page, I felt like I belonged within the pages of this story. Holly is just the BEST kind of character. I adored her, I wanted to protect her and hug her and just love her. And Bryan (with a Y) was my favourite! He is the most adorable little sausage dog and reminded me of my Bella Boo (although she's a Pomeranian!). Obviously, Gabe the hot doctor made for easy reading too.

This little village with all the quirky residents, shops and treasure troves made me really want to live there. And don't get me started on the private bit of beach! That's heaven! I adored picturing Gigi and her house in my mind and could easily imagine spending long lazy afternoons on that porch!

Ahhh, this book really was just the perfect escape from a chaotic, messy brain! Thank you, Maxine, for making me feel so much better!

Funny, sweet and just all around a beautiful story!
Holly and Gabe are so sweet and really are trying to find their way.
This was an interesting mirror to the busy and super connected life we all lead now and the importance of resting and disconnecting.
I just want to drop everything, hop on a plane and visit a little English village, get a house on the beach and forget the world.

“His smile was soft, and his eyes did that sparkly thing and somewhere in the hard, protective shell I’d built around my heart, I felt a crack.”

Who is this young career woman with the well-protected heart? She is Holly, a focused financial management professional who has done well at her prestigious London job. She has the London flat and lifestyle to match. So, why is she coming “home” to Wishington Bay. Isn’t her home in London?

That’s what this “funny and uplifting holiday romcom” is all about. What happens when our goals and plans and love affairs get turned upside down? When we meet Holly, she has been betrayed by her lover and she has experienced a health scare- her panic attacks are increasing in frequency and duration. So, much so, that her boss orders her to take a sabbatical.

She reluctantly retreats to Wishington Bay for the summer, where she has inherited her Grandma Gigi’s beach-side house. She hasn’t been to the place since her grandmother passed, and things have changed. Specifically, an “Australian Adonis” now lives in the other side of the beach house.

Holly’s plan is to fix up her grandmother’s place and then sell it and resume her life in London. Readers will bond with Holly, as I did, as we see her change her view of “home”. Can Wishington Bay become home for Holly? And can she open her heart and home to love?

There are many well-developed and lovable characters in this book, including the doggie “Bryan”. (yes, he spells it with a “y”.) Many will be able to relate to Holly’s panic attacks and how she learns to handle them. Just a warning- they are clearly described, but in an objective manner- no undue drama, and Holly receives care and compassion from others. The love and romance sparkles like the sea and the beach setting and small village proved a tranquil respite we all need. My only quibble is that twice in the book, Holly uses language I “try” not to use- language that seemed out of character.

I recommend this charming book and I thank HQ Digital, NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for a review copy. This is my honest review.

My first book by this author and, this is our little secret but I’ve never heard of this author before either! I have no idea how she has managed to go under my chick-lit radar, but I’ve spotted her now and she certainly won’t be getting away again! This book was absolutely wonderful!! I have spent the last couple of days completely transfixed with this story and have loved every single second of it!

Holly is basically on the verge of a nervous breakdown. With a high powered, stressful job working in the City in stock and shares, she’s finding it hard to cope. Her boss has insisted she takes a sabbatical, so she makes her way back to her childhood home, her late grandmother’s house, in Wishington Bay, which has stood empty since her grandmother passed away the year before. Plans to sort out the house, sell it and return to her job may be put on hold when she finds she is quite enjoying living back in the Bay. Having Gabe, an Aussie Paediatrician living next door is an obvious bonus! Will Holly sell up and move back to her old life, or will she be staying in Wishington Bay?

I really loved this book!! The story was perfect and it had me hooked from the very first page. I loved Holly, although first impressions were of an uncaring, highly stressed workaholic, but as the story moved on, Holly became much more likeable and only a couple of chapters in we were beginning to see the real person!! Her relationship with her brother and his pregnant wife was heart-warming and the brotherly-sisterly love between them was obvious! Gabe the ‘hot doctor’ next door was a very welcome distraction in the book and whilst Holly accused Gabe of breaking in and Gabe saw Holly in her very expensive underwear, their relationship just got better and better as you got further into the story!

It was kind of obvious how the book was going to end, but the course of true love never runs smoothly and this was certainly the case in this story! The writing was fabulous and it had me ‘oohing and aaring’ in so many places and insanely jealous of Holly and Gabe in so many others! The location was perfect and I imagined myself walking through the village, browsing the little shops and running down the beach with my surfboard tucked under my arm!! (Well, okay that might be going too far, but I could definitely feel the sand between my toes!) I could also feel the sun beating down on me and it has certainly cheered up the last two rainy days!

It was such a fabulous read though!! Not only did it put a smile on my face and love in my heart, but it also had me laughing out loud throughout the book. It did, as well, have a serious undertone running through it concerning panic attacks and anxiety, which Holly was suffering from, and it was wonderful to see this in a book to ward off the stigma of mental health problems! There was just the right amount of characters (too many and it gets complicated, too few and I lose interest!) and of course, this review wouldn’t be right without mentioning Bryan the Dog, who had to be the star of the show!!

My first by this author, most definitely not my last. Highly, highly recommended!!

This is only the second book I've read by this author and Maxine Morrey is becoming one of my favourite writers.
Coming Home to Wishington Bay is a wonderful story of new beginnings and taking stock of your life and finding your happy place. It's also a story of coping with the emotions that grief brings you and of struggling with health concerns.
Holly has been living and working in London for a good while and she's been forced to take a sabbatical due to increasing worries regarding her mental health. Holly has committed herself to her career and didn't think nothing of working regular 12 hour plus days. She's also recently broken up from a relationship that has brought mixed emotions of anger, trust and humiliation. Returning to Wishington Bay on the south-coast to her late Grandmother Gigi's home Holly hopes that this time away from her London life is enough to get her back on track and to also appease her boss.
Holly didn't expect her 'r n r' to include bumping into her new neighbour, hot doctor Gabe with his rescued 'hot dog' Bryan. After initial confused introductions a friendship soon ensues between Holly and Gabe. However, Gabe forgot to mention a little 'white lie' he told his parents and their friendship soon becomes a little more confused.
I loved the sound of Gigi's home it sounded so idyllic being on the beachfront and with a small close-knit community of independent businesses in the village. The blooming relationship between Holly and Gabe was good fun with lots of banter flying between them but you could sense a chemistry behind the cheeky chat. I loved the interaction between Bryan, the adorable rescued pup, and all the characters it was very endearing and I always think animals bring a softness to characters in a story.
This is a beautiful, romantic story but touches on the subject of serious issues regarding mental health which made the storyline even more relatable. Coming Home to Wishington Bay is a gorgeous feel-good story that will uplift and charm you.

I really loved this book, but after reading #NoFilter I don't think it 100% got the love it deserved. I genuinely think had i have not read a 5* before this it would have been a 5* itself, but there was something that just didn't quite live up to what #NoFilter was for me.

Coming Home to Wishington Bay is focused on Holly. A workaholic who has rarely left the city or stopped working for five minutes takes a sabbatical to go down to her Late Grandma's house that she left to her in her will, in Wishington Bay. Holly spent a lot of her childhood with her Grandma Gigi at her seaside home so those homely, loving vibes really resonate with me when I was reading this book. There's nothing better than book that takes you back to that feeling of being so innocently naive of the world, carefree.

When Holly unexpectedly meets her neighbour Gabe, who is a tenant in her small extra property her Grandma owned she instantly takes a u-turn in her feelings towards being in Wishington Bay. But who doesn't love a hunk with a dog?! Duh.

I loved Holly. She was so realistic in a way that she wasn't perfect. Things went wrong that didn't magically just fix themselves. She worked on her imperfections or learned to own the way she was. I really liked that she suffered with Anxiety (liked seems the wrong word?!), but it gave her an element of depth and realism which is something you don't often find done in such a way.

I think the one think that stopped this novel being a 5* for me was that Gabe was an exceptional character. The character building with him was great but his 'attractive' qualities were more about his looks than his personality. Given it was more 60/40 but I'd rather it be 60/40 the other way. but that's just me, it was nothing against the novel or storyline itself. It didn't give or take anything away for me it would have just been nice if there was a little less emphasis on his dashing good looks.

FYI Wishington Bay is stunningly described. It sounds picture perfect. Maxine Morrey has such a colourful imagination she brings to life even fictional towns and places to make you believe they're real. Whilst keeping in mind the very British Seaside vibes.

What I loved the most about Coming Home to Wishington Bay was that, yes it is a romance based novel, which is great. But it was so much more than that. It was about the modern day independent women and personal growth. It's about doing what makes you happy.

When I lost my Nan in December it was really difficult to deal with and hit me harder than I ever expected it to be. So this book was very close for me especially when it still feels quite soon. It gave me a feeling of somewhat closure that I didn't know I needed. This book will stay somewhat, different, for me.

As I am sure you are well aware, I am a big fan of Maxine Morrey's. She has recently released some grittier novels, but with Coming Home to Wishington Bay she returns to her writing roots with this fab rom-com!
Holly is a workaholic, with little time for anything other than the office. When her panic attacks finally get the better of her, her boss forces her to take a sabbatical and so she finds herself returning to Wishington Bay and her beloved Grandmother Gigi's old house. Holly throws herself into her new project; a summer getting her inherited house ready for sale.
Gabe is Holly's new neighbour; the Australian hunk of a man who had moved into the cottage next door whilst Gigi was still alive. Whilst their first meeting was less than ideal, Holly and Gabe find themselves spending time together as they bond over both Gigi and Gabe's pet dog, Bryan.
This is a story about two people who are pushed together, and are ultimately forced to consider what they really want from life. Two workaholics who find themselves re-evaluating their lives, looking for something simpler that makes them happy. This is a story about soul-searching, regret, love and happiness - it's about going back to your roots to work out exactly what you want from life to make you happy.
I am more than happy to recommend this novel - Maxine Morrey has yet again succeeded in creating a fabulous story that reels you in, with characters that are both loveable and relateable. I'm already looking forward to reading her next novel!

Thank you to Maxine Morrey and Rachel at Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to be a part of this blog tour, and for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

What a gorgeous story this is! I devoured this in less than a week and considering how much time I have to spend reading that’s very quick. I’m going to be honest as this is my first read by Maxine and I wish I had of discovered her writing sooner!

We meet Holly who travels back to Wishington Bay from her high powered stressful career in London. She is ordered to take a sabbatical or get fired from her job, she goes back to her grandmother Gigi’s house on the edge of the beach and plans to sort out the house and sell it to go back to London - but does she follow through with her original plans? She certainly has to deal with bumps in the road along the way!

Maxine also brings to light the issue of anxiety and panic attacks and I think this is written realistically and at the same time sensitively. I think a lot of people will relate to Holly’s health problems but as you read this story you will see how she deals with these issues and who helps her to get through it. We also meet the delectable Gabe, who also knew Gigi as a dear friend and neighbour. What sort of relationship will Holly and Gabe develop? Well they certainly come face to face with some challenges along the way. I love Bryan the dog and wish I had a dog just like him!

‘Coming Home to Wishington Bay’ is a beautifully, heartfelt story about grief, love, friendship and finding ways to deal with daily life that in the end you realise everything will be ok no matter what happens. I found Maxine’s writing full of humour, warmth and sensitivity. I give ‘Coming Home to Wishington Bay’ 4*/5* 😊

Thank you to HQ Digital UK and Maxine Morrey for an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley.

Okay, I said it before and I'll say it again, I really liked this book! The characters were memorable, the story layered just so, the romance there but not overpowering, the dialogue witty but clean...I mean, it was enough to make ME want to go to Wishington Bay because honestly it sounds like THE place to be! Oh and yeah, I'd be TOTALLY COOL having a pretend boyfriend like our resident Aussie. I mean, handsome, "healthy", and a gentleman to boot, but still a whole lot of fun. I can't blame Holly for her slip of the tongue, nor her unbidden desire for it to be something more. There is one character that was awesomely good at stealing the show, and that would be Bryan. What can I say? He gave Gabe and Paul (the ex, nuff said) a run for their money! I mean he's ADORABLE, FUNNY, easy to please, and always down for a snuggle. Okay, so he's a dog most the time...well, ALL of the time seeing as he IS actually a dog, but what a dog he is! Really, it was enough of a reason to make friends with the doc in the first place.

All in all, I wholeheartedly agree with the statement of it being perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan...because honestly, I AM one of those fans, and I LOVED THIS BOOK! From cover to virtual cover, it combined the best elements of Women's Fiction, and Contemporary Romance with a dash of humor to spare, making this a wonderful addition to your summer reading list, or a perfect staycation option.

As the cover says, Coming Home to Wishington Bay is “an uplifting rom-com,” and it’s a great one at that...a perfect read for the beginning of summer!!!!

Holly is ALWAYS busy, working herself to the bone, and especially after a bad breakup with her ex. Her boss insists that she take some time off to re-group. She knows the perfect place, the place she always felt safe, happy, and loved...her grandmother’s home. It has been empty since her grandmother’s death. She is looking forward to some rest and relaxation. All that is turned on its head when she finds a strange man outside her window on a ladder. Turns out, he is her neighbor, the one her grandmother, Gigi, was always talking about. What turns out to be a rough introduction soon turns into something magical, something Holly definitely wasn’t expecting!

Holly and Gabe are PERFECT for one another. Both are independent and both can be sassy, especially with each other. However, they really come to like and respect one another. Their road to a real romance is a bumpy one, but it’s one I’m so glad I got to take with them. There are some funny, sweet, and romantic moments. Those three are my favorite ingredients for a good rom-com!

On top of a great storyline and a great cast of characters, the setting was just gorgeous. The writer did a great job of describing everything. I felt as I was there and a part of the story!

I highly recommend reading if you are a fan of rom-coms!!!!

Whether you’re looking for a novel to read on a sunny day in the garden or a story to brighten the dreariest of days, Coming Home to Wishington Bay is a must read for romance lovers.

Through Holly, we are transported from a workaholic lifestyle in London to a peaceful, picturesque coastal town and we get to stay in a beautiful seaside cottage, with a hunky Australian neighbour – what more could any of us ask for?

Wishington Bay is a beautiful setting for this novel and you can almost smell the sea air, feel the warm sun on your face and hear the gentle waves crashing on the shore. Ms Morrey has created such a comforting place that makes you want to climb into the pages of the book and never leave.

No matter how beautiful a setting is, it cannot be brought to life without the right characters and it’s our friends in Wishington Bay are just the most wonderful people. As someone who had a close relationship with my grandparents, I found the memories and fond thoughts of Gigi so poignantly written and the character of Holly is so reminiscent of many women – she’s such an intelligent, strong yet vulnerable woman trying to prove herself in male dominated industry. Add the hunky Gabe and supporting cast of quirky characters and it’s impossible not to fall in love.

You just cannot help but be uplifted by this heartwarming book. Go on…..treat yourself!

Thank you to the Author and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Now this was exactly the book I needed while coming in to Winter! I love me a good rom-com and this book definitely delivered!

We start of by meeting Holly who ends up returning to her dearly departed grandmothers house Gigi in Wishington Bay. It’s there she meets Gabe and that’s when the fun begins. I have to say I adored all the characters in the book and just had a real blast getting to know them! I think this is one of the few books that actually had me smiling throughout while trying to race through the book to find out what happens. Now this is a book you do pretty much know how it’s going to end but this didn’t really matter as the journey to get there was so entertaining. The writing made it so Wishington Bay is somewhere I really wanted to visit as well. This is my first book I have read from Maxine Morrey and she definitely has a new fan now!

What a lovely read! As we head towards summer, this will definitely put you in the mood for a visit to the seaside.

Holly works far too hard; her job in the city of London is beginning to affect her health and she is forced into taking a break. Heading back to Wishington Bay and her cottage on the coast, she tries her best to break the cycle and try to relax - even if that word isn't really in her vocabulary. Finding her neighbour is a hot Australian doctor provides a little distraction, but doesn't really lower her heart rate! It's going to be a long summer ...

Oh, I so enjoyed this one! The setting is beautifully described; I could just imagine renting a cottage and settling in for the summer months. The characters are well-rounded and entirely believable. The story flows smoothly, with a few twists along the way and overall this is a wonderful read - the type which leaves you with a bit of a happy glow! A wonderful summer read, and one I absolutely loved. Author Maxine Morrey always delivers, and this is no exception. Highly recommended 5* read!

Described as a romcom, this is nevertheless, a story with some darker overtones. It soon becomes obvious that Holly has some mental health issues around anxiety and panic attacks. However, these issues do not detract from the summer ambience of the tale as she settles back into life in Wishington Bay and starts to reappraise how she has been living her life.

This is a story with a fairly restricted number of characters but you do feel that they are well drawn and stand out as characters in their own right. Gigi, Holly's grandmother whose death has brought her back to her childhood home, is an ever-present force, that you feel you have met her. It is fairly obvious where the storyline is headed, but I enjoy it for all that and can thoroughly recommend it to those looking for a holiday read with bags of character and more than a little romance.

In short: Starting over gets to seem like fun!
Thanks to the author for a copy of the book.

Holly has been living and breathing her work life for so long. However, the combination of finding out her boyfriend of two years was engaged to another woman and her beloved grandmother Gigi passing away had led her to throw herself deeper into work. But panic attacks have forced her to take the summer off and head to Wishington Bay to the house Gigi left her.

Meeting the Australian doctor who rents the house next door didn't quite go to plan. Both making a bad impression on the other. However, with the help of Gabe's dog Bryan they form a friendship. Gabe helping her with her panic attacks, encouraging her new hobby and enjoying her home cooked meals.

But when Gabe's parents arrive for a holiday he is forced to admit that they think that she is his girlfriend. Something he cooked up with Gigi, leaving his parents thinking that they have been dating for 18 months. Can Holly and Gabe showcase a fake relationship? Because it is just fake, right?

Encouraged by her sympathetic boss, Holly takes a break from work and heads home to the stunning Wishington Bay, to the house she’d inherited from her late grandmother. It’s here she meets her handsome next-door-neighbour, Gabe, in a hilarious first encounter. Gabe is an Australian doctor, and sure to win the hearts of readers with his emotional depth and wonderful sense of humour. The banter between the two main characters is fun to read and there’s real chemistry between them. I loved all the secondary characters too, including the adorable ‘Cumberland’ sausage dog, Bryan. The location was perfect and there was the right balance of warmth, humour and poignancy too. I think Wishington Bay is the perfect setting for future books.
I’m a huge fan of Maxine Morrey’s writing and this book didn’t disappoint.
