I DEVOURED THIS IN ONE SITTING. I didn’t even want to come up for food, water, air. NOTHING!

My brain can’t handle all this insanity. Wow. I’m shook.

This was so fucking good. Help.

I went in blind and had the BEST experience. I usually get the gist of plot twists but the author would throw these nasty curveballs and I’m like???!!! What in the fuck is happening?!

Moving on, I cannot get over how fucking deranged Alex and Blakely are. They’re so similar to each other and I’m here for it. 𝗢𝗺𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗲’𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗢𝗕𝗦𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 *𝗠𝗪𝗔𝗛* 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨.

This is one of those books where I'm sitting here struggling to put into words what in damnation did I just read?!?

Just when I thought the book was going one way, a curve ball came at me out of nowhere leaving me flabbergasted in its wake. This authors mind is so sharp, I can't even comprehend the research she would've undergone to develop this story, her plots are intricate, her characters are always a little bit flawed and unhinged. She pulls you in so effortlessly time and time again. That one question popping up numerous times, could the real psychopath please stand up?

She became his obsession, his lab rat, a killer.

Blakely was born a psychopath, unfeeling, uncaring, and along comes Dr. Alex Chambers a biomedical scientist who thinks he can cure her sickness.

A truly unique captivating story which will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.

I've seen and learned a lot over the past year and the one thing that I can say when it comes to reading a story, is that you can always count on it to provide you with a brief escapism. The characters will lure you in whether you love or hate them, the setting will make you want to be there in that moment and if everything comes together? You will see the beauty in the words that are spoken. Now with that being said, I truly feel like I got seriously mindfucked with no warning or foreplay for that matter! What just happened???!

"Trying to resist her snare was vain, and ineffective. Do not touch. Oh, I touched. I put my hand right into her flame. Then I begged her to burn me again".

Alex and Blakely made this story their very own. At first glance you would try to figure out how these two characters would even have an ounce of chemistry but you do not need to see it. It is felt and it consumes you within the first few chapters and just when you’re feeling that giddiness and excitement over the prospect of something new and beautiful, this author gives you a reality check that will literally have your head spinning.

fcrzy

Trisha Wolfe delved into the mind of a cunning psychopath and you were left wondering what kind of depravity you were going to encounter next. Who's telling the truth? What twisted game will I be entangled in and will I make it out unscathed? I had all of these things flying through my mind at warped speed and do you know the realization that I came to? I'm going to have to see someone in a professional setting because this book right here??

200-1

Trust me when I tell you that you have to go into this story blind. The twists and turns that you’re hit with has to be felt like a gut punch. It’s raw, passionate, depraved, cunning and sexy. Even after reading those last words, you will be craving more and Malady cannot come fast enough!! If you’re a fan of twisted psychological thriller reads, then this book is for you.

I was soo excited to read this book but it turned out to be so heartbreakingly disappointing, because I loved Born, Darkly, and I thought I’d love this too because the premise looked really enticing, but I just couldn’t connect with the characters. Sigh.

The writing in this book was immaculate, as always, but I found the characters bland and...lacking? They both had interesting backgrounds and their own toxic traits; one is a psychopath, the other is a biomedical scientist. The plot was well executed but I found myself skimming most of the chapters because the characters had no chemistry and too much of the psychological talk started to hurt my brain, not to mention the fact that there was no romance until after 60% mark. Romance usually takes a backseat to the psychological aspect in her books, and it doesn’t usually bother me, but by the time Alex and Blakely decided to give in to their temptation, I’d already lost interest (and a few brain cells) Anyway, I’m upgrading my rating to three stars simply because it’s Trisha Wolfe and because the plot got mildly interesting toward the end and I’m kind of excited for Malady *goes and hides in a corner*

Ok, Ok, Ok, breath taken...I hadn't read Trisha Wolfe before. Somehow I received her newsletter in my email and it had the first chapter of Cruel (A Necrosis of the Mind Duet #1) in it. I was hooked and needed to read this asap. I made the placeholder below, sent it to the author, and literally begged to read this book. She took pity on me and sent me the arc.

O.M.F.G. This book so lived up to the blurb, the first chapter, and everything you could think about by the snippets given.
I was taken on a journey with paths I thought I knew and those that hit me smack in the face. I am not a reader that is passive and never figures sh!t out. Usually, I am 2 to 3 steps ahead and it was how well the plotting was, that carried the day for my interest.

With this book, somewhere my antenna decided to think it knew what was happening and just took the ride all the way through to the end...and only at the end and starting this review did I look at the title to confirm a second book is due.

This was really satisfying for me and I hope it will be for you too. I am so looking for more, Ms. Wolfe.

First half of a psychological romantic thriller. Two killers coming together. One just starting out, and one who thinks it's righteous and has been doing it for awhile.

In typical Wolfe fashion... there is a lot going on here and none of it is easy.

It was fast moving and Dark. But I'm hoping book 2 helps me connect with the characters more and also that is ups the steam factor. I don't generally enjoy stories this twisted with out the steam to temper it.

3.5/5 stars
1.5 on the spice scale.

It was ok, the writing is good in terms of fluency and prose but it just didn't hold my interest. I wasn't drawn in by either character and I could step away from the book far too easily. I was reading on KU so didn't feel compelled to finish it.

I´m sad. Sad because I didn´t love this book as much as I hoped. Trisha Wolfe wrote some of my favorite dark novels (Cellar Door, Born, Darkly, Lotus Effect) so I had HIGH expectations for this. But the problem is, the book is too short, only 215 pages! What´s up with that? Not nearly enough time to develop the plot, for us readers to get connected with the characters. I felt like Blakely in the book - I felt nothing.

4.5 stars!

Alex and Blakely are both psychopaths and yet Dr Alex begins his study as a biomedical scientist on Blakely believing he can cure the sickness she has that makes her a true psychopath.

I honestly didn’t see nor expect where this story was going to go but it was so good, I’m excited for the second instalment for that reason. The contrast between Alex and Blakely makes the dynamic much more better and I’m excited to see how Trisha Wolfe explores the remainder of the plot.

I know when I'm in need of a good mindf**k, to look no further than a Trisha Wolfe book. And with Cruel, I was not disappointed. I'm blown away once more at her ability to truly get inside one's brains and somehow take all the crazy and deviance and make it palatable!

I'm still reeling from what one Dr. Alex Chambers has set forth in a journey of revenge and retribution. Turning the tables, if you will, on Blakely Vaughn and leaving me with the undecided notion of who the true villain is as part I of this riveting tale comes to an end. Wolfe leads us to a path early on that I was fully engaged in, as Blakely shows us what her motivations are wrt Ericson Daverns and the lifestyle and profession she has created that only gets more honed with every new client. The unconventional pairing of these seemingly unfeeling souls brings out emotions that are foreign and yet touch a nerve deep within that changes everything they thought they knew. And it is brilliant to watch albeit a bit unnerving.

Cruel is a book, like most others in Trisha Wolfe's library, that you must go into blind. You need to embrace all that is happening slowly, letting your mind absorb all the moving parts and allowing your jaw to drop more than once as events unfold. You honestly cannot skip even one word since each one is meticulously placed in order to be able to properly relish this wild ride.

I liken Wolfe's stories to a different kind of palate cleanser, where you'll completely forget your last read not necessarily because you want to, but because your psyche is now wiped clean and you can't help but be fully engaged reading every page of this well-written book.

Now I will wait ever so (im)patiently for the conclusion and in the meantime will happily give Cruel, an incredible necrosis of the mind a disturbingly good 5 stars!

These two were insane, but especially Alex 😦 omg he was MENTAL, like seriously crazy and very obsessed with the heroine (Blakely).
Although they were both psychopaths, Alex clearly had some serious problems (I'm not even exaggerating).

"𝐈 𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧. 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐧...𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬."

I really liked the writing style, it's the first time I've read a book by Trisha Wolfe and I know it won't be the last. She has a way of describing things and letting the reader feel involved in the story that I can't even explain. I already know why she writes about dark romance, psychopaths and serial killers.

Although the story had potential to be better, it was a solid 4 stars at first, but after a few things, it went downhill for me. I don't know how the second installment will develop, but I think for now I'm going to take a break from the story and continue later.

Oh how I've missed these words! I want to wrap them around me like a blanket and let their beauty envelope me. *sigh*

No one sucks me into a story faster, harder, or with more impact, than Trisha Wolfe. From the prologue to the epilogue, and every page turn in between, I was mesmerized, enchanted, and wholly consumed by the beauty, the madness, and the perfection contained within.

As always, Trisha Wolfe delivers an intelligent, twisted, and darkly captivating story that I just can't get enough of.

"Beauty is deceptive. Like all things in nature, one cannot trust their eyes. The brightest flower, the intricate butterfly wing, all designed to capture attention and warn:
Do not touch.
The primitive predator heeds this threat. Thousands of years of evolution and the laws of nature remain unchanged.
It is a perfect design.
But the human male is more complicated, or rather—truthfully—he’s more simple. He takes the warning as a dare, a challenge. His ego demands that he override evolution and conquer that which threatens to make him weak.
And what could render a man more helpless than a woman??"

"She is more consuming than any madness"

No, Alex era in quel club per uno scopo preciso, trovare soggetti come Blakely.

Wow! Where do you even begin writing a review for this phenomenal book.
A freaking masterpiece, seriously where does this author go in order to produce these dark and twisted tales, it’s beyond my apprehension and I guess that’s why it makes the story so unique.
I love reading a novel where you have no idea where or how the story will end and this book gave me that in tenfold.
Alex and Blakely the main characters in this book are compelling and thought provoking each with their own agendas which made it impossible at times to side with one over the other. They have an undeniable attraction to each other, both in body and mind which they try desperately hard to resist.
This book took me on a truly dark, twisted and intense journey. It challenged me in all the ways possible and I absolutely loved it!
I love that there’s a link in this book to Born Darkly/Madly, and how the repercussions of Grayson Sullivan’s actions cause a catastrophe in the making.
A brilliant read that consumed me until the very end and them some!
I was lucky enough to snag an arc of this book in return for an honest review. Do yourself a favour an put this author Trisha Wolfe on your TBR list. You will not be disappointed!

The f*uck !!!😳😳

Honestly, I am a tad bit scared of Trisha Wolfe. Her skills regarding twisting mind and thoughts literally frightens me. This isn't the first time, I questioned myself after I finished reading one of her novels. Authors like her are a menace to the society and should and must be protected and respected at every turn.

I loved Blakey and honestly I felt sorry for the woman. She is one tough cookie but the sudden sensory overload and confusion could either make or break any person. Blakey being the badass strong bitch she is , continued to thrive and reform herself.

I had a love -hate relation with Alex. His insanity appealed me and repulsed me in equal respect. However the captor and the captive, or the scientist and the lab rat(more like a lab wolf since I can't never see Blakey as a meek rat, she is a cunning fearless wolf through and through🐺🐺) was phenomenal, I am waiting eagerly for these two highly reactive personas to collide again and light the World on fire💥💥.

Ooooh Grayson one of top favourite psycho mc was also mentioned and I can't wait for him to play a nice chunky part in the story line.

Without a doubt, Trisha Wolfe did it again by gifting us with yet another masterpiece.

❤️❤️🤯🤯❤️❤️

Phenomenal read!

It's Wolfe's prose, her way with words. Her simple yet elegant way of drawing you into her written world. I feel she is one of the most untapped greats of the writing world. I truly do. God, what I wouldn't give for this author to be given the time and support to dedicate solid, unencumbered time to create. It would be a masterpiece.

I’m really upset I didn’t love this. I really enjoyed the first 30/40% but then when Alex abducts her everything just turned too weird and fucked up for me and not in a redeemable or enjoyable way.

I did enjoy the writing and prose but my inability to like or care about the characters just ruins it for me.

I didn’t like or trust Alex at all and couldn’t find any redemption within his character. Don’t think I’ll be continuing onto the finale unfortunately.

An utterly spellbinding mind blowing read!
This psychological thriller had me on the edge of my seat and my heart pounding so hard.
And my mind questioning who is the disturbed one.
And who is the sane one.
The blurb gives the premise of the plot.
So I won’t say more than what’s already given.
But I will say it’s absolutely thrilling, it’s dark and truly twisted!
Alex and Blakely are fascinated by each other.
So much so they form a strange kind of alliance.
Which then turns into a twisted raw gritty hate/love “thing”.
Alex is a complex intriguing character.
He left me wondering was he always like this.
Or did the circumstances of his loss lead him down the dark dark rabbit hole he chose to go down in.
Blakely is also interesting.
She differs significantly from the definition of what “normal” is supposed to be.
But by the end of the book Ms. Wolfe had me questioning what is normal?
Does having the title of Doctor make the actions more acceptable than someone without it?
Does trying to “fix” a personality defect justify what is wanted as an outcome?
Would I rather be the doctor or the psychopath?
Just some of the few questions that was going through my mind this amazing author had me questioning and thinking about.
And now I’m anxiously awaiting the next book to see how Ms. Wolfe will end this twisted tale.

I'm not totally sure I know where to start this review. I have a ton of work to do and can't stop thinking about this book.

How far is too far? Alex Chambers is a doctor with a secret. And he's on a mission...all in the name of science. I wonder?

Which one is the real psychopath?
The word itself stirs up all kinds of emotion in a normal person's mind, but is this mental condition the real issue? or is it what the person does with their life the issue?

I've been a long time fan of this author and she never disappoints. This book will make you examine things no sane person should and will make you question exactly who the real villain is in this story.

Even though this book is what I would consider short, it didn't feel that way to me. This is not a close the cover and move on....no, this one will make you ponder and reconsider long held beliefs.
Although I'm not a huge fan of cliffies, the author takes a natural break and the reader won't be left hanging over the edge, however, I am anxiously awaiting more.

I had been waiting for this book for more than a year and let me tell you it was definitely worth the wait! Trisha Wolfe is one of my go-to authors in dark romance and I've ended up loving every single book of hers that I've read(almost everything that she's written lol). So, I jumped into this story the minute it dropped on my kindle and I was hooked from the very first line!

Cruel follows the story of Blakely Vaughn, whose job is to exact revenge on behalf of her clients(for a fee of course) and Alex Chambers, a biomedical scientist, who for his own reasons is obsessed with finding out a cure for psychopathy.
When a common prey causes their paths to intersect, Blakely becomes the new target for Alex's obsession and while he accompanies her on her revenge job, she is also slowly pulled into the web that he has created. What would happen when a woman who lacks empathy meets a mad scientist obsessed with finding a cure? You'll have to read the book to find out! ;)

This book took me on a crazy, rollercoaster ride and each chapter had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next! The thing that I love the most about Trisha's books is her writing! It's hauntingly beautiful and always pulls me in till I'm completely submerged. And her characters are so unique and multi-faceted! You can never completely figure them out as they'll leave you guessing about many things.

Both Alex and Blakely are very powerful and enigmatic. They're cruel to others and to each other which is what makes them the perfect match. You never know who is the hunter and who is the prey. Who is the catalyst and who becomes the fuel? Even they themselves can't figure it out. They were destined to go on this road from the moment they met each other and the chemistry between them is explosive!

"Thinking of Blakely as a soft, delicate flower makes me smile. She’s neither soft nor delicate."

Neither of Alex or Blakely's actions could be classified as right or wrong, but they drew me into their story completely with their narratives. Blakely is quite different from the usual heroines that we come across and that is reflected in her actions. She's not a character that we would root for that easily, but I loved how the author managed to make me fall in love with her! And Alex may look saner than Blakely at first, but he's just as twisted as her!

I was unable to put my kindle down until the very end and guess what? It ends with a cliffhanger! (*cries*)

I found the overall atmosphere of the book a little similar to the author's other series - Darkly, Madly duet(which is one of my faves along with her Broken Bonds series!). Both of them have twisted characters that play mind games with each other! And some events link these series together.
So, is it wrong to hope for a Grayson-London cameo in the next book? ;)

If you loved that duet, you'll definitely fall in love with Alex and Blakely's story! And if you haven't read any of Trisha Wolfe's books yet, what are you waiting for?

Amazingly Refreshing Twisted Psychological Tale Full of Suspense

What a crazy story!

It starts with Lauraleigh Blakely Vaughn.

Daughter of old money New York socialites, Michael and Vanessa Vaughn.

However, Blakley is anything but a Park Avenue Princess.

(even though she does like her designer clothes and nice things)

Blakely is the women you hire for revenge.
Wives and GF who’s partners are screwing them over are her clients, and Blakley throws herself into her job with no fear.

It also helps the Blakely is a psychopath.

Yep.

You read right.

However, this doesn’t make her a murderer, or necessarily a bad person

Nope.

It just means she doesn’t care about….Well…people.

Emotionally she is void.

She is also acutely aware of her …*cough….condition and has adjusted her behaviour accordingly
.

So, when she is hired by the wife of CEO Ericson Daverns ( the dirty, lying deviant) to get dirt on her husband so she can divorce his cheating ass., Blakely has no problem with completely changing appearance to lure in the POS.

However it all goes to S… when she finds herself being scrutinised by Dr,Alex Chambers, a bio medical scientist, math genius, and developer of apps, who spots her in the nightclub where she is pretending to be an escort to the horrible Daverns, in an effort to ruin his career.

Its during this first meeting between these two, and subsequent working relationship that sets forth a set of circumstances that Blakely, as smart as she is at reading people, never saw coming.

This unexpected surprise from Alex, changes the whole slant of the second half of the book.

Not going to give anything away here.
You’ll just have to read it .
Personally, I LOVED the sudden change of events.

The psychological twists and turns made for an exhilarating read.

I.Could.Not.Put.It.Down.

This book is the definition of a page turner.

It was a breath of fresh air.
After all the monotonous BR, RH, HEA’s I have read lately with the same old tropes.
.
This book called to my dark side.
Probably not to everyone’s taste but I thought it was perfect.
If you don’t like, you can stick with your vanilla Romance with the HEA’s epilogues.
Give me a dark, dark twisted romance any day

First time read from this author.
Now I want to read MORE
Can’t wait to start the next one.

Alex is a scientist who's goal is to cure psychopathy. He has a checklist, 5 dead previous test subjects, and is on the hunt for his next experiment. This one, he's sure, will be the one.
Blakeley is your typical Psychopath. She checks all the boxes. Once Alex sees her, he can't let her go. He's determined to find a cure for the unfeeling, but can he succeed this time?
As you can see, this one was quite unique. I love psychological thrillers that dig deeper into the mind. This one was well written, but sorta does end on a cliffhanger. It's not so bad that you'll want to throw things, but you'll definitely want to read the next. Overall, an interesting one. I'll be on the lookout for book 2.

What a deep book!
Trisha Wolfe is an author I discovered not long ago, and whose work I absolutely adore.
Cruel, the first book in the Cruel Malady duet, took me by surprise and led me down into the rabbit hole. Did I like what I found? I utterly loved hating Alex. The madness of the plot and the psychological disorders of the characters gripped mento no end and kept me thrilled from beginning to end. Delusion, obsession. Cruel is dark, unhinged. It blurs the limit of right and wrong, playing with scientific concepts and medical procedures, on a background of mythological references.
Great writing, great storytelling.
A must-read that sent me reeling. I can't wait to dive into the second book.

Trisha did it again!!! I went in this book blind, but I was soooo surprised of the direction it went. Alex and Blakely, oh man they are two magnets that they will not get away from each other. So good! I can always tell Trisha does her research as what she writes seems believable. Very well done as I can't wait for the conclusion. If your into suspense/thrillers you really should read all of Trisha's books. I just love her men's POV's as well. Plus, I really love this cover!!!

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
