The day the dark stranger came was the day Wren Striker’s pack was destroyed.
All his life, Wren has known only his clan. His place. His service to his lord. Young, vulnerable, sheltered within one of the last fortresses held by wolves in a ruined, drowning world, Wren was raised to know only one thing:
As an omega, he was born to be his alpha’s mate.
But when the alpha of his pack challenges a stranger trespassing on their lands, a devastating loss to the mysterious, soft-spoken brute of a wolf leaves their pack shattered and without a leader. Yet when the dark stranger demands not dominance, but Wren himself as his price and his prize, Wren finds himself torn from the wolf-eat-wolf world he’s always known to become one half of a pack of two with no home but the wandering road and open sky.
The strange man known as Ero Wake claims he isn’t an alpha. Isn’t a leader. Isn’t anything but a lone wolf finding a way to survive in a broken world, where dryads and werewolves war for space with humans and halflings; where blood frenzies turn man into beast and beast into monster; where the Echo’s subliminal whispers seek out the unwary and lure them north, to a centuries-old Disc waiting with its eldritch songs that broke the world. But Ero knows more than he lets on, secrets as old as the end of the Earth, and something about the strength beneath his silence calls to every primal thing buried inside Wren.
It’s animal. It’s instinctive. It’s a need deeper than blood, a craving to belong to Ero and Ero alone. Every day with the much older wolf stokes the mating heat in Wren’s blood higher—yet for Ero, the risk of mating with Wren is too dangerous. Too frightening, when losing control of himself could unleash a beast more feral than any the world has ever seen. Half broken, touched by the Echo, Ero isn’t like any wolf Wren has ever met.
But if Ero isn’t careful…he’ll find himself tamed and bending to Wren’s delicate touch, both his heart and his wildness bound up in steel.
Half man, half feral animal, wholly letting himself loose in stories plunging deep into the darker animal nature of human kind. We all have a beast inside us, straining to get loose, hungry to surrender to each and every primal urge.
DAMNNNNNNNNNN!!!!! 🔥 I’m actually miffed at Barbara and Lyn for not remembering me to rec this book because this book is aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesome!!! ❤️ How did this one escape my radar for far too long is beyond my understanding! 😳 I love EVERYTHING about this book!!!!! 😍 The eerily beautiful, unique and haunting world-building, very unconventional protagonists and onehelluva romance! It was everything I love about ABO romances and more!
The world has been changed and unrecognizable for almost a millennia now, at least unrecognizable for those who were born and survive before every changed. Ero, broken, lonely and aimless, has been wondering around this earth for centuries, hoping, searching for something even he doesn’t know. And then, while traveling and minding his own business, Ero was challenged by a vicious, ruthless alpha for trespassing his territory. Ero warned him not to do it because he knew he’d be the last one standing. The other alpha foolishly didn’t listen. And now, Ero found himself being the guardian of an omega he impetuously brought from the primeval pack. He thought his heart was dead and frozen. But naive and innocent and shy Wren provokes the feelings and emotions he didn’t know he still possessed. Loving someone is a dangerous and stupid thing to do in the cruel world they now live in. Except Ero can’t help it. If he has to go against everything and everyone to be with his destined mate, he’d sacrifice even his own life to be with Wren.
Did I say I love this book? 😁 Oh well, let me just say it again because I freaking love it soooooooooooooo much!!!!!! ❤️ I can’t believe that this is the debut book of the author. I simply can’t! 😱 The romance, the UST, the eerie dystopian setting, mysteries and their epic journey! I was completely swept away. And that’s smoking-hot, pants-waving, breath-hitching, cold-shower-needing sex! It was on FIRE!!! 🔥🔥🔥 I can’t even capture how awesome this book is because this is the kind of book you need to read yourself to understand how exquisite it is. For now, I only have one agenda in my mind! To wait squirming for the next book in the series because I can’t get enough. 😭 Loved, loved, loved it so much! 💜 Highly highly recommended if you like unique and refreshing romances! 👍
5 I found my home and my anchor in you stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a debut??? Damn! I’m impressed. It feels like forever since I’ve read such a captivating m/m pnr. The story is original with the perfect combination of dark and sweet! Loved it! I’m looking forward to many, many more books by this author. Pleasssseee!
Thanks so much, Barbara!! You were right. I needed to read this book.
Holy crap on a cracker! This was shifter meets The Walking Dead meets barbarians. Seriously. I could not put this down.
The world is not like it used to be. It's barbaric and desolate where humans fear the werewolves in most places. And the werewolves keep to themselves in settlements.
Ero is a drifter, just walking what is left of Earth after the Discfall. When he reaches a werewolf settlement, he just wants to trade. The alpha has other plans and decides to challenge him. But Ero has already noticed the pretty omega who calls to him in a way he can't ignore. And Wren has noticed him too. When things get ugly, Ero has only a few demands. One is the most important. He wants Wren. He tells himself it's just to get him out of a bad situation but he's only kidding himself.
Wren is an omega. He was "born to be" the alpha's mate. He doesn't know much else though he longs to be something different. He refuses to give the alpha of his pack his love. When Ero comes to their keep, he can't take his eyes off of him. And though he's scared, when Ero demands Wren be given to him, he doesn't fight it.
This was beautiful and bizarre...definitely different. But it caught my attention from the first page. I wanted to see how this all played out. Ero was so good to Wren. He was sweet and careful, not the beast he proclaims he is. **There is one instance of what I would consider dub-con where and it's a bit brutal imo.** Wren was sweet and naive. He didn't know anything outside of the keep walls. I loved getting to see him learn new things, his excitement and wonder. And how he came to love Ero...the pull.
This is a slow-burn with Ero denying what his wolf tells him and Wren hurting because of it. But it was also sweet to see the love grow between these two. They both deserved to have someone love them.
I still have questions about some things, like the Discfall, what all that entailed etc. And I've already done my stalking research, and the author has at least one book coming out soon so I will be definitely watching for that.
Re-read OCT 2021: It was darker than I remembered and showing a lot of the social differences between the Alphas and Omegas but also between the leftover human communities and the werewolves. Still, the beautiful relation between Ero and Wren so full of understanding, and getting to know each other, and respect, is definitely something worth reading about! I truly love them both!
Original review:
Absolutely beautiful!
Why have I waited so long to review it?? But, on the other hand, I still think of this book, especially while reading wolf-shifter romances, and I still find it incomparable to any other Alpha/Omega books I've read. And that means a great, unique story!
I don't even have good words to describe it... Bind Me in Steel is a post-apocalyptic story set in a universe that is bleak and hopeless, full of the never-ending Echo calling the werewolves to the North, to the Disc and to perdition.
The love story between Ero Wake, an Alpha, and Wren Striker, an Omega, is intense and deep. It starts with an impulse, a scent, a lustful moment of weakness, when Ero demands Wren handed over to him as his prize for defeating the ruling Alpha.
Ero doesn't need anyone in his life. He's one of the oldest werewolves walking on the planet - always on his own since the destruction of his initial pack. He's tired and disillusioned, living day by day, wandering the lands according to changing seasons. He has nothing to offer to Wren, or so he thinks...
Wren is curious. He's never felt comfortable in his role of the Alpha mate. Suddenly being on the way with Ero gives him a glimmer of hope. He wants to know more, to see more, to feel more. He's never cared for himself, never wandered far from the fortress where he lived and he's eager to learn. Everything Ero offers is new to Wren and he absorbs it, curiously and willingly, even if Ero won't touch him, at all.
The world-building and the atmosphere of the story are beyond words - I can't believe it's BEAST .'s debut book. I have never heard of this Author and I keep wondering if it's some other writer's nom de plume... The world-building is so well-thought of, so fascinating and so detailed - I simply couldn't put this book down! I believe there are supposed to be some other books in the same universe and I can't wait to read them all.
So, if you love a good post-apo setting, with ambiguous MCs and a slow-burn relationship with a touch of mpreg - this read is definitely for you! I can't praise it highly enough!
I REALLY liked this dystopian, werewolf, alpha/omega, mpreg story!
It was very well crafted, the world building was slow and steady, and the character development drew me into the story.
I’m still unsure of a lot of what this world entails, particularly in regards to omega physiology. We have the standard child bearing omegas, heats, knotting , ruts and such, but what was different was the description of the omega’s genitalia. Here, near about 1,000 years into a catastrophic disaster, omegas have “folds.” I don’t know why, but his kinda squicked me out in an MM book. I’m still pondering it and wondering at my prejudice at having male anatomy described with typical female terms. Never mind that I’m wholly accepting of the fact that said omega has a womb. It’s turned me inside out and making me question my presumptions and stereotyping.
Aside from that odd nugget, I love this book and can’t wait for more in the series from BEAST!!
Wow!! This story was gorgeous! I saw Truuss's Fantastic Review, and was inspired to borrow this story via KU. I started it last night and could not put it down. I read it in one sitting, and I do not regret being tired today (totally worth it)!
Other reviews do a much better job of summarizing the story, and I am still too enraptured with the story to do more than gush. Let me just say that this story is stellar. As I was reading it, I kept imaging a movie playing out in bright technicolor; the imagery is vivid and darkly beautiful.
I see that there will be more stories to come in this series, and I can't wait to return to this fantastic world.
After seeing three consecutive 5* reviews for this book appear on my Goodreads feed it instantly became my next read.
I love a good dystopian and this is that and more. It’s set in the time after Discfall and the earth is a very different place.
A lot of the earth is flooded. Werewolves are common, some live isolated lives while others mingle or roam. Ero roams.
The world that’s been created here (which I don’t fully understand yet) is absolutely fascinating. It’s revealed to us through Wren’s eyes and Ero’s stories and memories. Because yes Ero is that old. He remembers the time before and to someone as young and isolated as Wren that’s unbelievable.
This book is fantastic and more than worthy of my first 5* rating of the year.
I don’t generally (ever) copy parts of the the blurb in reviews but this is fabulous.
"Wren,” he repeated reverently, burying his face in Wren’s hair while Wren clutched at him with what little strength he had, clinging as tight as he could as his heart leaped with a bittersweet and longing ache. “Oh thank god, Wren.” ................
It was so good and nothing like what I had expected it would turn out to be. The blurb held me captive with its vagueness. I was burning with curiosity. But I did not expect the sweetness and deep adoration from Ero who constantly claimed he was nothing more than a sheer monster and Wren would be better off without him. * and we all know this line does not work in this theme. Hahaha*
There was a wild and animalistic moment of knotting and dominance from Ero.
Don't worry, Wren seemed to like it just fine * more than fine actually..... yeah and a bit more than that .....*wink*
Too short to my liking but totally nailed it.
This author, Beast, is definitely included in my favourite authors. How could he not?
Ero is used to being a lone wolf when he comes upon a pack. His intention is to trade but the Alpha of the pack has other ideas. Forced to take action Ero delivers a crushing blow to the pack. He only request 4 things from this pack, one of them being the alpha's mate Wren. All Wren ever knew in life was whatever Connaught taught him. Destined to be the mate of Connaught he has been sheltered much of his young life. He has never been outside of his pack's walls. When a stranger comes in and wants Wren to go with him Wren does. The two travel together to the South where Ero hopes to take Wren to the Silk Islands. A place that is supposedly peaceful to live. While traveling Ero teaches Wren many new things about the outside world. A world that has changed drastically since discfall. Where humans and wolves are working to survive. During these travels Wren begins to develops feelings for Ero. Feelings Ero refuses to return. Ero is used to walking the Earth alone. He has been doing it for centuries but there is something in Wren that calls him. However, Ero's past stops him from answering the callback. It is not until a drastic event that Ero realizes how he feels. But will his realization be too late? Overall, pretty entertaining read. I did like the build up between the two MC's. I, however, did not like the little information on what is known as Discfall. I wish the author would have went into more detail on the topic. I think that would of helped me understand the world these MCs are living in better. I do see there will be 5 books total in this series so, perhaps we will get more information on it then.
The cover is totally misleading - what's up with the ropes?? No ropes anywhere in the book!
What's up with the title?? Nothing to do with binding anyone in any steel!! I feel like the cover and title are for some other book!!!
Star off just for that.
Anyway...
It was a good read. Well written. We're in a postapocalyptic world where werewolves exist but before they didn't. They run in packs and there are alphas (equiv of human male) and betas (which don't survive) and omegas (which are males with penises and no boobs but also with the female sex organs so they can have pups, equiv of human female).
So that there is... unusual.
They are described as "he" so alpha+omega = MM romance.
BUT the sex involves penetration of the "female" part. So... not quite sure that's MM.
Plus, how do the omegas nurse their pups without breasts????
Anyway... that whole thing was never explained, didn't detract from the story, but do make you wonder about some weird areas.
The other reason it's 1 star off is bc the pivotal sex moment is actually a rather "bestiality" like moment (and it's not a moment, it's pretty long). The alpha is in his werewolf form and essentially tears into the omega in a really rough and painful and bloody manner with his gigantic parts. And since I just read a book on the subject, I rather think this scene mirrors what I read. It was an animal with human kind of rutting. And it was LONG.
Whereas, the sex where the 2 MCs are together IN LOVE toward the end is barely a paragraph.
So.... not sure how I feel about that.
But both MCs are likable. It's an interesting, vivid world. I was confused for a while about 2 males being mates and HAVING BABIES! But... OK... I caught on eventually.
Oh boy I loooooved this one.. A masterpiece... dark hurtful, but also delicate beautiful. Wren together with Ero and all the environments completely enchanting, it made me lightheaded. Story is an Alpha/Omega post-apocalyptic shifter romance... that’s one of a hell mouth full. With other words...a beautiful story with two werewolves in a dazzling surrounding, with whispering dryads and winds full of scents.
When the enormous beastly muscular Ero steps into Wren life it is with so much power, willingly restrained, Wren knows he has to follow him. Ero saved Wren from his ruthless ‘alpha’ and he will bring him to a save place where the beautiful delicate omega with endless long silk hair and soft voice can live. After that Ero will continue his travel among the earth... alone Their journey is a long one through rough terrain... When feelings develop Ero knows they must travel faster because he can’t mate this lovely fragile creature... he is far far to dangerous.
It was like there was, most of the time, a veil of silk above all the lines, moving with a gentle breeze. Sometimes it turned into something dark and sharp and then again in silk. Wren and Ero were breathtaking.. I couldn’t believe my eyes...
Utterly captivating... written in a magnificent way... it created a beautiful atmosphere I almost stopped breathing... highly sensual... exquisite and with a steady strong plot This whole story was just spectacular and a mustread!!
Seriously this is a very good post apocalyptic mpreg book.
I like mpreg, and I am always looking for more to read but usually the stories don't captivate me. It's been a long while since I read something so good! The author did such a good job of explaining the world after the Disc fell and how the people changed. Despite this being a small book, about 140 pages, it felt complete and I wished it was longer.
First chapter and I was hooked. I felt the characters chemistry from the beginning and that is rare for me and mpreg books.
I had a lot of questions about the world but I see that this will be a series and hopefully we'll get more info about that. The idea of the Echoes and the Dryads was very good and I'd like to know more about that as well.
I was utterly confused throughout the whole book. What is the Disc and what exactly happened at Discfall? And I know what the Echo is mostly and that it comes from the north, but what does it say? And what's in the north that it draws people there, only to never return? I guess the author's intention was to keep me in suspense all along. He did drop some hints, but eventually I wanted answers to these questions. I have a vague idea about what happened, but I'm not sure.
Things just seemed to be happening one after the other, there was no stopping this story. One problem got solved and they fell right into another. There was very little breathing room between the events.
I'm starting to get annoyed with characters who think they're not good for anyone, "I'm a monster, I don't deserve you, you should find someone who will treat you right". Ero is exactly that broody alpha, who doesn't let himself be happy.
I'm not sure how I feel about Wren. A few times he seemed a prideful, defiant omega, which I liked. But he was also spoilt an pampered, and I know that's absolutely not his fault, but ugh. :( His naiveté however, how he looked at the world with wonder, was endearing.
I expected something would happen with the world. Something good. That everything would be all right eventually. But I guess it's not that kind of story. I just wasn't ready for the utter hopelessness that grew with each chapter. And I think that was my biggest problem. Everything felt so glum. It was not a happy story.
Otherwise it would have been a beautifully spun tale if I got an explanation to the above mentioned questions. I was intrigued by the merging of the apocalyptic and ABO world, but didn't particularly like the execution.
The part the author warned me about, THAT... I did not like. 😣 It's no one's fault, but mine. The warning is not in the blurb, I checked just now. It's at the beginning of the book. Read the sample.
I enjoyed this book, it is a different take on a post apocalyptic shifter world. I loved Ero, I thought he was the true definition of an Alpha and Wren was adorable with all his innocence.
I would have liked to have some more details about the world that they were living in, like what the hell is the Disc? Why is it effecting them so much? And what happens to the shifters that go North and never return?
This book has great potential and I see that it is suppose to be a series, so I hope a lot of the answers will come out in future books.
This was a unexpectedly delightful read for me. I got fucky monsters, hair kink, frank discussions of consent, genders beyond cisgender, mocking of very wrong human research on not real alpha wolves and mpreg that wasnt magic butt babies. And the proper use for the term intersex.
This was absolutely delightful! I am generally wary of most mpreg these days for being incredibly toxic of stereotypes but this was a fantastic read. The writing was sold and great I love the dryads and the whole concept of the world and the horrors in it. It felt dark but it also felt hopeful. That no matter how dark and awful things were there was still hope for survival.
I suggest checking the content warnings in the beginning before reading as there are two scenes that are mildly dubious in nature and that handled any other way probably would have pissed me off but didnt.
Okay so several of my GR friends gave this story amazing reviews and high praise. So I decided to give this a go! So either I was expecting too much out of this, or it was that the the author confused me when using the word ‘folds’ twelve times during the sexy bits. See I equate the word ‘folds’ to sexy times in a MF book, not a MM book. It also didn’t help that the word cunt was used as well. So yeah. Besides that I did enjoy the world building of this dystopian society. There are somethings in the storyline that I would like more info on, ie the disc, which I am hoping will be brought up in the future.

Wow! So, first off, I'm going to deviate from my usual reviews because...I'm speechless. I'm honestly so impressed with this novel and the talent of the author, for their debut book, that I barely know what to say. So I'm going to keep it short.
From page one, I was immediately sucked in. It has all the things I want in a novel – at least one MC that I care about and can relate to; well written world building; a clear storyline; and heart. That's all I ever want in a novel and I got it all, right here. With beautiful prose, sometimes almost lyrical writing when it came to attention to detail, description, the dryads and the romance, which I utterly loved. And an abundance of well written action scenes and even better written slow burn romance.
The romance was sweet and feisty in places. The sex was hot and heavy. The action was well crafted and suited to the characters. The MPREG storyline was handled perfectly. The bad guy was a real bad guy, and not someone redeemable or weak. The world was nicely explored, at relevant moments, split between Ero's recollections and his teachings to the sheltered Wren.
I loved the chemistry between Wren and Ero, right from Chpater 1 and throughout the story. The slow burn between them was nicely developed, with a steady pace that grew from understanding and spending more time together. I loved that Ero was willing to teach Wren about the world, about consent, and show him that life could be different and better. I love that he never pressed his advantage with Wren, that he wanted him willingly or not at all. It took 50% before the first sign of sexual contact and even then it fit perfectly into the story and didn't bring the characters any closer together than the plot deemed appropriate. It wasn't all sunshine and perfect after that, which was nice to see. They had stumbling blocks to get past, hesitations, and Ero was smart enough to realise the challenges ahead.
Overall, I loved every second of it. It is incredibly well written and presented for a debut novel. I will gladly read it again before delving eagerly into book 2, whenever it releases. And I'll be hoping that, at some point in the future, I can add it to my favourite reads on my bookshelf by getting the paperback. Because this is one book that I'd be willing to re-read again and again in the future. While remaining an original take on the Alpha/Omega genre, it reminded me in the best ways of TJ Klune's Immemorial Year, and I can't wait to see what else the author can do, and what else awaits me in the Bind Me world.
Rich. Haunting. Captivating. Dark. Enthralling. Call it what you will, Bind Me In Steel is a masterpiece!

“Let me have just this moment.”
“Somehow – through fate, through happenstance, through the strangest of chance – he had found the one thing that could give a thousand years of life true meaning, and free him from his self-imposed purgatory. And he had almost been fool enough to let it go.”
I have read some shifter books but tend to avoid mpreg and the like. Still this got good ratings from my friends so I thought I would give it a go. The world building is excellent. I could picture this post apocalyptic world. There is no awkward explanation of how things got to be how they are. Some things are revealed as the two characters talk but it is not much. Something has occurred and humans came close to extinction. Some became werewolves, but it is not clear how or why. None of them are female. Though the anatomy of the omega's is thankfully muddy. This made it easier for me to deal with the mpreg.
The story itself if exceptionally simple but nicely told. The ending was a bit weak. I would happily read more in this world or more by this author but there appears to be nothing.
