Good gravy, I didn't think I'd like Kronos NEARLY as much as I did. I mean, for all his intentions were good, his actions in the previous books spurred a civil war of sorts among his people. Yet I ended up liking the guy. SO MUCH.
He's taciturn and kinda grumpy, but he's changed since those early bloody days. His willingness to open his mind to possibilities (however grudgingly) made him a big, cuddly sour puss.
And Eva. OH MY GOODNESS. The way Kronos was there for her after her accident. The way he pushed her out of her guilt and depression and forced her to live again. I'm getting all swoony here. Seriously, though. I did adore that his pushed her. He wasn't always nice about it, but he gave her a target for her anger and accepted that her hard words weren't really meant for him when circumstances got her down.
I really REALLY liked these two together. Heck, I like everything about this series. The Kraken. The humans. The way the two species are trying to forge alliances. The sexy tentacle time. JUST EVERYTHING.
Next up...VASIL. I am ready!

I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Kronus is now doing the last thing he ever expected; living and working in close proximity with humans. It doesn’t really feel like home though, his shame about his past keeps him back from humans and kraken alike. But his life is completely changes when he saves a woman from an attack at sea. He is immediately drawn to her and recognises her grief and loss. He is determined to save her once again, only this time it's from her own despair.
To say I have been excited about this book is an understatement. My hands have been itching to get hold of it since I discovered who the hero is: Kronus. For anyone who hasn’t read the series, this can be read as a standalone, the romance itself stands on its own two feet (or tentacles…!). However, I don’t recommend it. Kronus’ character has evolved massively since we first meet him in book 1. And, although this is explained in Rising from the Depth I am a big fan of books showing and not telling. Witnessing his actions and choices in the previous books gives this book a depth and an understanding you won’t get by reading it as a standalone.
I love the redemptive magic of romance and Roberts wields this really well in Rising from the Depth. Kronus is an unexpected hero, he started the series as someone full of hate and fear. His way of life was changing and he knew exactly who to blame; humans. He was the villain of the piece. The last few books have shown him as more than just a caricature “bad guy” and this redemption is fully realised in this book. Shame plagues him, and his own guilt is preventing him from becoming part of the new human-kraken community. Until of course Eve comes along and he has to confront this.
Eva also goes through a transformation in this book. She starts out as a happy young woman newly moved to the town because of the whirlwind romance with her new husband. However, after a traumatic event that led to her not only losing her leg but also her friends and ultimately her husband she falls into a depression. My heart was breaking for her when I was reading this book. Firstly, I loved that we had a heroine who was an amputee. Secondly I love that she didn’t just brush off such a horrible experience and run into the arms of her tentacled rescuer.
I really enjoyed the romance between Eva and Kronus, it’s a kind of nursing-someone-back-to-health deal. But the traditional roles were reversed and the male was the caregiver and the female was the one who needed the care. And, although this wasn’t a slow burn per se, the relationship was definitely something that was built through the book. I really enjoyed the way they both managed to heal something in the other person.
This is my favourite book in the series so far! I am now dying to get my hands on the next book in the series.

Damn.
This one was an emotional struggle for everyone involved.
I cried so much while reading this book.
Definitely check TWs. This book has a lot of hard topics to read about.
There was a very traumatic accident at the beginning of the book that just mentally wrecked Eva and the other characters.
If you’re triggered by the loss of a limb and the loss of friends, the turmoil of emotions that come with that, and suicidal thoughts of any degree, I’d definitely say to precede with caution or maybe just skip this one if you’re not mentally there yet.
This was not an easy, light read.
But.
It was definitely worth it in my opinion.
The romance and growth between these two characters was absolutely heart warming to watch on page.
The sex was loving and hot and healing for both of them. And their love just grew as they spent more time with each other.
It was so satisfying to watch Kronus grow and help Eva heal. And Eva in turn helped Kronus heal along the way.
It was a struggle to read for so many reasons. But it was absolutely beautiful too.
I loved it.
And that epilogue!
I’m so excited to see what happens with Vasil next. What happens with Halora next.

Merfolk May continues...
Kronus, long suffering anti-human advocate, has repented his beliefs and lives in the mixed community. But he has no home.
Not until he rescues Eva from a razorback.
After the loss of her leg, and the death of their friends, Eva’s husband divorces her. Eva tries to commit suicide but Kronus saves her again.
No kraken abandons a female.
“If you would throw away your life, then I will claim it as mine.”
This was an emotional chapter of the kraken series and while I laud the authors for tackling difficult situations I hope the next book is more fun.
Because I already bought it!

This may be the best of the series. I haven't read several of them for awhile so I forget small details, so no betting on it, but it was a surprisingly good sequel. Bring on the tentacles! That hilarious, awkward conversation with Randall leading the way about female anatomy - including finger and hand signals - yep, a winner.

This is Knonus story. He is the one who was against any interaction with humans since book one and advocated strongly against humans living in The Facility.
After the end of book 4 he finds himself living amongst the humans in the mixed community in The Watch but hes still riddled by guilt for everything that went down with his followers.
This was very angsty and with heavy topics as suicidal FMC, but once we got to the point of them being a couple it got sweet and steamy.

Book 5 in The Kracken Series.
This is Kronus' story, following the battle that almost cost the previous books characters their lives...Kronus finds himself living amongst the humans and Kracken of The Watch.
despite having a home, and second chance with his fellow Kracken ( and their mates ) kronus still finds himself feeling adrift...where others have found peace... he is left feeling destined for none...until he sees Eva.
Saving her allows him to save himself and gives him purpose.. and so much more.. This story doesn't have the action and conflict that were common in the other books, but I think it's my favourite. It's a story about healing of the mind and body and second chances received and given. Ultimately about inner strength and the need and desire to go on regardless of obstacles that appear in your way.... and it was beautifully done.
The world building that continues to develop and grow within this series blows my book pimping brain. The characters may be make believe but they are created with emotion and passion that is so real... despite being a fantasy book... their challenges and struggles are very realistic. I adore this series and cannot wait to read the next instalment.

Welp. I never expected to like Kronus and it turns out I don’t, I LOVE him wtf.
How dare TR write a beautiful, heart-warming story and give this hero —who has been a villain for a majority of this series— a redemption arc 😭 I feel wronged but in the best way possible lol. Call me dramatic but I’m pretty sure I can write an essay on why I loved this so much and I hate essays. The fact that the previous characters are incorporated in the story somehow just makes it better. At this point, I feel like a proud mom reading about my kids and grandkids 🤧
This is definitely one of my fav sci-fi series

Excellent redemption arc
Kronus was the villain/antagonist for most of the previous books, and he well earned the anger of the MCs. Eva was imperfect herself, and had gone through a tragedy that would break just about anyone. They came together beautifully and were able offer each other the solace they needed, even if they didn’t always see eye to eye.

Another fantastic addition to the Kraken Series, Rising from the Depths is a romance with heart. Kronus is a Kraken who doesn’t feel at home anywhere. He works with humans and other Kraken in the Watch, but has no friends. Eva appears to have a perfect life until one day a day at the beach turns anything, but typical. Kronus saves Eva’s life that day. Eva ends up losing her leg, her friends, and her conceited husband. She sinks into despair. Kronus knows these feelings all too well and he befriends her while pushing her to do better.
This romance story is a slight departure from the previous books in the series as it has less action and more deep connections. I really enjoyed the relatively slow burn of their relationship. This is one of the best books I have ever read. It’s a story about redemption, self worth, love and forgiveness. This story made me cry 3 or 4 times. It’s super romantic and spicy. I can’t say enough good things about it. So, I used to be a snob and thought that one of the best books ever couldn’t be about a half man half octopus, but I was wrong.

This was by far my favorite of the series. The theme behind this particular novel is definitely my favorite trope, but I absolutely adored the relationship between Kronus and Eva. Just ADORED! I mean this story couldn't be any more perfect. I was weary at the beginning because I wasn't sure I was going to like the fact that Eva was "married" (their term is joined), but Tiffany Roberts definitely handled the breakdown of their relationship well. You realize really quickly not all is as it seems between Eva and Blake. It also flowed pretty seamlessly into Eva's relationship with Kronus and didn't feel rushed or problematic at all considering her last relationship ended so recently.
Lots of angst in this one...more so than any other novel, but it was beautiful! The angst wasn't between the two of them feeling they didn't deserve each other, but rather both of them coming to terms with their reason to exist. It was a true journey of self-discovery for these protagonists. They were realizing their lives have meaning. You have two lost, broken people who have found each other and slowly heal one another. The way Kronus was interacting with Eva as she recovered from her accident was just incredibly romantic. When she needed to be angry, he gave her a punching bag and a reason to vent. When she needed her space to cry, he left her alone. When she needed someone to hold her, he was there. He just constantly pushed her to want to live again in whatever way he could.
And I...just..., I don't ever remember a kraken having such a beautiful way with words! I mean...they just threw all the good lines in this one!

And I was loving every page of it! Definite keeper...five wonderful, spectacular, amazing stars!

Tiffany Roberts, just wow. I’ll be honest, I was worried about this book in the series.
Most authors when telling it from the point of view of a past villain tend to make the character different from what he was previously portrayed in the earlier books, and you did not do that. Kronus was true to his character throughout the book. I loved seeing his progression to this point.
The plot was well thought out and hit a few touchy subjects. The main thing that I got out of it was: “No pain, no gain” and “Everyone deserves a second chance.” I will definitely be continuing the series.

Another good addition to the Kraken series. I was curious how they were going to give Kronus his own story. I like the way it was handled, dealing with his changing mind set and giving more depth to the hows and whys of his actions from previous stories in this series. The one thing keeping this from being a five-star was I just didn't feel that Eva was as fleshed out as she could have been. She's a good character, don't get me wrong, I just felt something was missing with her. That she wasn't as developed as the females in the previous stories.
Still a good read and I anticipate the next in the series in spring.

I am completely surprised to find myself placing Kronus’ story at the top of my list from this series. I was absolutely captivated by this one. It’s a story focus on love and redemption. Plot is cast to the side to focus on the love story at its heart, on two broken people (beings?) finding the strength to keep going, and finding one another along the way.
Their love does feel to happen at rapid pace, but considering the subgenre, I’ll let it slide.
I overall enjoyed this one immensely!

This story moved me deeply. Amid tragedy, Kronos is able help Eva move from the depths of sorrow to anger to a heathy outlook. He would not be swayed from his goal. He saw her strength, her worth, in a way no one else did. Eva, in turn, was good for him. What a great couple they make! They DO rise from the depths. The rewards are phenomenal. I’ve been eager to read Kronos’ story - it exceeded my expectations!

For being about tentacle "monsters" the sex is shockingly vanilla. The heroine's personality was vague at best, what was shown and what was written in regards to it were contradictory. The exposition, while interesting, was interspersed in really odd places. The climactic fight scene, which I was enjoying, was driven to a screeching halt by one of the many, MANY poorly timed exposition dumps. Not to mention the miraculous healing time and adjustment period for an amputee. I know they had a wonder shot, but aside from the mention of prosthetic pads it left a bad taste in my mouth as a plot device.
Also the antagonist is painfully one-dimensional, and acts unlike any human person I have ever met.

Redeemed
Kronus finally gets the chance to start actually living his life again, and how he does is a beautiful struggle with a stubborn, brave, beautiful woman who needs as much help as him. They grow into new and better people together.

Never in a million years did I think Kronus's book would become my favorite but that is exactly what happened. Not only has he tortured himself with guilt, he's also living on land with 'humans' whom he once hated with a passion beyond words. Kronus's self imposed torture lasts I believe for a year until he saves the day and rescues the girl.
There are so many feels with this book and many or painful, not necessarily for readers but both the MC's are put through the ringer. Kronus really steps up his game once he has a mate of his own. He somehow stick around when most would run and helps his mate learn to live, love and revel in life once again. Not something I thought I'd be saying about Kronus but he really surprised me. The authors did an astounding job of just writing the characters and letting the story flow. There's no forced forgiveness on their part and Kronus really earns his place and redeems himself and I couldn't be happier.

Now that I've put you in your place. Thank you for making me feel things for Kronus. I really liked Kronus and Eva's story. Kronus was a bit rough around the edges and I don't think I would personally find him yelling at me attractive but I get it. His sweet side did come out though. Like furnishing his den so Eva had everything she needed. Heart eyes <3 So much spicy time in this book compared to the overs, which I appreciate.

Meh. My friends said this was one of the top books in this series... Not for me. This was dull.
I don't think the Tiffany Roberts writing duo is an author for me. Something about their writing doesn't click with me. I like monsterf--king books and science fiction and couples overcoming near impossible odds so I should have adored this series, but I didn't. The shallow and rushed romance and lack of developed characters in this series have made me feel extremely blah about these kraken romances.
I've read the first two books in this series, didn't like them much, then asked my friends for their top book recommendation in this series because I only give a series three chances before forever dropping them if they fail to be entertaining. It was almost a tie between this book and Dracchus's book. This book won by one vote. Maybe I should have read Dracchus' book because this book was not... it.
🐡 For emotions, this book is more emotional because it focuses on healing from trauma. That is an improvement over the first two books in this series that had issues with being too emotionally shallow. This may be largely due to the fact that the book includes heavy topics such as survivor's guilt, suicide ideation, attempted suicide, PTSD, kidnapping, gaslighting, an abusive ex, etc. But the topics were handled well.
🐡 Redeeming former villains is not my favorite trope because it can be very messy when it is not done well (and it rarely is done well enough to be realistic 👀). It wasn't done well here but it was... decent? Kronos had a simple but well written character arc as he learned from his mistakes and took actions to show his change from being a former human hating bigot. I did believe he learned and changed. And romance is all about changing for the better and character growth which both Kronos and Eva did in growing from their prejudices.
🐡 The dynamics between Eva and Kronos were interesting. Here we have a former villain looking for redemption and a girl who is learning to heal from her trauma. I can see how this could be catnip for readers because the former bad boy x traumatized girl is a favorite for a lot of readers. Eva and Kronos were also able to relate to each other in some of their trauma. He was the only one who could understand and help her heal so it made them quite perfect as a pairing. The couple was well thought out.

🛑 This is a healing from trauma romance so there are usually two routes that writers take for this. Number one: have the love interest be supportive and sweet as the hurt character slowly heals as they bond. Number two: have the love interest be an @$$hole bully who forces the hurt character to heal or else as they bicker and fight. Guess which one happened in this book? Of course, the second one. I'm not a fan of the whole bullying into healing trope unless it is done very well. I liked it in Sandra Brown's Adam's Fall but not here.
🛑 When the couple moved on from bickering, the saccharine sweet talk and mushy declarations of love made me want to puke. I like sentimental and can tolerate a considerable amount of mushy love stuff, but I have my limits and this was too sentimental that it just dived into sickening and unrealistic.
🛑 Talking about unrealistic, the romance was a failure. It was very insta lust that never developed into a deeper romance. I never felt that these two characters loved each other. I felt that they trusted each other and depended on each other and cared for each other, but there was this huge gap in their development from friends to true love. It felt like something was missing when they suddenly decided to do the horizontal tango and declare their love for each other.
🛑 There was not enough plot. After the big plot happened, there wasn't much left so the last few chapters felt quite empty and boring. The ending was the most predictable thing ever too.
🛑 The language used in this book was a little ableist, especially regarding the topic of mental health.

We all need the love of someone like Kronus....
We all need the love of someone like Kronus....
Someone who will drag you out of the dark places we can all fall into in life,someone who sees our beauty when do not....
Someone who will remind us of our value when we have forgotten we have any.... Someone shine a light and lead us safely out when we’ve gotten lost in the pull of dark places within...
I’ve needed my own Kronus for soo long in my life, pray I find my own some day,and even though he won’t be a kraken,and this is of course a work of fiction,this oft me feeling good and hopeful ... and maybe just maybe mine is still out there...
I’m one of those who started out not liking Kronus,I mean,how could you ? He was narrow minded and nasty but in the end he proved he wasn’t irredeemable and he was capable of learning and seeing the error of his ways and earning our love and compassion in return...
And I gotta say I LOVED 💕 Kronus here... Lol 😂 there’s just something about the cranky ones isn’t there ?
More laughter,when Kronus stopped running and decided he was gonna be in Eva’s life and the way he pushed and argued with her was sooo cute at times... I just loved it... even his gruff sorta sense of humor w/Aymee about his wood shavings... Aymee telling not to and him just having to push her buttons and do it anyway ,that was sooo funny 😄...
And it was like no matter how gruff and socially awkward Kronus might be he did kinda sorta have a sense of humor..
There’s just something about the gruff and or awkward ones that when they start to grow or get a clue, it just soo much neater and beautiful,you know ?
Eva while I got totally her,I mean to lose soo much all at once ..
Friends who had felt like family,the man you thought “loved” you and most of one of your legs... dam ,beaver, ..
Never quite been there but I do know what it’s like to feel lost and alone and helpless and useless and while I’d have given anything to have had someone like Kronus pushing me and nagging me and refusing to let me give up for even a moment..
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I didn’t want to smack her a few times before she finally got a clue...
I love though how protective Kronus was of her,when Eva finally drug her self out to the ocean to do what we all knew/expected to happen at some point, and decided to claim her as his in his hearts ... I love how he didn’t tell Aymee or anyone where or how he’d found her,how respected her to tell anyone if she wanted them to know...
That said a lot to me...
Kronus didn’t always see it but really though he remained who he was at his core, Kronus to me seemed to complete his almost Grinch like growth on his heart ♥️....
The work had started when he realized not all humans were evil and was willing to sacrifice himself to protect others but even though he fought it I don’t feel like it truly begun in earnest til Eva came along and he could no longer push her away...
Honestly I loved just about even thing to this story,it has a bit of a slow start that I found frustrating,but with the characters involved it made sense and once it did start, I felt it was everything it needed to be...
Only thing that annoyed me,was the lack of humans policing themselves... Blake the cowardly ex,quickly out of control and of course everyone is quick to be offended by anything Kronus does and is slow to react and a bit overly questioning on Blake’s end ,even though he’s drunk and abusive and not even slightly subtle in his behaviors....
I mean yeah,sure Blake was messed up over his cowardice and loss etc. but it’s NOT ok to get drunk and be abusive towards ANYONE! But especially not women,and dragging him off for therapy ,counseling and meds wasn’t all he needed and or deserved...
He deserved to be punished... and while the humans there seem to have a pretty good society there, they were really lacking in ways to deal with their own ppl when they needed to be punished or disciplined...

Kronus redemption! Let's Go! He proved to us that despite his distrust and distain for humans he was still honorable and cared about the lives of females and children since he sees them as invaluable and the future for his people. Without him the battle wouldn't have been won. So now its been years since peace between the two races began and he's been ridden with guilt ever since. Seeing his guilt was great since it's showing his remorse and self reflection. Then he sees Eva, sweet Eva who married the "bad boy" and not the good kind. We get a scene straight from Jaws and Kronus jumps in to the rescue. Eva wakes up missing a leg and her life spirals down when she sees that her husband doesn't truly love her. Kronus steps up and forces her to live. And NOW he finally understands the rest of the krakens who've chosen human mates. It was a bit heart wrenching when he felt like he didn't deserve to be forgiven especially when he swallows his pride to ask for help. Macy is on her third child which is awesome and even Rhea is expecting which is exciting given how difficult conception is for female krakens. The male huddle conversation scene was HILAROUS. I loved it. One of my favorite scenes from the entire series so far. Kronus is a grumpy asshole with harsh words and soft actions and Eva starts seeing it after her darkest moment when she wheeled herself back to the ocean. He claims her life as his and chooses her. The intensity of their love making was a surprise, given Eva's injury also effecting her self-esteam. But Kronus shows her that she is still so beautiful that it raises her self-esteem which i love. Eva's cowardly ex-husband comes back and basically sexually assaults Eva in front of Kronus which doesn't fly and Kronus acts. His action cause a bit of tension on the peace that's been brokered but honestly I wasn't mad at it and half the crowd was on his side. We, the reader, know the Eva's ex-husband is the antagonist of this story now and when he does later should have imprisoned him or exiled him. I personally felt like his actions weren't punished enough. Despite my disappointment the story ends happily as it should. I don't read romance/smut for tragedies. I was hoping for the epilogue to be about Kronus and Eva but instead we get a discussion between Randall and Vasil. Vasil as we know from Randall and Rhea's story is Melaina's his child, and was captured with Neo and Dracchus. We know Vasil is capable, quite, smart, and very very observant, so he figured out he was Melaina's father but chose to not voice his thoughts. Randall nudges him to introduce himself to Melaina and become part of her life. The epilogue leads into Vasil's story which is next. I'm just a little annoyed that the epilogue didn't give us more Kronus and Eva.

¿Algo gracioso? Simplementre no podía terminar el cuarto libro, Heart of the Deep, de lo aburrido que estaba. La historia de Larkin y Dracchus me estaba dando tanto dolor de cabeza que pasé al siguiente libro sin más. Aún intento terminarla, en algún momento lo haré, si es que logro encontrar la personalidad de Larkin.
En cuanto este libro, me gustó la química entre Eva y Kronus, y cómo cada uno de ellos intentaba ayudarse mutuamente a recuperarse de sus traumas y dolores. Debo decir que el comienzo de la historia iba bastate bien, hasta que comenzaron a parecer ciertos clichés y chistes estúpidos que no aportaron nada. Como la clase de biologia femenina para Kronus por parte de los protagonistas anteriores (cringe). Cortó el tono serio y el ritmo que llevaba la historia.
También, lo del ex novio maniático lo he leído tantas veces que ya, a este punto, demuestra un poco de falta de originalidad. Siento que fue muy forzado. A veces una historia de amor no necesita un villano tangible para avanzar. En este caso, me parecía que los protagonistas tenían suficiente en su plato emocinal, traumas y culpas que enmendar, que simplemente me hubiera gustado que los autores se hubieran ido por ese camino, en vez de irse por lo fácil.
Sentí que algunas cosas quedaron inconclusas. Eva sin duda necesitaba mucho más desarrollo. Sufrió un ataque traumatico, perdió una pierna y a tres amigos en el proceso. Ella se sentia tan mal por ellos, pero en ningún solo momento dio intenciones de ir a visitarlos a un cementerio después de su recuperación o darle el pesame a sus familiares. Nada. Se olvidó completamente de ellos. Parecía que lo peor que le había pasado fue que Blake la abandonara. También estaba la depresión, el como odiaba su cuerpo mutilado, el intento de suicidio, la culpa del superviviente, en fin. Este libro tenía muchos temas que no se terminaron de desarollar bien.
Pese a todo, me pareció bien que Kronus tuviera su redención. Aunque su arco de sanar sus culpas también lo sentí demasiado rápido, pero al menos tuvo un cierre y se notó que hubo un gran cambio en él a comparación de los libros anteriores. Me gustó su relación con Eva, pero también se notó algo apresurado. Me hubiera gustado que se hubieran dado más tiempo para empezar a decir que se amaban.
Aún y con todo lo mencionado, siento que este es hasta ahora mi libro preferido en la serie.

I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND KRONUS'S STORY, IT WAS ABSOLUTELY THE SECOND FAVOURITE STORY AND COUPLING IN THIS SERIES AFTER MACY AND JAX FOR ME.
OUR HERO was previously the enemy who opposed the human and kraken coupling, also having a misguided deep rooted hated for humans. For him to be part of the new kraken community at The Watch, to see him come a long way from what he had been...it was awe inspiring. I enjoyed watching the quiet, cranky kraken cohabitate with the beings he once despised, and for him to fall for one now....Oh Boy! I absolutely loved the pairing for this story because it was the best way to show Kronus how to love a human. I couldn't help but adore him for his tenacity and persistence to help a broken Eva and his devotion proved that his feelings were real. You can expect the typical protective, alpha kraken characteristics here as well.
OUR HEROINE first clasped eyes with the ochre Kraken while she was frolicking in the sea with her husband and friends until a razorback attacked them, leaving many dead and her terribly wounded. In the end, she lost a leg and lost her husband who forsaken her. Overwhelmed by grief, pain and terrible loss, Eva becomes a broken shell. She can't understand why the kraken who saved her would go through so much trouble to see her well again and soon, even her heart couldn't withstand his care and comfort, getting to know the man beneath the kraken.
OVERALL this was a sweet and touching story. We get to know more about Kronus who used to stand on the opposite end. And I loved seeing how the other characters' lives were progressing book after book. Can't wait for Vasil's story! Imagine my shock to realise he's Melaina's biological father all this while!

Kronus the considerate?
Kronus knows how humans see his kind. He also knows how some of his kind see him. None of it is favorable. So, seeing beachgoers giggling over the "monster" preparing to help save them from the real monsters on the water is just another day. Until it isn't. One of those monsters was too close to shore, and claimed the lives of 4 people and the leg of the only human who hadn't mocked him. Rescuing her from the waves was only the beginning, though. Because her human mate had abandoned her to the beast, called her deformed after losing her leg, and left her to the care of strangers instead of being a caring husband. Kronus felt kinship with this broken human. So, what's a formerly human hating kraken to do, but care for the broken human, right?

This was healing on so many fronts. Eva getting through her physical recovery, her mental recovery, her emotional recovery. Learning about the monsters her ex-mate and friends had mocked. Learning to trust people after betrayal, abandonment and cruelty. Kronus is learning about the beings he loathed. He's learning, with the rest of the kraken, how to form bonds outside of hunting parties. He's learning forgiveness, of the humans now and of the past, as well as of himself. His hatred brought out such darkness in others, it scared him. This book was amazing. Eva goes from young and not someone you sympathize with to a right decent adult. Kronus goes from a hatemonger to a caring member of society. A merged society at that. Add in the background stories and this book has earned a spot as a new favorite. I love underdogs, those who come from the back of the pack and surprise you.
Kronus knows how humans see his kind. He also knows how some of his kind see him. None of it is favorable. So, seeing beachgoers giggling over the "monster" preparing to help save them from the real monsters on the water is just another day. Until it isn't. One of those monsters was too close to shore, and claimed the lives of 4 people and the leg of the only human who hadn't mocked him. Rescuing her from the waves was only the beginning, though. Because her human mate had abandoned her to the beast, called her deformed after losing her leg, and left her to the care of strangers instead of being a caring husband.
