Gynomite: Fearless, Feminist Porn

Rate this book
Fiction. This is more than just a collection of dirty stories. This is a milestone document from an ongoing movement to change the world, one orgasm at a time. Full of sexually charged language and imagery, unusual points of view, and subject matter covering new territory or still considered taboo, each piece of writing in this book represents an original, personal approach to the concept of feminist porn. The anthology includes work by Nancy Agabian, L.J. Albertano, Liz Belile, Lee Christopher, Jane Creighton, tatiana de la terra, Shaila Dewan, Ammi Emergency, Maggie Estep, duVergne Gaines, Gwynne Garfinkel, Amber Gayle, Michelle Glaw, Tammy Gomez, Trish Herrera, Olive Hershey, Melissa Hung, Sassy Johnson, Miriam R. Sachs Martin, Mary McGrath, Pia Pico, Andrea Roberts, Carlisle Vandervoort, Pam Ward, and Diana Wolfe. A 1995 CD compilation from the Gynomite collective is also available from SPD.

One of those super-tiresome books of "women's erotica" that contains more bad poetry and thinly-disguised political statements than actual porn. If I purchase a book of erotica, it is for the exclusive purpose of reading sexy stories about sexy sex. It is not to read about your abusive dad, or growing up on welfare, or how your boyfriend never understood you. It is definitely never to read awful poetry. This book, in fact, seems to undermine the feminist idea that women are sexual beings by assuming that our sexuality is so amorphous and vague that we might consider just about anything porn! Uh, no thanks. More f*cking and less complaining, please.

Why? WHY? Oh WHY? This book? The thought of it revved me up... I wanted to read feminist porn. After the first story I was a little pukey, the second story... Even worse. I finished every page of this book and pretty much ended up wretching. Porn they say? Really? There was maybe one good story and not because of any sexual content. If this is feminist porn I'm going to have to rethink my porn and feminism.

This might be a collection of porn but the women in these stories (tales? fantasies?) have nipple hairs, saggy boobs, butt pimples, and pubic hair that travels down their thighs. In other words, they're perfectly imperfect. And that makes all the difference.

I liked this book for its variety, its being set in a familiar city, and its feminist content.

The stories are a little long but fun to read aloud to your partner. Hey, it's fearless and feminist!

This is my most cherished book. Bought it from a dyke on a bike who pulled it right out of her saddlebag in front of an AnI Difranco concert. LOLZ
