Three tests. One choice.

Eternity or isolation.

As the daughter of the Greek creation god, immortality is Elysia's birthright. But her mother was a mortal woman who believed Elysia must earn her place at her father's side, not just stand in his shadow. Now, as her twentieth year looms, Elysia must pass the tests her mother designed - or face a curse tailored for her.

Carted off to Corinth, Elysia is exposed to the realities of human life for the first time. She witnesses beauty and tragedy she could not have imagined in her sheltered valley. In the midst of her new surroundings, Elysia meets people who change her destiny: Alexander, a charismatic man from the poorest part of the city, and her grandmother, a wise woman who harbors a secret as old as Greece itself.

A reimagining of the Greek mythos, Eternal begins Elysia's journey to fulfill her destiny and sets the spark to illuminate the Olympians' path. With the threat of her curse hanging over her head, Elysia must discover what it means to be human - and what it means to be eternal.

I really enjoyed this story. The world building, character development, and story were well thought out and well executed.

I found the beginning of the book to be slow and had a hard time getting into it at first, which is the only reason I held back a fifth star.

The book picked up steam after several chapters and was a very entertaining, well-paced read the rest of the way.

The final third of the book is written as well as any book I have read recently. It touches on important, heavy subjects, and has all the beauty of the classic Greek tragedies.

I look forward to the continuation of the series and other future work from this author.

New book.
Cassandra Thomson has successfully taken on the challenge of reimagining Greek myth for a contemporary audience. Not only do her characters appeal to contemporary audiences, they also come across as believable within the Greek myth traditions. Elysia comes across as a naïve and romantic teenager in the beginning but grows into a strong and interesting character through the intriguing plot twists that come along. The story most certainly doesn’t follow an expected path. An imaginative, good read. She is a proven first author and will no doubt write many more excellent books.
