This was entertaining enough and the plot was entertaining. The narration could have been better. It was not smooth. She hit some consonants in some words too hard, for example the T in water.
Also, being a twin myself, the twins being okay (at one point) with being with Ellie at the same time was just weird.
Why call the book Eros when he was referred to as Cupid during the entire book? And, this was not even about him. The main characters were Ellie and the twins.
Ellie is scrambling hard to escape her impoverished beginnings. A softball scholarship is putting her through college but it doesn't help her escape her own mind. So, when she's already struggling, to find out the Olympians have a hit order on her over some vague prophecy, well, it's just crap.
Spoilers ahead. This book had the opportunity to be so much more than it was. Some parts were rushed, some were overdramatized- ridiculously so, plot holes and weird dialogue. *Cupid hit the irredeemable mark. Betrayed his oath against the gods. Betrayed his parents, his brothers, his promise to Ellie, his relationship with his wife, and then, to make it even worse he promised to be a pimp to a mercurial god known to pursue the unwilling to keep a secret. He also killed a goddess (yeah, she'll resurrect) who he just made a promise to about find her a love. And he was upset because Thanatos brought souls to the afterlife? He's pitiful and disgusting. *Ellie, instead of ditching Gabe or kneeing him in the nuts, laughs, allows him to know where she lives, and even brings him in the home-after he's already been pushing her after her initial no. And her 2nd no. And her 3rd. Until she allowed him to follow her into her room, she had the protection of a friend to back him off. The friend allows that behavior, and doesn't do anything about it until he sees Gabe in the act of forcing Ellie. He goes in the same box as Cupid. He could have stopped it at any point before then. He could have walked her in instead of Gabe. Screw him. *Ellie allows everyone else to be her shield. No, she doesn't have powers, but instead of helping with plans or anything constructive, she's playing dress up and the dating game. Will she pick bachelor #1? Or Bachelor #2? *She spends more time fussing about shoes and clothes than on how she's going to continue to stay alive. *If gods can rip each others' powers away, Cupid's home wasn't very secure was it? *Yeah, they've been around for aeons, but what kind of lives are they leading if everyone is trying to backstab everyone else? *They have had prophets and prophecies for millennia. The Greeks had had hundreds of prophecies. Why the panic over a vague reckoning centered around a powerless human? According to their own myths, they've seen the rise and fall of gods and humans for every age of evolution. They, unlike many religions, don't even have an apocalypse, just a big war that heralds the next age. *The twins were more concerned about wooing her than protecting her. *She spent weeks with access to information on how to manipulate gods, to learn strengths and weaknesses. She let them spoil her with gifts instead. A rock concert? A ball game? This is her life on the line. *One moment Aphrodite says the humans are in a panic over her disappearing, a week or 2 later her family didn't even know she was gone. *If she didn't like gods meddling in her life, why would she accept gods dragging people around for her entertainment? *How she didn't connect the idea of the 2 ginger cats to the 2 redheaded gods I don't know. That was a long drag out. *Some of the ways the cats were licking her was a little gross. *To work on a ranch? That's their punishment? Not a realm they control, where they can keep an eye on her and them. I'm sure they don't trust the Lord of the underworld enough to leave them there, but they have the power to control dreams. Trap them in one. She can't be bringing about the reckoning if she's taking a long nap. *Btw, they never exactly nailed down how she was supposed to bring this about. And when offered advice on how to come out looking good, they went the complete opposite direction. If she's a catalyst, because it's not like she can do much as a human, they should have been looking for who was going to actually bring the destruction. Or realized they were bringing it on themselves by all the infighting. Age did NOT bring wisdom. *Why is talking to someone in your head praying? Directed thoughts that can be received is telepathy. Praying is to invoke aid or blessings from a deity.
I don't want to completely rip this to shreds because I can sort of see where the author is going with it. And I like that, finally, even though her character didn't actually grow (she's still not directing her own actions, things just keep happening to her), she's willing to fight for her heart. A spell was reversed, but she's willing to fight for the bond under it all. It's just everything going up to, and around all that. I'll willing to try something else she's written. I don't think I'll be continuing this series though.
I love this author’s mythology stories. I have previous read the Underworld books so it was nice to see what the twins were all about. They are adorable and funny. Not sure what I think about Cupid now. But I guess he’s still a favorite. His mother is awful. I don’t think I like her at all now. I know this seems vague but didn’t want to spoil anything. Ellie is a pretty good character with genuine feelings. She is crazy for the twins but doesn’t want to choose. She loves them both. The twins have such a bond and love for one another that they don’t want to see the other crushed with rejection , yet they are jealous of one another. It’s a wonderful story.
I’m not crazy about the narration. The voices seemed forced at times like she had trouble doing them. I had to speed my audio up so it didn’t sound like over pronouncing. Ellie’s voice was so faint and high pitched that it made her sound immature at times. I think I would’ve liked her character better with a different narrator. I’m not sure why I feel this way because this narrator has done plenty other audiobooks I’ve listened to and I loved them. So it may just be me, it’s not enough to take you out of the story though. I felt like I was there in the moment. The only thing, I wish it would’ve gotten down and dirty with both twins more so than it did lol.
This book is amazing! Where do I even start? First I didn’t realize how much I had forgotten or didn’t know about Greek mythology and Greek gods. Not only is this an amazing story with twists and turns ups and downs - Eva’s writing is so poetic once I started it I could not put it down!!! I fell in love with the characters immediately. Ellie is funny smart and down to earth (literally lol) also she attends my favorite college FSU!! But the best is relearning about these Gods that I had surely forgotten a lot about. Eva brings them to light in a traditional way that’s not only fun and sexy but educational as well! This is a must read book!!! If you love Greek gods you must read this book it will change the way you see them and if you were like me and have forgotten a lot of them it’s also an education with a wonderful storyline !!! I can’t wait to read the second book and the third book in the series as a matter of fact I’m craving it for I want more and you will too!!!!
This book came up as a recommendation on cloud library; and as I love all mythology, Greek, Egyptian, Norse etc; I couldn’t wait to read it. The name on the book though is deceiving.. I thought it was going to be about Eros and Psyche. But it was mostly about Ellie, our main character and heroine I believe, Deimos and Phobos. Eros was given the task to shoot his brothers with arrows of love so they would help protect Ellie from the other god’s wanting to kill her. Good story, but not what I was expecting. I’ll definitely check out her other books . I give Eros 3.5 golden stars it has a good pace and plot.
Holy Greek mythology!!! Eva Pohler is a best selling author for a reason. I find her Greek Mythology books amazing and epic.
I bought this book because the author has an amazing way of telling a story! I COULDNT PUT IT DOWN. Not your average YA mythology novel, the charecters have so much presence. (Artemis) is my new favorite goddess!! I'm floored. It took me less than 3 hours to read, that's how amazing it is. Trust me, you will want to devour this!! I just couldn't put it down. And I am dying to see what happens I'm Book 2. I actually screamed out loud several times.
How does Eva do it? This author is amazing. If you're into heavy romance and explicit scenes, no you won't be interested. If you're into the Greek pantheon and fantastic young adult type stuff, then you will love Eva's newest series (this is book 1, Eros) Cupid's Captive. It is definitely geared for an older teen, but does not have any explicit scenes. It DOES deal with some older concepts that say, a 13 year old may not understand. Use your judgement. I love Eva Pohler's writing and I heartedly recommend her previous series Gatekeeper's Sons. She just keeps getting better with each story.
This book was amazing. It started off a little bit slow but got going really quick. I loved Ellie she was really brought to life in this book. It was great to see a love story between her, Fear, and Panic. The spin that explains the more in-depth role of those two gods was really interesting and added a lot of depth to the characters. Thankfully it didn’t fully end in a cliffhanger. Definitely can’t wait to read the next one. I’m super excited to see how working at the horse farm with no powers works out for the gods.
Eros (Cupid's Catpive #1) was a great read by Eva Pohler. Psyche convinces Cupid to protect Ellie Beaufort, a college softball pitcher, from the gods. They want to kill her because of a prophecy and he agrees to hide her in his castle. His brothers, Phobos and Deimos, discover his secret and he must shoot them with his arrows of love. Ellie is trapped in a magical castle for six weeks with the brthers who want nothing more than to love and protect her, while she is falling for them both. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
I found Eva’s books a while back with the Gatekeepers saga and fell in love with the idea of a modern interpretation of the Greek Gods. Eva has made them come to life in a new way for me which I highly enjoy! Eros is no different telling a story of Cupid, Demios and Phobos. It is a story of love, self confidence with an interesting look at anxiety that I found really engaging. The characters are well written and the story drew me in from the first chapter! Well worth a read!
I’ve known Eva Pohler for several years as she was one of my professors in college, and I gotta say this woman is splendid and amazing. It shows through her writing. Eros is a wonderful addition to greek mythology lovers everywhere. I could not put it down. I even had to get snacks in the middle of the night so I could keep reading. The book keeps you thinking and riding through emotions in the most captivating way. You forget where you are and feel like you’re floating with the gods.
Well, what can I say? This author has been a favorite of mine for some time now. This story has started out as a excellent for me. I could hardly put the story down while reading it. Eva kept me on my toes wondering what would happen to the female mortal. There were times when I thought the story would have a sad ending. Then the story would change directions and bring back my hope. I loved it and will get my hands on the next story!
If you loved the Gatekeepers series, you will love this as well, though it does have many more adult scenes than the previous series (which is YA). But, it was fun to meet the gods and goddesses again as it had been awhile since I read the others. I loved the little hidden gems Eva Pohler left for her fans that tied it back to the other books, makes me want to go back and read the Gatekeepers saga all over again!
Eros is another greek mythology based novel by eva pohler. It revolves around the love triangle between Aphrodite's sons Phobos and deimos. The book consists of lots of sexual tension and fascinating characters in greek god's world. I enjoyed it thoroughly and look forward to the next book. I got an ARC of this copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. However I liked the book and went ahead and bought one copy also.
A wonderful new series from Eva Pohler. Another great story for those that love Greek Mythology. Eros (Cupid) has hidden Ellie, a softball player, from Aphrodite who wants her dead after she hears a prophecy. To protect her, Eros shoots the twins, Phobos and Deimos, with arrows of love. This sets the twins and Ellie on a crazy adventure which lands them banished to earth. It is a wild ride and can't wait for the next book.
This was an incredibly sweet story. It is well written and the characters were beautifully developed. I loved how the Greek Gods are used throughout the story. It is a story that has beautiful and vivid descriptions. These descriptions are easily able to be pictured. The chemistry can be felt throughout the story between Ellie, Phobos, and Deimos. It is definitely worth reading and doesn’t disappoint.
Ellie is part of a prophecy, one that could end olympus. In a gamble to save her, cupid shoots deimos and phobos with arrows. They become her protectors and lovers. But all good things cant last.
I like ellie because shes so real. Eva adresses mental illness and depression, which was pretty awesome. The ending holds a pretty cool twist and i cant wait to see what happens next.
Eva's storytelling draws you into a magical world where the gods and goddesses of myth are alive, well, and even creating mayhem. The characters will captivate you with the personalities that Eva has created for them. If you are a lover of Greek mythology, or just love a good romantic fiction, I highly recommend that you give this a read.
This book is an entry to a series! It’s all about story building. It’s a bit mature in places so beware if you expect it to be like her Gatekeepers Sons series( Love that one too!!) it’s slightly more mature! It took me a couple chapters to really get into it but the adventure started and now I’m looking forward to book 2!!
I mean.. Eva is a gifted author. Ive read her gatekeeper saga, and 10/10. Eros is the same. Im awed at how Eva world builds and reveals her characters and the plot so you can understand everything. I love how she switches some gods up (some are typically villains and others are heroes) and honestly I can say the reader will be in for a great surprise.
This was an interesting story of the Olympian gods and their characters. There is a mortal girl who is the centre of a prophecy, and the focus of the gods machinations. The only thing I didn’t really like is that the story didn’t en,d, it finished on a to be continued..........
I enjoyed this book. The characters were easy to like. I've always enjoyed Greek mythology, so this was right up my alley. I especially like what the author did with Hades. I've always thought he got short shift for a God that is so necessary and important. I would definitely like to read the next book. I don't know where she is going to go with the story.
Eva spins wonderful tales that entrance not just young adults but adults as well. Captivating stories that emerge the readers into a world where the Greek Gods still rule and even roam among the humans. Love every story Eva writes. Eros was no different.
Ellie, the lovable mortal, takes every move that the God’s make in stride. Will love conquer all, can she survive Cupid’s choices or will she break free and be a true heroine. Great read..you’ll love this adventure!!
This book is a rollercoaster. Eva retells the myths and legends in a fun and creative way which is easier to understand than the original. She makes you fall in love with the twins from the instant you meet them!! I never wanted to put this book down!!
I LOVED the story, but even though I knew it was for adults, I didn't quite expect the amount of erotic writing, which Eva does a good job detailing the erotic aspects.
That being said, I loved being able to read more of Eva's Greek parthenon and I can't wait to read the next book.
Book one in Eva's new adult series. Loved it and cannot wait for the next book. This book has it all, suspense, Greek Mythology (which I loved in school), light erotic scenes, and a cliffhanger ending.
I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a lovely read! The characters were very rich and memorable! I really enjoyed the interaction between the Gods of Olympus and the mortal heroine. I'm looking forward to continuing the series!
